Nicole Kidman, Robin Wright, Jessica Chastain and More Pose in Unretouched Photos for Pirelli's 2017 Calendar

29 November 2016 8:31 AM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Fourteen of Hollywood's fiercest actresses are the subjects of Pirelli's 2017 Calendar -- and the photos are far from the red carpet glamour that fans are accustomed to seeing.

Nicole Kidman, Robin Wright, Julianne Moore, Jessica Chastain, Uma Thurman, Penelope Cruz, Helen Mirren and Lupita Nyong'o are among the stars that went nearly makeup-free while posing for renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh in the 44th edition of the calendar. As far as fashion is concerned, the actresses are dressed in simple black and white styles, with Chastain donning lacy lingerie, Moore in a bodysuit and Wright in a tiny pair of shorts and vest.

The Pirelli portraits celebrate "natural beauty and femininity," and in a behind-the-scenes video of the photo shoot, Winslet, 41, says Lindbergh encouraged her to "be free and be strong" while posing for him.

Julianne Moore Joins Nicole Kidman, Robin Wright and More Ageless A-listers in Skin-Baring 2017 Pirelli Calendar

29 November 2016 6:57 AM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Over the years, the Pirelli Calendar has become synonymous with two seemingly incongruous things: tires and nudity. Make that lots of nudity. But last year, thanks to Annie Leibovitz all of that changed. The renowned photographer ushered in a new way to celebrate a handful of her favorite famous ladies, focusing on women whose lives and works inspire her rather than putting the emphasis on their physiques alone. And this year, photographer Peter Lindbergh has chosen to follow suit, seeking to capture the inner depths of A-list actresses like Julianne Moore, Uma Thurman, Robin Wright, and Nicole Kidman.

Wong Kar-wai to Direct ‘Gucci’ Biopic Produced by Annapurna Pictures

16 November 2016 12:58 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

After finally releasing his long-gestating action epic The Grandmaster a few years back, Wong Kar-wai has stayed fairly quiet. That is until this summer, when we learned he teamed with the powerful Chinese production company Huanxi Media Group to fund an original, 18-episode drama series to produce and direct a few episodes of. With production not kicking off until next year for that series and details being scant so far, we now have word of a promising new feature film he will reportedly direct.

Buried at the bottom of a THR article about Megan Ellison‘s Annapurna Pictures and how they plan to have a “content empire” is the news that the In the Mood For Love director will helm Gucci for the company. Years ago it was attached to Ridley Scott with Angelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead — as well as Penelope Cruz circling at one point — but that talent has left, »

Newswire: Penelope Cruz has also booked a ticket for Murder On The Orient Express

13 November 2016 5:57 PM, PST | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Kenneth Branagh’s Murder On The Orient Express is quickly filling up with more and more famous passengers. Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley, Michael Peña, Judi Dench, Josh Gad, and Branagh himself (who is both directing and playing Hercule Poirot) have already claimed their seats, and now Deadline is reporting that Penelope Cruz has also stepped onto this metaphorical train car with a ticket in hand. Like the original Agatha Christie novel, this movie version will concern a businessman (Depp, apparently) getting murdered on a train and the many strangers onboard who could’ve done it. We don’t have very many specific details beyond that, including who Cruz might be playing, but it’s a pretty iconic-yet-straightforward story. We can’t imagine this version will differ too much from the others beyond the aforementioned famous passengers. »

Philip Roth (Courtesy: Eric Thayer/Reuters

By: Carson Blackwelder

Managing Editor

When it comes to acclaimed American authors, Philip Roth is right up there with the best of them—so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that his work has been translated from page to screen numerous times and to varying degrees of success.

Over the years, seven of the novelist’s books have been adapted to the big screen—with two of them coming out in 2016 alone: Indignation and American Pastoral. Before that, though, there was Goodbye, Columbus, Portnoy’s Complaint, The Human Stain, Elegy (based on The Dying Animal), and The Humbling.

Goodbye, Columbus (1969)—which starred Ali MacGraw and Richard Benjamin—earned Arnold Schulman a nomination for best adapted screenplay and was generally well-received by critics and did quite well at the box office.

Portnoy’s Complaint (1972)—which was adapted by Ernest Lehman—didn’t fare that »
