One of his first acting jobs was in the daytime drama "Days of Our Lives" (1965) playing "Glenn Gallagher" (1986-1987), but it was his series role as "Detective Chris Lorenzo" in "Silk Stalkings" (1991) that finally put the name to the face.
He and his estranged wife Josie Bissett appeared together on "Melrose Place" (1992). In 1993, he played the guest character of "Sam" on the show for a couple of episodes. In 1996, he returned to the fold but with a major storyline in the regular role of "Kyle McBride".
Estes is a graduate of the University of Southern California where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
Starred in a season three episode of "Gilmore Girls" (2000), which was the backdoor pilot for a California-set spin-off titled "Windward Circle", that was to have starred Milo Ventimiglia, Sherilyn Fenn and Estes. The network dropped the project citing cost issues due to filming on location in Venice, California.
