'Oral Sex During Turbulence': True Tales From the '70s Rock-Star Party Plane of Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and More

19 May 2015 12:02 PM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Decades before deep-pocketed rock and pop stars embraced the Gulfstream V, there was the Starship, a former United Airlines Boeing 720 refurbished in the early 1970s by teen heartthrob Bobby Sherman and his manager, Ward Sylvester, as an airborne pleasure dome. The plane plied the skies in the service of, among others, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, The Allman Brothers, The Bee Gees, Elton John, Peter Frampton and Alice Cooper. One of the great artifacts of the coke-flecked, halter-topped, 'lude-dropping rock 'n' roll gestalt of the '70s — and probable inspiration for Austin Powers'

Alice Cooper's new album is ready to go

21 April 2015 11:37 AM, PDT | National Ledger | See recent National Ledger news »

Alice Cooper's new album - featuring Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl and Johnny Depp - is ''done, mixed and ready to go''. Titled 'Hollywood Vampires', the LP will pay tribute to the social group that the 'Poison' singer used to drink with in the 70s, which included John Lennon, Keith Moon, Harry Nilsson and Ringo Starr, and will include covers of songs made famous by the friends that the group has ''lost to drugs and alcohol over the years''. Cooper said: ''The album's done. It's mixed, ready to go and I'm very, very happy with it. I'm really happy with all the stuff on it. McCartney's on it. (Ringo Starr's drummer son) Zak Starkey's on it. Dave Grohl is on it, (AC/DC frontman) Brian Johnson, and in places where you wouldn't expect them to be, that's the cool thing.'' While the 67-year-old rocker wouldn't reveal which »

Blu-ray Review: Class of 1984

14 April 2015 5:11 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Around the time I brought this Vestron Video release home from my local video store, I had an adolescent fascination with how the punk rock subculture that influenced my development had been portrayed in the media. In everything from video games to television and films, punk rockers were mostly portrayed as villains. There was a mythological aura surrounding the way these rebellious thugs were portrayed and it's clear in Class of 1984 that filmmaker Mark L. Lester (Commando) had a similar fascination and knew that pushing the legend made for better cinema.

Lester proudly declares now that he was prophetically making a film that bares important social significance and considers it to be the best film he's ever made, but let's be honest and admit that this movie is pure sleazy exploitation. Don't get me wrong, I love some good fun exploitation and as far as that's concerned there's no »

Bluray Review: Class Of 1984

13 April 2015 5:16 PM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

Mark L. Lester’s 1982 cautionary tale, Class Of 1984, makes its Bluray debut and takes the cake as far as Scream Factory’s recent releases go, easily being the most entertaining and definitely a must-own for any collectors of not only cult cinema but great films in general. Not only does the teachers vs. students classic look absolutely gorgeous in HD, but is also given the Sf treatment, with brand new interviews filled to the brim with stories and entertaining docs.

The Film:

What makes Class Of 1984 so entertaining, is not only its entertainment value, but also how dead on the film was about the condition of schools and events that would eventually become a reality. Telling the tale of Perry King’s Andy Norris character, an idealistic teacher still in love with teaching music to students, the film starts on Andy’s first day as a teacher at Lincoln High. »

From Insurgent to Blade Runner: why is the future on film always so grim?

19 March 2015 11:51 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

A miserable vision of tomorrow has taken hold of Hollywood: bad food, lousy transport and Alice Cooper styling. You’re better off dead

We are now living in a golden age of dystopian films; that is, incredibly depressing films set at some point in the future – often, the relatively near future – where life is a complete mess and no one is happy, not even the fascist scum who run things. In the few instances where people seem to be happy, it’s only because the fascist scum have tricked them into thinking they’re happy. Well, they won’t stay happy for long. This is not utopia. This is utopia turned on its head. This is dystopia.

Last year, there was a tsunami of dystopian films, including The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Divergent, The Maze Runner, Robocop, The Purge: Anarchy, Snowpiercer, The Rover, »

Band of Brothers: Young Guitarists Cj and Max Teas Rock to Help Veterans

5 March 2015 1:45 PM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Like most boys their age, brothers Cj and Max Teas spend their days shuttling from middle school to baseball practice. But it's the end of the day when they work the hardest. The brothers rock out at least an hour a night in the family’s Charlotte, North Carolina, guest bedroom turned music studio, rehearsing with their band. They play to crowds at area restaurants and festivals, but don't earn a dime. The boys give away everything they make. Before moving to Charlotte two years ago, Cj, now 13, and Max, now 12, grew up in a town devastated by the 9/11 attacks. »

James ‘The Amazing’ Randi Speaks at ‘An Honest Liar’ Screening

4 March 2015 3:42 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The big draw at a special screening on Tuesday night in Hollywood wasn’t a leading man or hot new starlet, but an 86-year-old retired magician.

Attendees at the screening and reception held at the Magic Castle were anxious to meet James “the Amazing” Randi, the subject of a new documentary called “An Honest Liar.” The film chronicles Randi’s journey from escape artist and magician to a skeptic who famously debunked faith healers and psychics. Everyone from Alice Cooper to Penn and Teller weigh in on his influence, and the movie contains rarely seen archival footage of Randi appearing on everything from “The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson” to “Happy Days.” But while making the film, directors Justin Weinstein and Tyler Measom ended up discovering a deception Randi in which has been involved for over 25 years and debate whether Randi knew about the lie or not.

Icons of Fright Interview With Ouija/Talking Board Authority/Historian Robert Murch!!

22 February 2015 2:06 AM, PST | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

We can all agree on one thing: Ouija boards are fucking awesome. At some point in our lives (yeah, I’m talking to all of you, you wonderfully awesome lovers of horror), our curiosity gets the best of us and we engage in some Ouija action. Why? Because it is interesting. I’ve definitely taken part in my share of Ouija experiences and some of them left me pretty shaken up.  Along with Icons of Fright Eic Jerry Smith, who was there for Fangoria, I recently attended the DVD/Bluray launch of Blumhouse’s film that dealt with all things talking board-related, an experience which led me to later reach out to the expert of all things Ouija and Talking Board, Robert Murch. Not only is he packed full of knowledge in the history of the board, but he also worked as an adviser for that little film released this year called, »

Johnny Depp has formed a supergroup with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry. The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actor has created Hollywood Vampires with the 67-year-old rocker and Aerosmith guitarist, who will make their first performance at the Rock in Rio music festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in September. A message on Alice's website read: ''Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp have been partners for a while and now with Joe Perry also on Hollywood Vampires, they will 'rock it out' yet once again.'' The newly formed band - whose name pays homage to a posse of musicians who used alcohol for initiation in the 1970s - will perform on the same evening as Queens of the Stone Age and System of a Down at the annual event, which takes place on various dates between September 18 and 27. Teachers Vs. Students When Scream Factory Unleashes Class On 1984 This April!!

13 February 2015 11:01 AM, PST | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

When it comes to cult films of the ’80s, the Mark L. Lester (Commando, Firestarter)-helmed Class Of 1984 has always been one that has held a special place in my heart. I caught it for the first time as a kid, when my grandmother and I watched TV together and this gem of a film came on, and my grandmother and I were both equally on edge. The “teacher vs. rebel students” film is by far one of my favorite films, so when Scream Factory e-mailed me about their upcoming Bluray debut of Class Of 1984 hitting shelves (and online stores) on April 14th, the idea of a brand new, collector’s edition Bluray instantly gave me a smile from ear to ear. The film has everything from a script co-written by horror legend Tom Holland, a kickass Alice Cooper song, an early appearance by Michael J.Fox, and »
