The Panel: Moderator/consulting producer David Mirkin, executive producers Al Jean and Matt Groening, supervising director Mike Anderson, and Yeardley Smith (voice of Lisa Simpson), who flew into San Diego by helicopter and landed on the USS Midway. Too bad we didn’t get to see that entrance.

'The Simpsons' creator Matt Groening gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

15 February 2012 12:21 PM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

The family he spawned has long since had a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But on Tuesday (Feb. 14), "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening earned his spot on the fabled sidewalk of immortality.

Groening, who launched "The Simpsons" in 1987 as a series of animated shorts on "The Tracey Ullman Show," now readies for the series to air its 500th episode on Sunday (Feb. 19). The program has since earned 27 prime time Emmys and made billions for Fox.

The name on the 2,459 star has done a decent amount of work outside "The Simpsons" as well. He's the creator of the animated series "Futurama" and is also the animator and writer of the long-running comic strip "Life in Hell."

Groening celebrated the occasion with a number of voices from "The Simpsons" including Hank Azaria, Nancy Cartwright and Yeardley Smith.

Groening Receives Hollywood Star

15 February 2012 4:11 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

The Simpsons creator Matt Groening has been honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, in the same week the 500th episode of the classic cartoon aired.

Groening, who created Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson in the 1980s, was joined at the ceremony on Tuesday by Hank Azaria, Nancy Cartwright, and Yeardley Smith, who voice several of the characters on the show.

The screenwriter said at the unveiling, "I want to thank Nancy Cartwright, who channelled a ten-year-old, troubled boy, the day I met her in 1987 and here's a secret about the show - whenever we run into a spot of trouble, a moment of silence, we just throw in an off screen voice of Bart Simpson saying 'Aye Carumba' and it fixes the joke." »
