‘Grimm’ to End After Season 6 on NBC

Grimm” will come to a close after its upcoming sixth season, NBC confirmed on Monday.

Announcing the premiere date for Season 6 in a press release today, the network stated “the final season” will begin on Jan. 6.

Season 6 will consist of 13 episodes with the finale chapter following the battle fans have been long waiting for: Nick versus Capt. Renard.

With the forces of Black Claw silenced, Nick (David Giuntoli) will face a familiar foe in Capt. Renard (Sasha Roiz), who is now in the seat of power as the mayor elect of Portland. Nick must take a stand to protect his city and those closest to him, especially his child with Adalind (Claire Coffee), and it will take the full force of Nick and his allies to find a way to bring peace. “Hairspray Live!” doesn’t debut until this December, but the first footage is already here.

“Hairspray Live!” features newcomer Maddie Baillio in the star-making role of Tracy Turnblad, plus a star-studded cast including Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande, Kristin Chenoweth, Martin Short, Derek Hough, Dove Cameron, Garrett Clayton, Sean Hayes, Andrea Martin and Rosie O’Donnell. “Hairspray” vet Harvey Fierstein will star as Edna Turnblad, the role that won him a Tony in the stage production.

“Hairspray” follows NBC’s past live musicals “The Sounds of Music,” “Peter Pan” and most recently, “The Wiz.”

The live TV musical has become the hot trend of the moment with other broadcasts following suit. Fox jived into the genre with “Grease,” which was a critical and consumer hit. Fox is also prepping for “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” this fall, though it won’t be live. ABC is also gearing up for a non-live television music of “Dirty Dancing.”

The CW’s “Arrow” has cast Wil Traval from Netflix’s “Jessica Jones” in the role of DC Comics superhero Human Target aka Christopher Chance. Human Target is a master of disguise who assumed the identity of those targeted by assassins and is also a professional bodyguard. Sean Hayes and Rosie O’Donnell have joined the cast of NBC’s “Hairspray Live,” The cast additions were announced by executive producer Craig Zadan Tuesday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.
