Bernie Sanders was all business during his Hollywood town hall on Thursday. The senator from Vermont took part in a last-minute town hall event for Sean “P. Diddy” Combs’ Revolt TV, a multi-platform network aimed at young audiences. While Sanders mostly stuck to his stump speech, there were a few moments that stood out, including egging on Trump, chatting about pot and that churro he got from a voter just as he was about to leave. Anthony Mackie Will Play Johnnie Cochran In Signal Hill Case Film

3 May 2016 3:59 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Actor Anthony Mackie continues to capitalize on his excellent work in Marvel’s Captain America franchise, with the announcement that he will play legendary late lawyer Johnnie Cochran in a film about the Signal Hill police brutality case that hit the headlines back in 1981.

Mackie will also serve as producer on the project, which is gaining traction in the wake of the recent miniseries The People V O.J Simpson: American Crime Story – a show that shone a light on the back-room machinations of one of Cochran’s most high profile cases. But, long before Cochran was representing the likes of Simpson, Michael Jackson, Sean Combs, Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg and Marion Jones, he was an advocate for victims of police brutality – and it is this element of his career that the new movie will focus on.

Comcast Blasts Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios as ‘Serial Litigant’ in FCC Response

5 April 2016 8:08 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Comcast has fired back to Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios, calling the company a “serial litigant” and denying that it has failed to abide by its FCC obligations regarding carriage of minority-owned TV channels.

Entertainment Studios and the National Association of African-American Owned Media filed a petition with the FCC last month claiming that Comcast has failed to comply with commitments it made to the FCC as part of its 2011 acquisition of NBCUniversal. At that time, Comcast agreed to give broad carriage to 10 independently owned cable channels within 10 years of the merger’s closing. Four of those were to be majority owned by African-Americans.

Entertainment Studios claimed in its petition that two channels launched on Comcast to date — Magic Johnson’s Aspire and Sean Combs’ Revolt — were not majority owned by either Johnson or Combs. Comcast refuted that assertion in its April 4 response filing, noting that Combs and Johnson last »

Byron Allen Accuses Comcast, FCC of Violating NBCUniversal Merger Conditions

28 March 2016 6:14 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Updated: Byron Allen’s National Association of African-American Owned Media has accused Comcast of violating key terms of its agreement with the FCC that paved the way for its 2011 acquisition of NBCUniversal.

The org filed a petition with the FCC late Friday outlining its assertion that Comcast has not complied with its promise to launch multiple new cable channels owned at least in part by African-Americans within eight years of the merger. Comcast strongly denied the claims made in the petition, calling the allegations “inflammatory, inaccurate and unsupported.”

The petition challenges the significance of the African-American ownership interests in Aspire, which counts Magic Johnson among its investors, and Sean Combs’ Revolt channel. Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios and the Naaaom have a lawsuit pending in federal court against Comcast charging racial discrimination in the cable giant’s failure to carry any of Entertainment Studios’ seven cable channels.

How Leonardo DiCaprio Channeled Gatsby at Vanity Fair’s Oscars Party

29 February 2016 1:28 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Because everybody is a VIP at the annual Vanity Fair Oscars party, there’s no roped off section. But that didn’t stop Leonardo DiCaprio — channeling his alter ego in “The Great Gatsby” — from keeping his distance. DiCaprio arrived shortly after 11 p.m., with his best actor Oscar statuette from “The Revenant” in hand, and he quickly set up shop in a booth at the front, with his friends (and bodyguards) acting as a shield. Chris Rock swung by to rub DiCaprio’s shoulder, as they whispered compliments to each other (on hosting/winning). Tobey Maguire lounged on an adjacent sofa. The rest of the well-wishers included Patricia Clarkson, Anthony Mackie and Juliette Lewis.

If you couldn’t get to the star, there was the next best thing. A few brave souls managed to actually touch Leo’s Oscar, which sat on a cocktail table. Then Caitlyn Jenner — in a »
