Puck - "School's Out"What's a high school slacker (Mark Salling) to do when he thinks he's not going to graduate? Why, stop caring of course, and rock out to Alice Cooper's "School's Out."Quinn - "Cherish/Cherish"Dianna Agron's Quinn had quite a year ...wait, scratch that. Quinn's had quite a high school career! Pregnancy, break-ups, goth phase, paralyzed, this girl has seen it all. At least for a brief moment this year she got to enjoy the stage when singing a mash-up of The Association and Madonna with Mercedes, Sam and Joe (Samuel Larsen).Mike Chang - "Scream"Definitely best known for his amazing dancing, the lack of singing from Harry Shum Jr.'s Mike Chang is a running joke on the show. It was pretty awesome though when he and Artie (Kevin McHale) recreated the epic Michael Jackson/ Janet Jackson "Scream" video during an Artie dream sequence. »

Director: Tim Burton. Writers: Seth Grahame-Smith and John August (story). Cast: Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Jackie Earle Haley, Chloë Grace Moretz, Alice Cooper, Christopher Lee and Eva Green. Sometimes injecting new blood into an old favourite, namely Dark Shadows, is not required. The original 60's show ages very well on its own; the 90's version looks like it was introduced to a market not quite ready for vampire fever, and the 2012 product? Twilight is over, and so should the vampire rest. Tim Burton's directorial attempt at reviving Dark Shadows for a new generation is more like reinvigorating interest than to try something new. Not everyone will want to go delving into exploring the series mythos with the originals. Instead, what this film does is to combine almost everything supernatural plot-wise that defined the television show into nearly two hours. Not all of them are properly introduced. »

This June Syfy is giving us a new creature feature every weekend. Are they saving the best for last when two 1970’s family show icons, a pair of classic rockers, and a “Twin Peaks” beauty join forces to stop Bigfoot?
Danny Bonaduche (Aka “Danny Partridge” of “The Patridge Family”), Barry Williams (Aka “Greg Brady” of “The Brady Bunch”), Howard Hesseman (Aka “Dr. Johnny Fever” of “Wkrp in Cincinnati”), Sherilyn Fenn (of “Twin Peaks” fame), Andre Royo (of “Fringe” fame), 80’s rocker Billy Idol, and horror rocker Alice Cooper star in this newest slice of Sasquatchploitation produced by The Asylum for Syfy. Actor Bruce Davison of X-Men and a long list of movies steps behind the camera to direct the simply titled Bigfoot.
I’ve asked this question before, but it bears repeating: Why is Bigfoot constantly pissed off these days? Now he’s got it in for 80’s music. Who »

Battleship: Brooklyn Decker, Taylor Kitsch Brooklyn Decker has two box-office disappointments opening on the same weekend: Decker is featured in Battleship and What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Both movies opened way below expectations on Friday; in fact, official studio estimates released Saturday morning have them faring even worse than Friday night estimates indicated. Starring Taylor Kitsch, Peter Berg’s Battleship raked in $9m at 3,650 locations on Friday in the Us/Canada according to Box Office Mojo. That’s about $500k less than early estimates. For comparison’s sake: Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, at the start of its third weekend out, took in an estimated $15.3m. Box-office prognosticators were expecting Battleship to gross $40m on its first weekend out in North America. It turns out the alien invasion actioner / sci-fier will be lucky if it earns much more than $25m. A Universal release, Battleship cost a reported $209m. »

Jennifer Lopez, What to Expect When You’re Expecting Still going strong, The Avengers is on its third weekend out. Yet, the domestic box office is expected to be down 18% compared to last year because of three weak new entries: Peter Berg / Taylor Kitsch’s megabudgeted Battleship barely managed to stay afloat on Friday, while Sacha Baron Cohen‘s The Dictator (which opened on Wed.) and Kirk Jones’ all-star ensemble (Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Chace Crawford, etc.) What to Expect When You’re Expecting performed below expectations. [See Box Office: Battleship bombs.] The Dictator grossed an estimated $5.5m at 3,008 theaters on Friday, for an expected weekend total of $16m, as per Deadline.com. Sacha Baron Cohen’s R-rated comedy will thus reach a cume of $23m after five days. For comparison’s sake, Bruno — which was considered a major box-office disappointment following Borat — opened with $30.61m on its first weekend out in July 2009. Supporting Baron »

The seemingly endless wait for the Syfy summer schedule is finally over! There is good news and bad, and one thing that is both good and bad. Let’s start with that: the Eureka Season Finale. We love Eureka, so every episode is good news; the fact that it’s a series finale, not so much. Mark your calendars – and have plenty of Kleenex in stock – for July 16 at 9/8c. Right after Comic-Con, which is early this year. We’ll see if that means a panel or not.
The good news: Warehouse 13 and Alphas return on July 23. The hmmm news is that Lost Girl will move to Fridays at 10 on July 20. Hey That’S Haven’S Spot. So Where The Heck Is Haven? Admittedly we had a head’s up that Haven would be pushed to fall when we learned that the DVDs for Season 2 weren’t being released until September but Argh. »

Dark Shadows, 2012.
Directed by Tim Burton.
Starring Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Chloë Grace Moretz and Bella Heathcote.
Synopsis:
After being imprisoned for two centuries, a vampire finds himself set free in 1972 and discovers that his dysfunctional descendants have allowed his ancestral home to fall to ruin.
Tim Burton has been telling the same story his whole career. If you’re aware of this scruffy haired man with the blue glasses and the cackling villain beard at all, you must be quite aware of that by now. It’s a simple, mostly effective formula: a pale, quirky lead character (usually Johnny “Cheekbones” Depp) tries to adjust to modern life, fails, then learns to love being a gothic freak. Give or take a Planet of the Apes, we’re usually right behind him.
Now here comes Dark Shadows, where a vampire »

Directed by: Bobcat Goldthwait
Cast: Joel Murray, Tara Lynne Barr
Running Time: 1 hr 40 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: May 11, 2012 (Chicago)
Plot: A divorced father and bored employee with a medical death sentence decides to go on a rampage and kill people who are not nice. He is joined by a high school girl named Roxy (Barr).
Who’S It For?: Liberal or conservative, a lover of reality TV show stars or not, this very violent comedy is for viewers who can take a joke.
Expectations: My previous experience with Goldthwait’s films, World’s Greatest Dad, tickled me with its dark absurdity. I was curious as to how the comedian now writer/director who do with a concept that sounded like it could easily become a rant.

Dark Shadows is expected to finish its first domestic weekend with $27-28m — or less than the amount ($29.1m) The Avengers earned on its second Friday out. Witches, apparently, are the most powerful creatures on the entire planet.
Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp) doesn't know this when he spurns the love of cleaning lady/witch Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green) in preference for the doe-eyed Josette du Pres (Bella Heathcote). Angelique is a petty and vengeful creature, and so casts a spell that forces Josette to leap off a cliff and that turns Barnabas into a vampire. She then rallies the villagers against her ex-lover and arranges to have him buried for roughly 200 years, until he is awakened in 1972.
Barnabas gets dug up by a group of construction workers and rejoins what remains of his family. He finds they had long ago converted their fishing business into a cannery, »

Johnny Depp vampire: Dark Shadows The Avengers to break another box-office record? As per early, rough box-office estimates, the Joss Whedon-directed superhero movie is expected to gross $28-29m at 4,349 theaters in North America on Friday and a whopping $100m by Sunday evening — up from $80-90m predicted earlier today. Meanwhile, Tim Burton / Johnny Depp’s Dark Shadows opened with a disappointing $10.5m at 3,755 locations. Dark Shadows is expected to finish its first weekend with $28m — the amount The Avengers is expected to earn on its second Friday out. The above figures were found at Deadline.com, which adds that Dark Shadows distributor Warner Bros. was expecting at the very least a $35m opening weekend. Burton and Depp’s previous collaboration, Alice in Wonderland, opened with $116m in March 2010. Making matters worse for Dark Shadows: its budget is pegged at $150-175m, not including marketing / distribution expenses. Unless »

Comparing the box-office performance of Dark Shadows to those of, say, Jennifer Lawrence’s eagerly awaited The Hunger Games or Joss Whedon’s superhero ensemble The Avengers would be not only cruel but downright unfair. Although the previous Burton / Depp collaboration, Alice in Wonderland, was a humongous hit, opening with $116 million in March 2010, Burton’s campy version of the late ’60s soap opera Dark Shadows has a different sort of appeal. »

When Johnny Depp wants to throw a party in Dark Shadows, he calls in the big guns and gets Alice Cooper to perform. Never mind the fact that Cooper is weirdly playing himself circa 1972: The allure of the rock star cameo is too strong! Whether you end up loving it or hating it (as our reviewer did), one has to admit that there are few films like "Dark Shadows" in theaters this summer. Based on the popular 1960s/1970s ABC soap that included vampires, werewolves and witches, the film is a curious blend of comedy, drama and horror that's indelibly a Tim Burton creation.
"Dark Shadows" is in theaters today, and as ever, there's been a wealth of interviews with Burton, lead Johnny Depp, and other cast and crew members. We've sifted through it all to pick out a few highlights, and you can find a selection of them below.
The original draft of the script was darker, and an ensemble piece.
Writer Seth Grahame-Smith was brought on board to rewrite a draft by Burton's regular collaboration John August, after impressing the director with his work on the Burton-produced "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter." Grahame-Smith »

Chicago – Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows” is one of the most inconsistent and frustrating major films in a long time. There are elements here and there that work but Burton and writer Seth Grahame-Smith seem incapable of figuring out how to wrangle them into a coherent, successful film. I like Johnny Depp and Eva Green’s performances and Colleen Atwood’s costumes are typically fantastic but rarely has a film more aptly proven the “more is less” theory – part comedy, part horror, part ‘70s spoof, part soap opera. And yet none of the genres in this mash-up are the least bit successful.

Depp plays the legendary Barnabas Collins, an eighteenth century son of a tycoon big enough that the town of Collinsport is named after him. Collins falls for the lovely Josette (stunning newcomer Bella Heathcote) but this infuriates the witch Angelique Bouchard (Green), who happens to be in love with the mysterious Barney. »

By now, you've probably heard about Tim Burton's new movie, "Dark Shadows." Based on the popular '70s soap opera, the adaptation stars Johnny Depp (of course) as Barnabas Collins, a vampire who seeks revenge on a jealous witch. Let's take a look in this week's Pro-Con. Pro: The set design and costumes One thing the movie nails: The 1970s aesthetic, with its lava lamps, music, clothes and cars. Con: The script Sure, the movie may be great to look at, but that doesn't matter when the script is in total shambles. "Dark Shadows" is filled with plot holes and unanswered questions. Pro: The soundtrack The film features a terrific selection of classic rock hits, from "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" by T.Rex to the »

The history of cinema has had many long-running actor/director partnerships. What first springs to my mind is the long collaboration between actor John Wayne and director John Ford, which has inspired several film books and documentaries. More recently we’ve had the Martin Scorsese and Robert DeNiro team-ups ( although Leonardo DiCaprio may just catch up to Mr. D ). And now we have the eighth film that actor Johnny Depp has done with director Tim Burton since they first paired all the way back in 1990 for Edward Scissorhands ( Wow! ). After films based on children’s books, a low-budget filmmaker’s life, and a Broadway musical what have the duo decided to tackle now? Why, it’s a classic cult TV show from the late 1960′s : Dark Shadows. What’s their take on this supernatural soap opera?.

Tim Burton plays the jokey 'darkness' of his style to totally predictable effect in his latest oddity-comedy
The new film from Tim Burton does something that is rarer than you might think. It whelms you. Its effect is whelming. The film delivers precisely the satisfaction a sympathetic audience could expect from its director, not one degree above or below. The audience is whelmed. It's a whelmer. Tim Burton drives it straight down the middle of the anticipation fairway. You will be whelmed by the Goth style, whelmed by the CGI olde-worlde darkness of the Liverpool-in-1760 prologue, whelmed by Johnny Depp's vampire makeup and quasi-English accent and occasional funny line, and intensely, almost sensually whelmed by the fact that Helena Bonham Carter is in it. This really is a reasonably, moderately, whelmingly good film.
It is based on a cult Us TV show from Burton's childhood that never made it »
