Peter Facinelli Reveals the Reason He's Leaving Nurse Jackie

11 April 2014 12:27 PM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Aww, Dr. Fitch "Coop" Cooper. We barely knew ye! Ok, so we actually knew you quite well, as Peter Facinelli's smug and hilarious (and boob grabbing!) alter ego on Nurse Jackie has been around for six seasons strong. But Facinelli has decided to leave the series, and the fans are already getting a bit misty-eyed as Nurse Jackie debuts its seventh season Sunday on Showtime. So why did he decide to go? "You know I've done it for six years," Facinelli told E! News at the launch of Zooey Deschanel's new capsule collection for Tommy Hilfiger. "They've become like a family to me, Edie [Falco], Merritt [Weaver]. They are all such a great team of actors to work with. And I love »

Ten years ago today, Unfiltered debuted on Air America Radio stations. While the big draw was Chuck D and comedian Lizz Winstead, the lasting effect of Unfiltered (which barely lasted a year) was that it introduced Rachel Maddow to a national audience. However, for most people today is April Fools Day, so be a little cynical when you check the news.

In the upcoming Walking Dead season, Alanna Masterson (Tara), Christian Serratos (Rosita) and Andrew J. West (Gareth) have been promoted to series regulars. I hope that means they’ve got plans for Tara.

All that pretty and he has to turn out to be evil. Sigh.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast members Joel McKinnon Miller and Dirk Blocker (who pay Hitchcock and Scully) have been promoted to series regulars.

'Nurse Jackie' renewed for Season 7, Peter Facinelli no longer series regular

31 March 2014 3:30 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"Nurse Jackie" Season 6 hasn't even premiered yet, and already Showtime has announced that it's renewed for a Season 7. The season will begin filming in New York later in 2014.

In Season 6, Jackie (Edie Falco) will cope with her addiction while also dealing with her relationships with Frank, her ex Kevin and her daughter Grace. As the synopsis for the season reads, "Something's gotta give."

Meanwhile, Peter Facinelli will not be returning to "Nurse Jackie" as a series regular. "In the twilight of season six, Peter asked to be released from his contract to pursue new creative challenges. Nothing will eclipse the incredible contribution he made to the success of 'Nurse Jackie' since the dawn of the show," showrunner Clyde Phillips tells E! Online in a statement, emphasizing the actor's role in the "Twilight" movie series. Facinelli will still appear in some capacity in Season 7.

Nurse Jackie Renewed for 7th Season

31 March 2014 11:30 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Showtime has renewed Nurse Jackie for a seventh season, the network announced today. Jackie's sixth season starts April 13, so this is a pretty early renewal by Showtime standards. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peter Facinelli will not be a regular on season seven, which is probably a good thing, since his character, Dr. Cooper, is the worst, both in the sense that all the characters dislike him and also the fact that his presence does not help the story arc of the show. There's a lot to love about Nurse Jackie, namely Edie Falco Jackie, Merritt Wever's fantastic Zoey, and Adam Ferrara as Jackie's down-to-earth cop boyfriend. But then the show goes to loopy town with Anna Deavere Smith's Dr. Akalitus and Facinelli's Coop, and it's like a humanely explored story about a recovering addict is suddenly a weird slapstick comedy about morons. »

Showtime is keeping Nurse Jackie on duty. Clyde Phillips will return as showrunner after inking a new two-year overall deal with studio Lionsgate TV. Co-star Peter Facinelli, however, will not be back as a series regular.
