In From the Cold: Shane Weisfeld talks about Freezer

13 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Trevor Hogg chats with Shane Weisfeld about The Karate Kid, perseverance, and developing a cool idea into a movie…

“I was born in 1974 so I was able to be influenced by the birth of the blockbuster, and then the birth of renting movies,” states Shane Weisfeld who watched the classics of the 1970s on VHS tapes.  “I first saw The Exorcist [1973] when I was in Grade 10 and that had a strong, lasting impression on me, and to this day remains my favourite film. In my last year of high school I did a project on The Karate Kid [1984], where I first learned about the script-to-screen process and the collaboration involved in making a film. The screenwriter of The Karate Kid [Robert Mark Kamen] went on to write films like Lethal Weapon 3 [1992], The Transporter [2002], Taken [2008] and Colombiana [2011]; he is a great writer, and longevity is a precious thing in this crazy business, as »

The Damned Review

22 July 2014 10:15 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Is it just me, or does horror material come in waves? Just as I was complaining how witches have lost their popularity status in modern day horror, during my Witching & Bitching review none the less, The Damned comes along with a sinister “bruja” cursing poor victims and raising Hell. Originally titled Gallows Hill – a more interesting headline when compared to The Damned‘s nondescript nature – director Víctor García attempts to redefine typical haunted house stories with a dash of occultism, but something feels constantly amiss. Despite a menacing child, morphing skin, and some seriously tingling chills, García’s film just isn’t as damning as we’d hope.

Peter Facinelli plays David Reynolds, an overprotective husband and father who only wants to retrieve his vacationing daughter (Nathalia Ramos) before his wedding day. Driving down a twisty, beaten road, David’s family – along with a journalist Aunt and her cameraman – find »

Nurse Jackie Season 5 Blu-Ray Review

Nurse Jackie Season 5 Blu-Ray Review

The fifth season of Nurse Jackie is a somewhat unique spin in the world of TV series, because the premise of the show is turned upside-down. While Edie Falco has spent four seasons winning critical acclaim as titular, drug-addicted nurse who has to find a way to make all the facets of her life work, the writers correctly determined that it was time that the gimmick made some new movies. Thus, the fifth season has Jackie sober, and quickly approaching the one-year anniversary of her sobriety.

With her marriage falling apart, her job resting on a very precarious perch, and her ability to effectively don a parental role, Jackie has an entirely new set of problems to manage, and coping isn’t necessarily something she’s great at… depending on how you mean that.

Peter Facinelli Unleashes 'The Damned' in Boring Horror Trailer

2 July 2014 9:44 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Just as the refreshing supernatural horror thriller Deliver Us from Evil hits theaters today before the big holiday weekend, a trailer for a much more generic and seemingly boring film in the same genre has arrive. If The Damned wasn't generic enough of a title for you, the trailer does a much better job of delivering the same kind of story and scares we've seen time and time again. At first it seems like this might be different with the set-up coming from a mudslide accident that leaves a family (led by Peter Facinelli) stranded in Colombia, but then it heads into familiar territory with a creepy, dirty, wet girl scaring them, things moving by themselves, and all that cliche jazz. Plus, it's just edited poorly with long-winded text bumpers. Watch? Here's the first trailer for Victor Garcia's The Damned from IFC Films: The Damned is directed by »

‘Twilight’ Actor Peter Facinelli Working on Nathan Hale Movie

Peter Facinelli’s A7SLE Films has acquired movie rights to M. William Phelps’ “Nathan Hale: The Life and Death of America’s First Spy.”

Hale was executed at the age of 21 in 1776 by the British after being discovered as a spy during the Revolutionary War. His last words were “I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country” before he was hanged.

The book was originally in development at Warner Bros. in 2007 and was acquired by Facinelli when the deal lapsed.

“I am excited to bring the story of Nathan Hale to life, a man who sacrificed everything for what he believed in,” Facinelli said.

Facinelli, who played Carlisle Cullen in the “Twilight” films, recently finished production through his A7SLE Films on “The Last Word” and will soon begin production on NBC’s midseason drama “Odyssey.”

A7SLE’s Rob DeFranco negotiated the deal with Matthew Valentinas for Phelps. »

Robert Pattinson opened up about shaving his head for his most recent post-Twilight film The Rover, with director David Michôd calling the haircut “horrific.”

Robert Pattinson's New Haircut In 'The Rover'

Pattinson became an overnight sensation by playing Edward Cullen in the popular Twilight films, but has been slowly breaking out of his teenage heartthrob image with grittier roles – Water for Elephants (2011), Cosmopolis (2012). The Rover, from writer/director David Michôd, marks Pattinson’s first feature film release since the release of the last Twilight film, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 in 2012, and Pattinson appears happy to leave his Edward Cullen look behind.

Throughout the filming of Twilight, Pattinson kept his hair relatively long due to filming and shocked fans when he suddenly shaved his head for The Rover. Pattinson said he loved the look, telling E! News, “It’s like the skin on the back of your neck, »

‘The Rover’ Premiere: Producer Praises Robert Pattinson as ‘Consummate Actor’

After a starry premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Robert Pattinson, Guy Pearce and director David Michod brought “The Rover” to The Regency Bruin Thursday.

Michod told Variety that he hadn’t been familiar with Pattinson’s previous work. “Rob just came in and did a beautiful audition for me that was both vulnerable and completely alive,” he said.

“This proved that seeing him work with Guy Pearce and Scoot McNairy, we realize he’s a consummate actor,” added producer David Linde. “He’s in the ‘Twilight’ movies and people don’t think of him in this way, but as you see in this movie he’s the real deal.”

For Pattinson, he said his goal is to work with good, ambitious directors. “These roles just don’t come up that often,” he said. “A script like this is so rare, I mean, it’s in the top five scripts I’ve ever read. »

PopWatch Confessional: My Ya film heartthrobs are the dads

It began with The Twilight Saga and was officially driven home by this weekend’s The Fault in Our Stars: I have hit the age where the hottest guys in Ya movies are the dads.

Sure, I can recognize the puppy-dog cuteness of Ansel Elgort, the male-model broodingness of Robert Pattinson, and the six-packiness of Taylor Lautner. But for my money, Sam Trammell and Billy Burke (cop mustache and all) as Michael Lancaster and Charlie Swan, respectively, have them all beat. It probably helps that I was introduced to Trammell and Burke outside their patriarchal roles — Trammell in True Blood »

Demonic Scribe Heads into The Devil's Rooming House

22 May 2014 11:48 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The James Wan-produced supernatural horror flick Demonic is headed our way later this year, which was co-written by a man named Max La Bella. Today we've learned that La Bella has more sinister thrills and chills up his sleeve, as he next finds himself in The Devil's Rooming House. Read on!

Deadline reports that A7SLE Films has hired La Bella to script the true story adaptation about early 20th century murderess Amy Archer-Gilligan, an unassuming nursing home proprietress who had a curiously high number of fatalities occur in her house between 1907 and 1917.

The majority of the deaths were found later to be caused by poisoning, and Archer-Gilligan was found guilty of multiple counts of murder.

A7SLE Films, the production shingle co-founded by Twilight star Peter Facinelli, snapped up rights to writer M. William Phelps’ chronicle of the Archer-Gilligan saga last year.
