'Bates Motel' Season 2 preview: More of Norman and Norma's relatives on the way

21 May 2013 12:12 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

After a killer first season proved "Bates Motel" is far more than a schlocky attempt at a "Psycho" prequel, we're eager to see what the show has in store for us next.

The Season 1 finale left us with so many questions -- Did Norman actually kill Miss Watson? Or is her death connected to other dangerous elements of White Pine Bay? Who was Bradley's father having an affair with? What's Sheriff Romero really up to? And what exactly happened in Norma's past? -- and of course the powers that be won't give us answers, because that would spoil the fun.

Here's what executive producer Carlton Cuse and stars Vera Farmiga, Freddie Highmore, Max Thieriot and Nestor Carbonell were able to tease about Season 2 before the recent "Bates Motel" event at the Paley Center in Los Angeles.

Get ready to meet more branches on the Bates family tree...

'Bates Motel' Season 1 finale preview: Norma's secret revealed

20 May 2013 11:56 AM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Ready or not, it's check-out time for "Bates Motel" Season 1. A&E's quirky thriller pulls back the curtain on its season finale, "Midnight," tonight and promises to reveal new information about the mysterious past of Norma Bates.

"You'll discover some things about Norma in the [finale] that'll make you jump," co-star Nestor Carbonell told us on the red carpet at the show's recent Paley Center event in Los Angeles.

Executive producer Kerry Ehrin confirms the finale contains a "little bit of everything" "Bates" fans have come to expect from the series: twists, turns, sex, violence, suspense and dark humor. And yes, a peek into Norma's past, "You'll learn a little more about Norma and what makes Norma Norma, in kind of a profound way," Ehrin says.

And how does Vera Farmiga -- whose brilliant portrayal of Norma has been the standout of a very fun first season -- feel about the revelations? »

“Game of Thrones”: Angry Birds

20 May 2013 7:49 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

This week the sisters were doing it for themselves – just don’t tell Cersei! She’ll cut you. Also: someone tell ToriAmosandre that leeches are only acceptable foreplay after the third date. Manners, girl!

Arya (Maisie Williams) awakens looking at a rock. She picks it up (revealing that she is seriously overdue for a mani) and hauls it over to where The Hound (Rory McCann) is sleeping. He tells her to go ahead – but if she doesn’t kill him, he’ll break both her paws.

Turns out The Hound is a great manny! He puts her on the horse with him, tries to feed her, and says that she’s lucky he has no interest in raping and killing her – and even reveals that he saved Sansa from a similar fate. Arya’s all, “Get. Out.” He also tells her that he’s taking her to her mom and brother, »

Bates Motel Interviews, Scoop: More Family Members on the Way?

13 May 2013 6:30 AM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

It's been one wild ride thus far on season one of A&E's Bates Motel, but it seems the next two episodes are going to throw us all for more than a few surprise loops.

The successful freshman series, already renewed by the network, was featured at a screening and Q&A that was moderated by Shawn Ryan (creator of The Shield and Terriers), who told me during the red carpet that he's a big fan of the series.

In the following exclusive interview, cast members Vera Farmiga, Freddie Highmore, Nestor Carbonell, Max Thieriot and Nicola Peltz - as well as Executive Producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin - stopped to chat with me about what to expect in the concluding hours, while also offering about how we may meet more Bates family members in the second season...

Carlton Cuse At ‘Bates Motel’ Panel: “We Pretty Much Ripped Off ‘Twin Peaks’”

10 May 2013 10:25 PM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Diane Haithman is a Deadline contributor. During a Bates Motel panel discussion Friday, Carlton Cuse was blunt about borrowing from a classic. No, not Hitchcock’s Psycho; TV’s Twin Peaks. “We pretty much ripped off Twin Peaks,” joked Cuse, co-executive produces the A&E series with Kerry Ehrin, in response to a question about the similarities from panel moderator Shawn Ryan. “If you wanted to get that confession, the answer is yes. I loved that show. They only did 30 episodes. Kerry and I thought we’d do the 70 that are missing.” Cuse appeared on the Paley Center panel “Inside Bates Motel: Reimagining A Cinema Icon” with Ehrin, Vera Farmiga (who portrays Norma Bates), Freddie Highmore (Norman), Max Thieriot (Norman’s half-brother Dylan), Nicola Peltz (popular teen Bradley Martin) and Nestor Carbonell (Sheriff Alex Romero). Bates Motel episode 8 review: A Boy And His Dog

8 May 2013 3:34 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Review Michael Noble 8 May 2013 - 10:00

Norman discovers a new hobby in this week's Bates Motel, the art of taxidermy. Here's Michael's review of A Boy and his Dog...

This review contains spoilers.

1.8 A Boy and his Dog

Taxidermy. A bizarre art, but rather useful in its own way. It’s nice that Norman has found a hobby that can occupy his time, but there’s a grim destination for his new skill. As we saw man’s best friend, guts pulled out on Mr Decody’s table, it’s difficult not to see the potential for the same treatment of a boy’s best friend. If this show is intent on dovetailing with the 1960 movie, then there’s likely to be some rather hideous taxidermy taking place sometime in the future. At least Norman will have time to learn how to do it properly.

Deconstructing 'Bates Motel': Kerry Ehrin on Romero's Stunner, Norma's First Guest

[Warning: This story contains spoilers from Monday's "The Man in Number 9" episode of Bates Motel.] Following last week's heart-stopping (literally!) episode of Bates Motel, Norma, Norman and Dylan were left to explain Shelby's death to Romero. During the hour, Norma (Vera Farmiga) explains everything to Romero (Nestor Carbonell) -- what happened with Shelby as well as her role in Keith's slaying. In a twist, Romero doesn't arrest anyone and instead gives the Bates family a new story of what transpired in which he stars as the hero, much to Dylan's (Max Thieriot) chagrin. "Bates Motel" Recap: The New Norman

9 April 2013 10:06 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Confession: I'm getting into this show. Dark, intriguing, a little ridiculous, and everyone in its stagnant, creaky universe is probably insane! Perfect. Here are the five most notable moments from episode four.

1. I don't think I'm ready for this Freddie.

The internet seems to be undecided about Freddie Highmore's performance as Norman Bates, Hitchcock's most famous villain to grow up addicted to hand-me-down sweaters, apparently. But you can't really argue the fact that Highmore really sells on the crazy. During his best moments, Highmore hyperventilates, unhinges, and surges with weird rage, outperforming even Vera Farmiga's best scenes (though, to be fair, she hasn't been given any powerful personal moments yet). At the opening of Monday's show, Highmore escaped from Det. Shelby's basement, where he stumbled upon one of those famous Chinese sex slaves we keep hearing about. Last week's episode made it seem like Norman was trapped in »
