'The Night Shift,' 'The Blacklist' & 'Undateable' lead NBC mid-season schedule

12 December 2014 12:25 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

NBC's semi-successful summer lineup has now become a core part of its winter/spring schedule, with "The Night Shift" and "Undateable" joining a crowded mid-season roster that will include "Allegiance," "The Slap," "A.D.," the return of "The Blacklist," and more. Earlier this month, NBC announced the first part of its mid-season plan with the compressed final season of "Parks and Recreation,"(*) which will be concluding before half of NBC's other mid-season shows even get to premiere. This is the same "drama-heavy mid-season schedule" that was the reason NBC opted to sell Tina Fey's "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" to Netflix, rather than try to squeeze it in here. Not counting "Parks" (which, again, NBC considers old business being dealt with as quickly as possible), the network will bring eight shows off the bench in February, March and April, and all but two ("Undateable" and the new "One Big Happy") are dramatic. »

Scream Factory Heads Into Supernova This January!;Full Specs

While this one might seem odd to some of you fright fanatics, I for one, am completely excited to see Scream Factory’s upcoming Bluray of 2000’s Supernova. The James Spader-led sic-fi/horror film was notorious for it’s reshoots/editing, and it’s a mystery whether Walter Hill or Jack Sholder really directed the film (after forced reshoots, Hill disowned the film and used the pseudonym “Thomas Lee”), but with all of that being said, it’s always been quite the entertaining genre film, and the gang at Sf are giving the brand new Bluray to fans on January 13th. No word on whether the PG-13 or the R-rated version will be on the disc, but as soon as we know, you will!

Review: The Damned

13 November 2014 11:54 AM, PST | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

Victor García has made a name for himself with being the guy who takes on straight-to-dvd sequels for popular films, having directed Return To House On Haunted Hill, Mirrors 2, and the much maligned Hellraiser: Revelations. After going through those sequels, it’s no wonder that García would jump at the chance to direct something original with The Damned, a possession tale that while not being a sequel or re-imagining of something, still gives off that been there, done that vibe, but provides a decent amount of twists and turns while doing so.

Focusing on Peter Facinelli (Nurse Jackie, Can’T Hardly Wait) and Sophia Myles(Underworld)’ characters of David and Lauren, a couple a week away from getting married, and their trip to Columbia to pick up his rebellious daughter for the wedding, The Damned begins it’s film journey with a very familiar setup of a father not »

Take Me To The Pilots '14: NBC's 'Odyssey'

6 September 2014 10:15 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

[In case you've Forgotten, and as I will continue to mention each and every one of these posts that I do: This is *not* a review. Pilots change. Sometimes a lot. Often for the better. Sometimes for the worse. But they change. Actual reviews will be coming in September and perhaps October (and maybe midseason in some cases). This is, however, a brief gut reaction to not-for-air pilots. I know some people will be all "These are reviews." If you've read me, you've read my reviews and you know this isn't what they look like.] Show: "Odyssey" (NBC - Midseason) The Pitch: "It's 'Traffic' meets 'Homeland' meets whatever's on the front page of the newspaper today." Quick Response: First off, I wanna credit the ambition of Adam Armus & Nora Kay Foster's script and Peter Horton's directing/producing in this ensemble political thriller, which uses 51 minutes to introduce three interlocking stories and well over a dozen characters and an assortment of ripped-from-the-headlines plotlines that run the gamut from "familiar because you've seen them in movies or TV or in the news" to "nonsensical blather that presumably will make sense down the road." "Odyssey" is a project that aims high and even though it's 100 percent destined for failure, I would Always rather watch a flawed pilot with big dreams than a generic procedural. But I'm not sure a show like "Odyssey" has ever succeeded on network TV and nothing in Horton's admirable resume, nor the »
