The good people at NBC have seen fit to send us some promos for three of their upcoming Fall tv series. The shows, Parenthood, Community and Trauma, each have recognizable and likeable casts, good production value and look to be worth checking out. Here’s a bit about each show.

Parenthood – From Imagine Entertainment’s Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, writer/executive producer Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights), and Emmy Award-winning director Thomas Schlamme (The West Wing) comes this contemporary re-imagining of the blockbuster film Parenthood, focusing on the everyday challenges that modern families face while raising children and starting over.

Universal goes with the Mutants and their exclamation mark

23 June 2009 9:12 AM, PDT | From Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news

Go Mutants! has gone Hollywood.

Universal Pictures has swooped in and purchased the movie rights to Larry Doyle's forthcoming comedy/adventure novel and will have him write the screenplay at the same time he's finishing writing the book. The studio has gone to their go-to guy, Brian Grazer and his Imagine Entertainment company, to develop the picture, making this the 45,291th film that Imagine is doing for Uni.

Doyle's book/screenplay/franchise in the making is set in a high school where the kids are the offspring of mutants, would-be alien invaders and monster men/women. Two or three generations down the line, the teens of the creatures have now become just as big douchebags as the human kids from High School Musical. Remember the days when a monster would just be thinking about how to kill the humans and not about how they could win the school's pep rally?

‘Go Mutants!’ Finds A Home At Universal

23 June 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | From MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news

Novelist Larry Doyle must be flying pretty high right now. After all, the guy hasn’t even finished his current work-in-progress, “Go Mutants!” and it’s already been picked up for a silver screen treatment. He’ll have to do double-duty now, penning out a script as he completes the book. I think he’ll somehow find a way to manage.

The story is described by Variety as a “teen comedy/adventure set in a high school.” Expect both film and book to draw heavily from classic Hollywood sci-fi; the idea behind “Go Mutants!” is that “all the tropes from classic 1950s alien invasion movies came true.” Things are taken a step further than that even: years after the initial invasions, human and alien societies have commingled to the point that their children go to school together.

Universal snatched up the rights to “Go Mutants!” with Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment set to produce.

‘Bride of Frankenstein’ Remake Reawakened

18 June 2009 4:04 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

A remake of the classic 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein has been talked about for a long while now and it looks like new life has been breathed into the project by Universal and Imagine Entertainment. Neil Burger, writer and director of The Illusionist, is reportedly in talks to direct the Bride of Frankenstein remake. If it goes through, he’ll also pen the script with writing partner Dirk Wittenborn, with Brian Grazer (Frost/Nixon, A Beautiful Mind) and Sean Daniel (The Mummy) set to produce.

The original Bride of Frankenstein was a straight sequel to 1931’s Frankenstein in which a mate is created for the monster by Dr. Frankenstein, only to unexpectedly find that she rejects him. As stated, a remake of the movie has been talked about for a long time now: American Splendor writers Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini were once attached to pen the screenplay for

Bride Of Frankenstein Gets A Burger Director

17 June 2009 11:39 PM, PDT | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

I felt bad for The Illusionist when it came out. You can have two movies about the same subject come out at the same time, and usually, they both stand a decent chance to make some okay dough independently. Movies about marriage, movies with big explosions, movies about a sport. But when writer/director Neil Burger.s The Illusionist was released right around the same time as The Prestige, it was obvious that The Illusionist would forever live in The Prestige.s shadow. People can only handle so much magic. Neil Burger has another chance to impress an audience though, as he is currently in talks to zap some life into the Bride of Frankenstein franchise. According to the Risky Business Blog, Burger is in talks to direct the reboot, as well as write with his writing partner Dirk Wittenborn. Ron Howard.s homeboys over at Imagine, Brian Grazer and

Danger - 'Bride of Frankenstein' Remake is imminent!

17 June 2009 4:12 PM, PDT | From Pretty/Scary | See recent pretty-scary news

Bride of Frankenstein will be the latest horror remake to emerge from Universal and Imagine! The classic iconic image of a female monster (the first one in film?) is going to be reimagined for the 21st century by Neil Burger (The Illusionist), who will write and direct. Bride of Frankenstein has only been remade one other time, in 1985 starring Sting and Jennifer Beals. Who will play the Bride this time around?

The original 1935 movie was directed by James Whale and starred Boris Karloff as the monster and Elsa Lanchester as the titular bride...

It was a sequel to 1931's Frankenstein, also by Whale. The monster, played by Karloff, is on the run from an angry mob and persuades Dr. Frankenstein to create a female companion for him. The doctor is successful, but the bride rejects the monster, and her own unnatural existence, at the end of the movie.

Universal to Resurrect the 'Bride of Frankenstein'

17 June 2009 12:30 PM, PDT | From CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news

This story caught my eye this morning, and for some unfathomable reason I set it aside to prioritize other material. Which is odd, because the resurrection of Bride of Frankenstein may be the best news so far this week, in my opinion. And while I'm typically down on remakes — mostly because they're usually not very good and have become a lazy crutch in Hollywood — I'm not opposed to the occasional one, especially if the material is interesting and it's well executed (i.e. The Thomas Crown Affair).

Here are the details: Universal Pictures hopes to launch a new take on Bride of Frankenstein with filmmaker Neil Burger at the reins. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Burger may direct and co-write the remake. The original 1935 horror film featured Elsa Lanchester (pictured to your left) in the title role.

Sting and Jennifer Beals co-starred in a largely forgettable remake in 1985 called The Bride,

‘Bride of Frankenstein’ Next on Universal’s Remake List

17 June 2009 7:55 AM, PDT | From FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news

You'd think that Universal was either (a) in some financial trouble that required safe brand decisions or (b) completely out of good ideas, but I have a feeling that they just see a market for bringing back all of their iconic monsters from back in the day, just because. The latest notch on their belt will come later this year when Joe Johnston's The Wolf Man, starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins, morphs into theaters on November 6th. By then, it is likely that they will already be in active production on another remake, a retelling of James Whale's 1935 classic Bride of Frankenstein. THR's Risky Biz Blog is reporting today that Universal and Brian Grazer's Imagine Entertainment are developing the remake and are in talks with The Illusionist director Neil Burger.
