Shall we gather at the river?

18 hours ago | blogs.suntimes.com/ebert | See recent Roger Ebert's Blog news »

The first time I saw him, he was striding toward me out of the burning Georgia sun, as helicopters landed behind him. His face was tanned a deep brown. He was wearing a combat helmet, an ammo belt, carrying a rifle, had a canteen on his hip, stood six feet four inches. He stuck out his hand and said, "John Wayne." That was not necessary.

Wayne died on June 11, 1979. Stomach cancer. "The Big C," he called it. He had lived for quite a while on one lung, and then the Big C came back. He was near death and he knew it when he walked out on stage at the 1979 Academy Awards to present Best Picture to "The Deer Hunter," a film he wouldn't have made. He looked frail, but he planted himself there and sounded like John Wayne.

John Wayne. When I was a kid, we said it as one word: Johnwayne. »

Gcb: Cancelled; No Season Two for ABC Show

12 May 2012 10:25 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Did Carlene finally take down Amanda? We'll never know. ABC has cancelled Gcb after one short season of 10 episodes. There won't be a "second coming" or a second season for this show.

Based on the novel Good Christian Bitches, Gcb follows a former high school mean girl (Leslie Bibb), now a single mom and widow, who returns home to Texas and tries to make amends with the women that she used to torment. The show's ensemble cast also includes Lauran Irion, Colton Shires, Annie Potts, Kristin Chenoweth, David James Elliott, Jennifer Aspen, Brad Beyer, Miriam Shor, Mark Deklin, and Marisol Nichols.

This dramedy debuted to a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demograpic with 7.56 million viewers. That wasn't a great showing but it was far better than what ABC had been getting with Pan Am earlier in the season.

Robert De Niro discusses the proposed Midnight Run sequel

22 April 2012 11:23 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

With a fifth Midnight Run film seemingly back on the radar, Robert De Niro has been discussing the possibility of a further sequel...

Last month, it was reported that a long rumoured Midnight Run sequel was moving ahead, and that Brett Ratner was attached to direct. Seemingly this sequel will gloss over the three made for TV sequels Another Midnight Run, Midnight Runaround and Midnight Run For Your Life.

Whilst the addition of Mr Ratner to a wholly unnecessary sequel was enough to induce high levels of scorn, one area of promise was the fact that the initial pass at the script was written by Role Models scribe Tim Dowling. We like Role Models a lot.

Sadly though his script has been passed onto G.I. Joe screenwriters David Elliot and Paul Lovett to do further work, and it’s their draft that has been passed to Robert De Niro. »

ABC Studios Rush To Release Full Season DVDs – The River, Missing, Gcb, Scandal

11 April 2012 8:43 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

ABC, as a very general entity, is apparently having good luck releasing TV shows on DVD as quickly as they can, because they certainly aren’t shying away from the idea. It’s been a trend, and if we expand and look at ABC Family shows as well, the notion of getting physical copies into the hands of fans as soon as possible certainly seems to work out. Well, the post-Fall schedule is going to come your way in a hurry as well, and I have to say that I like the idea. Waiting around on these shows could be a mistake, and it’s actually a pretty cool idea to have an option when you’re trying to sell your new favorite show on the uninitiated.

We don’t really have the scoop on the bonus offerings yet, always a question mark when something hits shelves so fast, but »

Brett Ratner in Talks to Direct 'Midnight Run' Sequel

22 March 2012 10:46 AM, PDT | Fandango | See recent Fandango news »

It has been two years since Universal first planned a sequel to 1988 action comedy Midnight Run. At the time, both Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin were interested in reprising their roles. Now the studio has hired G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra writers David Elliott and Paul Lovett to rewrite the script. Additionally, the studio is negotiating with Brett Ratner to direct.   Martin Brest directed the original Midnight Run, about a bounty hunter Jack Walsh (De Niro) who is sent to track down bail-jumping, former Mafia accountant Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas (Grodin). In order to collect his $100,000 fee, Jack has to take The Duke from New York to Los Angeles, all while evading the Mafia, a rival bounty hunter and the FBI.   The sequel will focus on The Duke's son,...

Is Brett Ratner In For A ‘Midnight Run’?

22 March 2012 5:45 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

For myself, Martin Brest’s Midnight Run is the greatest buddy action-comedy ever made. The pairing of Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin was perfect for the 1988 film, that saw DeNiro’s grumpy bounty hunter Jack Walsh, on the hunt for Grodin’s ‘The Duke’, just so he can ‘get out of the miserable fucking business forever‘. Along with a superb quotable script from George Gallo and a supporting cast that included Joe Pantoliano, Dennis Farina, Phillip Baker Hall, John Ashton and Yaphett Kotto, Midnight Run really is an absolute classic.

Last year in an interview, De Niro hinted that a sequel was in the works which will see Walsh finally back on the big-screen for another Midnight Run. Now word is Rush Hour director Brett Ratner is being tapped by Universal, to helm the sequel that has a script currently being written by David Elliot and Paul Lovett. De »

Brett Ratner in Talks for Midnight Run Sequel

22 March 2012 12:39 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

About two year ago, we learned that Universal Pictures was moving forward with a sequel to "Midnight Run," and both Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin were interested in returning. Now comes word that the studio has hired David Elliot and Paul Lovett (GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra) to rewrite the script, and is in negotiation with Brett Ratner (Tower Heist, Red Dragon) to direct. The original 1988 film revolves around bounty hunter Jack Walsh (De Niro) who is sent to find and return bail jumper and former Mafia accountant, Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas (Grodin). In order to collect his $100,000 fee, Jack must take The Duke from New York to Los Angeles. However, the Mafia and the FBI have other ideas, as does Marvin (John Ashton), a rival bounty hunter. The new movie is said to focus on Mardukas' son. Since Gordon played Mardukas, his involvement will be needed, but only for a cameo. »

Brett Ratner in talks to direct Midnight Run 2

21 March 2012 11:30 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

The long rumoured sequel to Midnight Run 2 might just be pressing ahead. And Brett Ratner is apparently in talks to direct...

I like to think that, at some point last week, Michael Bay and Brett Ratner got together for a drink. The topic of conversation? How to start baiting movie nerds again.

“I’ve got it!”, piped up Bay. “I’ll talk for 16 seconds about a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, and see if I can melt the Internet!”. “You going to throw in that alien shit?”, asked Ratner. “Hell yes!”, retorted Bay, as he downed his luxurious cocktail and promptly threw the gauntlet down to Ratner. “You’re going to have to do something to top that”, he smirked.

Midnight Run 2, then.

It’s a project that’s been in quiet gestation for a little while, having been talked about to not much warmth a year or two ago. »

Brett Ranter Could Helm Midnight Run 2

21 March 2012 4:05 PM, PDT | FusedFilm | See recent FusedFilm news »

Rumblings of a sequel to Midnight Run started to arise two years ago, when it was reported that Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin coming back together for a sequel to Midnight Run, the film that followed bounty hunter Jack Walsh (De Niro), a former Chicago cop, hunting a mob accountant played by Grodin in order to collect a $100,000 fee. The movie would be based on a script written by Tom Dowling, but news about the sequel hasn’t surfaced until now.

According to Deadline, new writers have been hired to pen the script and word is that Brett Ranter is ready to direct the movie for Universal. David Elliot and Paul Lovett (G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra) will rewrite Dowling’s script.

Brett Ratner Signs to Helm ‘Midnight Run’ Sequel; Screw You, That’s Why

21 March 2012 3:58 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

And you thought the dark and gritty Twain update would be today’s worst news? Wouldn’t that have been nice.

Deadline reports that Universal are putting their resources into Midnight Run 2, which Brett Ratner will direct from a Tim Dowling script that’s been rewritten by David Elliot and Paul Lovett. Before you ask, yes, Robert De Niro will return as bounty hunter Jack Walsh; he’s the one who started this whole discussion in 2010, anyway. Charles Grodin is a different matter, however. Although the (now retired) actor expressed a little basic interest nearly two years ago — and is reportedly “open to participating in this one if it comes up” — his participation still remains a big question mark, on account of his completely inactivity in recent years.

Some have hinted that, plot-wise, Midnight Run 2 would see Walsh going after the son of Grodin‘s character, Jonathan Mardukas. »

Midnight Run 2 In Development With De Niro To Star And Brett Ratner In Talks To Direct

Save for Al Pacino, there's no actor in Hollywood who has worked harder in the last ten years to undercut his own legacy than Robert De Niro. Formerly known as one of the greatest actors of all time, the two-time Oscar winner has spent the last ten years making absolute dreck like Showtime, Hide and Seek, Righteous Kill, New Year's Eve and the Meet The Parents sequels. But apparently he's not content with just making a mockery of his current career - he has to besmirch his legacy as well. Apparently a Midnight Run 2 is now in development with De Niro attached as Deadline reports that Universal has hired David Elliot and Paul Lovett to write the script and is currently in negotiations with Brett Ratner to direct.
