New Release: Celebrity Bowling DVD

26 March 2011 10:11 AM, PDT | Disc Dish | See recent Disc Dish news »

Celebrity Bowling—that unabashedly silly but undeniably entertaining weekly TV show that ran for eight years in the 1970s (from 1971 though ’78) is coming to DVD From S’More Entertainment.

The Celebrity Bowling  3-dvd Collector’s Set will be available on June 14.

Hosted by Jed Allan (CSI: Miami), Celebrity Bowling featured a pair of two-celebrity teams competing on regulation size bowling lanes that were actually installed inside the show’s studio at L.A.’s Kttv Channel 5.

The rules of the game were known as “best ball”—each team member would take a shot on their own lane. If neither bowled a strike, then whoever rolled the worse shot would try to put up a spare on their partner’s lane. Winning teams garnered prizes (usually appliances, but occasionally even cars!) for audience members both present and sitting at home.

Collins' Restaurant Charge Dismissed

4 March 2011 8:11 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actor Gary Collins will face no further action over an allegation he left a restaurant in Mississippi without paying - the complaint against him has been dismissed.

The veteran TV star was arrested in Biloxi, Mississippi in January after allegedly ordering a meal at Jazzeppi's Restaurant and leaving before settling his $59.35 (£39.57) bill. He was subsequently charged with defrauding an innkeeper.

Police detective Tim McKaid later revealed Collins claimed he had walked out of the restaurant without eating his dinner because staff were "taking too long to bring his steak". He reportedly paid the bill within a few days of the incident.

Collins went to court on Wednesday to face the allegation against him and the case was dismissed by Judge Albert Fountain after the restaurant employee who filed an affidavit over the incident withdrew his complaint against the star. »

Retro Review 1981: Hangar 18

14 January 2011 12:52 AM, PST | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

The mid-to-late 1970s saw a number of movie fads: disaster flicks (The Towering Inferno, Airport), killer animal flicks inspired by the success of Steven Spielberg's Jaws (like the mutant bear movie Prophecy, the killer bee movies, etc.) and pseudo-documentaries about real life monsters and unexplained phenomena like UFOs. Notable among the latter portion of this wave of cheapo productions were the films made by Sunn Classic Pictures.

As a little kid whose mind was influenced by a steady stream of watching monster movies on late night television, Aurora models and the latest issues of Famous Monsters of Filmland and Starlog, the possibility that real-life monsters  like Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster and space aliens could exist was like being told that Santa Claus was legit (but creepier and spookier, I suppose.) Sunn found success with a couple of quasi-documentaries like The Mysterious Monsters (Hosted by Peter Graves! With appearances »

Troubled Collins Charged For Walking Out On Bill

5 January 2011 2:01 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actor Gary Collins is facing a felony charge in relation to his arrest for allegedly leaving a Mississippi restaurant without paying.

The veteran TV star was detained by cops in Biloxi on Tuesday night on suspicion of defrauding an innkeeper.

Collins allegedly ordered a meal at Jazzeppi's Restaurant but left before settling his $59.35 (£39.57) bill.

Restaurant workers are said to have followed the actor into the parking lot in an attempt to ask him about the unpaid tab, according to TMZ.com.

Biloxi Police Department Assistant Chief Rodney McGilvary now confirms Collins was charged with the felony crime and has since been released from custody after posting $5,000 (£3,333) bond on Wednesday.

A court date has not yet been set.

The Airport star has had a tough few months - a warrant was issued for his arrest in November after he failed to appear for a probation progress hearing in connection to a 2007 drink driving accident. He was also involved in a hit-and-run incident in Mississippi the same month.

The veteran actor has been arrested on three prior occasions for driving under the influence over the last eight years. »

Forget Hour Magazine. It seems Gary Collins prefers a night in jail. The former TV fixture was arrested in Biloxi, Miss., after leaving a popular Italian eatery without paying his tab.
