Paula Gordon: As the World Turns

1 April 2012 2:43 PM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

Something big happened on Friday. "We Shall Overcome" spontaneously erupted with the announcement of ... a new union! SAG-aftra, one union, now stands where once there were a separate Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Actors (AFTRA). Memberships of both overwhelmingly voted to merge. They include many of the faces, voices and much of the music heard and seen in every part of the world, in films, on television and radio, on cable and increasingly in the emerging world of new media.

These union members' highly visible roles in the world incalculably magnify the powerful signal this merger sends to corporate America: the labor movement is far from dead. Members of two unions, traditionally at odds, have figured out there's strength in organizing and power in unity.

While it doesn't hurt that George Clooney, Octavia Spencer, Betty White, Michael J. Fox, Robert DeNiro, Jon Cryer, »

Dial Back the Date!: March 5 Marks "Crash's" Infuriating Triumph Over "Brokeback Mountain"

5 March 2012 8:07 AM, PST | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

We're just barreling through 2012 here, aren't we? It scares me. You understand that next year is 2013, right? What kind of freaky Kubrickian year is that? Whatever. Let's live in the now and deny that we're heading into a staggering vortex that will kill us all.

1770: The Boston Massacre claims the lives of five Americans, including Crispus Attucks, and it serves as a catalyst for the outbreak of the American Revolution. Just five lives? Five lives are lost during most Craigslist transactions. Hope those Dale Earnhardt hubcaps were worth it, Crispus.

1956: Teena Marie, the late "Ivory Queen of Soul," is born. Immortal Jive Goddess Of Caucasia. Here are my three favorite Teena songs:  3) "Lovergirl," 2) "Square Biz," and 1) "Behind the Groove." Ohhhhh, yes. Never forget Lady T!

1960: Elvis Presley ends his two-year stint in the U.S. Army. And that's wonderful. But let's talk about his most frequent onscreen costar Shelley Fabares, »

'Unforgettable': Kevin Rankin on tonight's emotional episode for Roe -- Video

28 February 2012 11:26 AM, PST | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

When Kevin Rankin (Friday Night Lights, Justified) signed on for CBS’ Poppy Montgomery procedural Unforgettable, producers told him the show would eventually get around to every character’s backstory and tonight, 16 episodes in, his Det. Roe Saunders has the light shined on him. As Rankin tells us in the video interview below from his dressing room, Roe shoots a man who may or may not have been armed. The man’s father ends up taking hostages in the precinct and demanding to see the cop who killed his son. Roe is on temporary leave pending an investigation, but finds it »

ABC's 'The River' has murky premiere ratings

8 February 2012 8:18 AM, PST | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

This is a bummer: ABC’s promising thriller The River got off to a relatively modest start in the ratings Tuesday night.

The two-hour opener averaged 7.5 million viewers and a meh 2.4 rating in the adult demo, up 4 percent from the comparable debut of Off the Map last year. Moreover, the show lost a 10th of a rating point each half hour during its run. The news is a bit surprising considering how successful ABC has otherwise been at launching new shows this season, often delivering stronger premiere ratings than expected. This isn’t a lethal number, but I think most »

Lisa Steinberg: Saturday Night Slump

7 February 2012 8:42 AM, PST | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

Growing up Saturday nights were what I looked forward to the most. I got to stay up late and watch the kings and queens of comedy reign over the land of television on Saturday Night Live. Legends like John Belushi, Eddie Murphy, Chris Farley, David Spade, Sarah Silverman, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, and Gilda Radner would grace the screen and have me hysterically laughing. A tide turned and new blood came on the show and it was filled with the talents of Jimmy Fallon, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph, Will Ferrell, Cheri Oteri, Molly Shannon, Horatio Sanz, Tracy Morgan, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch. Their talents brought a new dynamic to the show that had me invested in the late night sketch show in a new way as they brought funky and fresh spin. Now that Saturday Night Live has again been updated, the sketches and the comedians that »

7 February 2012 4:01 AM, PST | TVGuide - Breaking News | See recent TVGuide - Breaking News news »

You can hear a pin drop in the Queens homicide squad as Det. Carrie Wells calls a cellphone that could belong to a serial killer she's tracking. When a drug dealer answers, she hangs up, disappointed. A familiar face in the corner makes a wisecrack and the Unforgettable cast hold back their laughs. Live from New York... it's Jane Curtin!

Blu-ray Review: Insulting, Miscast ‘I Don’t Know How She Does It’

30 January 2012 11:15 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – “I Don’t Know How She Does It” could have been just another misogynistic (you would never see “I Don’t Know How He Does It”…the very title implies sexism) alleged comedy but it goes well beyond that partially because it features one of the worst screenplays of 2011 but also because it is easily one of the most miscast movies ever made. I liked HBO’s “Sex and the City” (not the movies) but Sarah Jessica Parker simply fits this role about as well as Gene Hackman would fit in the co-lead role of the sixth “Fast and the Furious” movie. She’s awkward, uncomfortable, and never once believable. It’s nearly fascinating like a car crash. Instead, it’s just awful.

Blu-ray Rating: 0.5/5.0

A stunning portion of the first act of “Idkhsdi” consists of lead character Kate Reddy (Parker) trying to turn her store-bought pie into something that looks homemade. »
