‘Pirates Of The Caribbean 5′ Plots A Course For Jul 2017

23 July 2014 9:51 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

With a Yo Ho Ho and a barrel of luck…? Despite some potentially voyage-scuppering difficulties it appears Disney are crossing their fingers and hoping the next few months will iron out any kinks (and no I’m not talking about Jack Sparrow’s predilections) in the fifth instalment of the Potc franchise. A date of July 7th 2017 has been announced for Dead Men Tell No Tales, reportedly to give writer Jeff Nathanson room to breathe as he cranks out the pages.

Nathanson isn’t a bad choice to bring us fresh adventures for Johnny Depp and company. He worked on Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, so if he can navigate the wrangling between Steven Spielberg and George Lucas he should be fine scripting a rattling good yarn for a few sea-bound scallywags. Although 2011′s On Stranger Tides took the peculiar route of being adapted from a non-pirates novel, »

Nicolas Cage's 5 craziest roles: The Wicker Man, Bad Lieutenant

22 July 2014 1:30 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

As Nicolas Cage returns to Oscar-worthy form in David Gordon Green's extraordinary Southern Gothic drama Joe, we celebrate some of the strangest roles he's essayed along the way, from insect-munching Manhattanite to bee-wrangling bear impersonator. It's not always pretty, but it's never boring...

Vampire's Kiss (1988)

After he was a leading man, but before he was a very good one, Cage played that 1980s stalwart – the Yuppy Dick – in this off-kilter black comedy. Enunciating in an inexplicably anglicised drawl, like Loyd Grossman shouting through a tube, his character Peter Loew confides to his therapist: "I brought this girl up to my place, really hot, you knooooooow... Suddenly, this bat comes sweeping down out of noooowhere. I'll be daaaaamned if I didn't get really turned on!"

From here things only get stranger, with Loew exhibiting all the usual signs of vampirism: cringing at the sign of crosses/mirrors, shouting the alphabet »

Sacha Baron Cohen's 'Grimsby' Gives Lessons on How Not to Get a Town to Like You

15 July 2014 1:00 PM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Sacha Baron Cohen's upcoming spy spoof, "Grimsby," is also a bit of a spoof of the real-life titular town in which it's set -- and residents are none too pleased with their portrayal.

Local media reports indicate that natives of Grimsby, England have been horrified by the way the town is being set up for the film. Though shooting is taking place in a small town just outside of London, not in Grimbsy itself, locals who have caught wind of the production say that producers are aiming to make it looks like the northern England port town -- but with run-down, offensive results.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that residents have seen the Grimsby stand-in filled with "gardens covered in rubbish, graffiti scrawled on walls, cars on bricks and boarded up shops. Pictures that have emerged from the shoot show characters urinating out of windows, drunks passed out on benches »

Sacha Baron Cohen upsets Grimsby residents with new film

14 July 2014 8:56 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Grimsby residents have spoken out against Sacha Baron Cohen's upcoming film.

The town is expected to be portrayed as a rundown home of football hooliganism in Grimsby.

The comedy has begun shooting in the Essex port town of Tilbury, which has been transformed for the film into a version of the Lincolnshire town populated by drunks and people urinating in the street.

North East Lincolnshire councillor Matthew Brown told the Mail Online that he was "disappointed" by the portrayal of Grimsby.

"It is using the town's name in potentially a poor light," he said. "What also worries me is that there is no benefit to the local economy which is carrying the town's name. Anything that you associate with football hooliganism is going to be negative, but I hope people will be open-minded when they watch the film.

"My view is quite simple. We don't have a massive issue with hooliganism. »

These recaps tend to be a bit superhero and blockbuster heavy, but this week Tinseltown gave us a bit more to work with, creating a more evenly balanced array of news items to talk about. On one end of the spectrum we have updates on Ridley Scott’s next biblical epic, and the upcoming spin-off of The Conjuring (which gives me nightmares from the premise alone). Penelope Cruz Joining Sacha Baron Cohen for 'Grimsby' Comedy

Sacha Baron Cohen already has his gorgeous wife Isla Fisher on board his spy comedy Grimsby at Sony Pictures, but another lovely lately has just entered the mix as well. THR has word that Penelope Cruz is in final talks to join the film about a soccer hooligan (Cohen) forced to team up with his a British black ops agent brother (Mark Strong). It's interesting that Cruz is taking a role in this kind of spy comedy since the actress has been rumored a couple times for a role in the James Bond franchise as one of the signature vixens. But in this film, she'll be playing a philanthropic corporate leader who might be keeping a secret. That means Cruz could either be an undercover agent, or some kind of villain. She joins a cast that also includes Rebel Wilson, Ian McShane, Gabourey Sidibe and more. This marks just the »

Today, the sizable cast of Sacha Baron Cohen’s spy comedy Grimsby continues to grow, with news that Oscar winner Penelope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona) has joined the cast in an important supporting role.

Though the specifics of Cruz’s role are officially being kept under wraps, insiders report that the actress is playing “a philanthropic corporate leader who may (or may not) be more than she seems.” Does this mean that Cruz could be playing the film’s big bad? That’s entirely possible, though Ian McShane is also in the cast, so he could be taking on the role of the main antagonist.

Grimsby stars Mark Strong as a James Bond-like secret agent who is forced to go into hiding in his hometown during a dangerous assignment. There, he’s forced to team up with his English football hooligan brother (Baron Cohen), who gets wrapped up in the action as well. »

For the day on set, Cohen looked nearly unrecognizable in a shaggy wig with bangs and mutton chops stretching down to his chin. In his role as a British soccer hooligan, Cohen sported a English national team jersey paired with wide-legged jean capris and sport sandals with socks. The Borat actor also appeared to be wearing a fake beer belly under his jersey top.

In the comedy feature, Cohen plays a supporter of lower league squad Grimsby Town, in Purfleet, England. The hapless soccer junkie is ultimately roped into a spy mission with his brother – a James Bond-styled spy agent played by Strong.
