Omar Epps Takes Lead In British/German Thriller Based On Award-Winning French Novel

11 December 2013 7:30 AM, PST | ShadowAndAct | See recent ShadowAndAct news »

A starring role for Omar Epps in an indie thriller titled One Small Mistake, to be directed by British filmmaker Alexander Harvey, from a script by Guy Bennett, adapted from French author Jean Francois Coatmeur’s novel La Bavure (The Smear).  The novel follows the familiar tale of a suspect in a double murder who has to go on the run to prove his innocence. Based on the English translation of the French synopsis (there is no English language version of the novel it seems), the man finds out that the crime was the act of not an isolated individual killer, but of a powerful society of the occult, who also want him dead. The film adaptation will be produced by German »

27 November 2013 7:48 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Odd List Ryan Lambie Simon Brew 28 Nov 2013 - 06:04

Our series of lists devoted to underappreciated films brings us to the year 2000, and another 25 overlooked gems...

The new millennium brought with it an eclectic range of hit films. Hong Kong action director John Woo brought us Mission: Impossible II, the most profitable film of the year at the box office. Ridley Scott enjoyed one of the biggest critical and financial successes of his career with Gladiator, while Robert Zemeckis created a memorable drama with Tom Hanks and a ball named Wilson in Cast Away.

From a comic book movie standpoint, 2000 was also a key year. X-Men not only established a successful film franchise which is still going, with X-Men: Days Of Future Past out next year, but also headed up a wave of big-budget Marvel adaptations which shows no sign of slowing down.

As ever, we've travelled far outside the »

As previously reported, Revenge, Once Upon a Time, Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal are airing split seasons, and thus will have prolonged breaks after airing their winter finales on Dec. 12 and 15. (Nashville, however, will maintain a presence »

It’s not often that you run across aspiring genre directors who are still in their teens so when we discovered a brand new Kickstarter campaign for Carver, an upcoming indie slasher from the filmmaking team of Ron Diprimio and his 13-year-old daughter Emily Diprimio, we immediately took notice.

In the campaign, the Diprimios’ describe Carver as, “a throwback 80’s style slasher that follows a group of teenagers who are haunted by a despicable act they committed on Halloween when they were younger. »

Resurrection Brings Back Kathleen Monroe As A Pastor’s Feisty Ex

20 August 2013 9:08 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

And now we get to one of most – and least – favorite type of news story, which involves casting details for a series that has not yet aired! How very exciting it is to try and guess what kind have impact Kathleen Munroe will have on Resurrection, a show I know next to nothing about because not a single second of footage has passed through my optic nerve. It’s safe to say the majority of what I will be saying for the next 200 plus words is all bull shit. But you see, half the fun is just talking randomly about how I have no idea how Munroe will be a benefit to ABC’s Resurrection.

According to TVLine, Munroe will have a major recurring role in the midseason drama, which is set to premiere Sunday, March 9. The show will take great pains to answer the question “What happens when the »

ABC Announces Fan-Friendly Spring Series Runs for Once Upon a Time and Resurrection

12 August 2013 5:00 AM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

Few things are more disheartening and frustrating to fans of series as when their scheduling is wonky. You know, three weeks on, two weeks off. Shows lose momentum and the less committed fans lose interest and everyone gets scared that the show will get canceled.

Happily, ABC has announced its plans to run at least some of its shows’ seasons with few to no interruptions, before and after the winter break, and that’s good news (and slightly bad news) for us.

It affects Once Upon a Time and new series Resurrection. Once Upon a Time in Wonderland is of course not affected since it is, at least currently, considered to be a limited, 13-episode series.

The bad news part of the decision is that we’ll be waiting a bit before we’ll see the return and the premiere. Both shows will air on Sunday, March 9, with the midseason »

Kate Middleton has gone into labor, so all of England (and, let's be honest, the rest of us) waits on pins and needles for the little bundle of joy to arrive. The heir to the British throne's birthday could be July 22, but it would not be unusual if she's in labor a whole day first, so it might be July 23.

Here are some of the people the little tyke will share a birthday with:

July 22

Keegan Allen, Willem Dafoe, Bob Dole, Danny Glover, Selenz Gomez, Don Henley, Edward Hopper (American artist), Rose Kennedy, John Leguizamo, Philip I (King of Spain), Oscar de la Renta, David Spade, Alex Trebek, Rufus Wainwright

Adding Another Show to Our 2013-14 Calendar – ABC’s Resurrection

29 May 2013 1:00 PM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

When ABC gave its “Upfront” presentation and announced its 2013-14 schedule two weeks ago, I told you about the return of Once Upon a Time and The Neighbors, and about upcoming series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

At the time I didn’t include new series Resurrection because, frankly, the trailer seemed a little too Touched By an Angel to be something we’d cover. Now that I’ve screened the pilot, I may have been premature. May have been. As with Touch and Awake and A Gifted Man before it, I’ve decided to give this one the benefit of the doubt. I’m hoping it will be more like Awake than like the other two; we’ll see. I really like the pilot, though, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Here’s the synopsis and the trailer. »

Here's What Your ABC Fall (Black) Primetime Lineup Looks Like...

21 May 2013 3:22 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Not much new programming from ABC to look forward to next season, as far as shows with black actors in lead/starring roles are concerned.  Of course both Shonda Rhimes series - Grey's Anatomy and Scandal - are returning. But both are already in ABC's arsenal.  Ashley Madekwe and Toks Olagundoye will return to their respective supporting roles in Revenge and The Neighbors, respectively. There's also Robert Wisdom in Nashville. One new series of note is Resurrection, which stars Omar Epps in the the top role, in the serial adaptation of author Jason Mott's debut novel, The Returned. Although it's a mid-season replacement, so don't expect to see it until sometime in early 2014.  There are a couple of new shows with black actors in them, although not necessarily front-and-center.  Isiah Whitlock Jr. is a member of the ensemble cast of Lucky 7, which revolves around seven employees of a service. »

ABC 2013-2014 Schedule Full Preview With Trailers

16 May 2013 12:41 PM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

At ABC‘s upfront, there were a few things that the network wanted to make sure you knew. 1) They are really impressed with the idea that people are going to watch Rebel Wilson do just about anything, and 2) There isn’t anything they’re happier about than bringing you more episodes of television created by Shonda Rhimes.

On these notes, the network would love for you to know that more Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal are coming your way. These, ABC would like to impress upon you (as advertisers) are really good shows. Because… hellllooo… so many people watch them that we’re bringing them back. But wait, don’t think that you’re as excited as you can get yet, because if those are your favorite shows, then we have a new one for you to fall in love with, Betrayal.

Also on the agenda, and actually looking like they might be interesting, »

ABC's Fall Schedule Announcement: A snap judgment

Maybe Olivia Pope needs to do some damage control for ABC, which brought back only two of the 10 shows it premiered last season. At the network’s upfront presentation on Tuesday, Kerry Washington appeared in a pre-taped clip as her character from Scandal, and offered advice to Anne Sweeney, the president of Disney/ABC Television Group, alongside Jimmy Kimmel. Discussing the problem of Dancing With the Stars, which took a ratings dip this season, Kimmel quipped, “For one thing, they’re not really stars.” There aren’t a ton of stars in ABC’s new lineup, either — but there are »
