A cultural counter force to Washington isolationism, he has lined up a wide array of screenings, panels and tributes for the third annual Asian World Film Festival. The eight-day event kicks off Oct. 25 in Culver City and concludes Nov. 2, sponsored in part by Variety.
This year’s installment is the broadest yet in scope. Movies range from “Dearest Sister,” the first film from Laos submitted for a foreign-language Oscar, and
“Little Gandhi,” Syria’s first entry in that category, to pioneering Hollywood drama “Joy Luck Club,” part of a beefed-up Asian-American focus.
Opening-night movie “Ayla: The Daughter of War” sets the tone. Directed by Can Ulkay, it centers on an orphan and a Turkish soldier during the Korean War and is Turkey’s official foreign-language submission in the Academy Awards.
In the week since the Weinstein exposés were published in the New York Times and New Yorker, more accounts of the producer's actions have emerged, including one story by model Angie Everhart.
As Everhart told TMZ, she woke up aboard a yacht outside a European film festival to find Weinstein masturbating in front of her.
When Winslet took home the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2009, for her performance in The Reader, she did not mention Weinstein, whose company financed and distributed the drama.
Speaking with the Los Angeles Times, Winslet said the omission was "absolutely deliberate."
"I remember being told, 'Make sure you thank Harvey if you win.' And I remember turning around and saying, 'No I won't. No I won't,'" she recalled. "And it was nothing to do with not being grateful. If people aren't well-behaved, why would I thank him?"

In an interview with the Sunday Times published on Sunday, Anthony alleges that the movie mogul attacked her in her home in London in the 1980s, saying that she reported the rape allegations to police last week.
The 54-year-old actress -- who currently stars as Marnie Nightingale on the British soap opera Hollyoaks -- described the alleged attack as "pathetic and revolting" and said she spent years trying to forget it.
Anthony said she first met Weinstein in 1982 while starring in the sci-fi fantasy Krull. The two became friends, and one night she came to a house he rented in London. Anthony claimed, "The next thing I knew he was half undressed and he grabbed me."
"It was the last thing I expected and I fled. I blamed it on myself because I was tired, a bit drunk
The 62-year-old producer, who spent much of his career in his brother's shadow, despite them both owning about an equal amount of The Weinstein Company, opened up about the allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against Harvey, how much he knew about what was going on and what the future holds in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, published on Saturday.
Here are the eight biggest revelations from Weinstein's interview:
1. Bob said he knew about Harvey's alleged "cheating."
"I actually was quite aware that Harvey was philandering with every woman he could meet. I was sick and disgusted by his actions. But that's the extent of what [I knew]," Bob claimed. "I said, “Harvey, you're just cheating. Why do you constantly cheat?” I could see it. But I wasn't in the room with him."
"I thought he was literally just going out there cheating in a pervasive way. It wasn't like he
“In light of the Harvey Weinstein allegations, I feel the need to share a story of my own personal experience where a man in a position of power over me, used that said power to try and take advantage of me,” the 21-year-old actress began her Tumblr post.
Reinhart went on to detail her alleged encounter of sexual harassment from an older co-worker on a project.

On Friday, Green’s mother, French actress Marlene Jobert, told Europe 1 radio that her daughter was also “sexually harassed” by the movie mogul for two years.
“My daughter Eva was the victim of this horrible man …” the 76-year old star said, adding she was speaking on her daughter’s behalf.

Angie Everhart and Minka Kelly are the latest women in Hollywood speaking out against Harvey Weinstein.
Everhart called into the Frosty, Heidi and Frank radio show on Friday morning, where she accused Weinstein of inappropriate behavior while she was on a private boat at the Venice Film Festival years ago.
"I had just arrived and I was sleeping. I was in my bed. I wake up, and Harvey is standing above my bed," she alleged. "Now, that alone is frightening." Everhart claimed that Weinstein had taken his pants off and was masturbating, and that he was also blocking the door.
"I can't get out," she said. "And then he says, 'You're a really nice girl. You shouldn't tell anybody about this.'"

Easily the highest quality film in this double feature from the crypt, Demon Knight is one of the definitive horror movies of the Nineties. It has a killer soundtrack, a hip, talented cast, and some tremendous special makeup and monster effects.
I’m happy to report that Demon Knight holds up extremely well. It had been a very long time since my last viewing, so I was a little bit concerned. But, honestly, I may have even enjoyed the movie more this time around. I remember it being a wild,
There are very few horror/comedies as entertaining as 1995’s Demon Knight. The first of three Tales From the Crypt films (2002’s Ritual was so bad that very few fans even acknowledge it), the Ernest Dickerson-helmed film was an instant hit with horror fans, and rightfully so, it’s kind of perfect.
Kino Lorber is reviving another cult classic on Tuesday too—The Oblong Box—which is based on the Edgar Allan Poe tale and co-stars two cinematic legends, Vincent Price and Christopher Lee. For those of you Back to the Future fans out there (and really, who isn’t?), Universal is giving the series a few special releases in time for the film’s 30th anniversary and,
