Chicago – The Gen Art Film Festival here had red carpet events last week for two movie premieres, “(500) Days of Summer” with star Joseph Gordon-Levitt and director Marc Webb, plus “Mercy” with star and writer Scott Caan.
HollywoodChicago.com was there for both events and scored some Q&A with the principle architects of both films.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lead Actor, “(500) Days of Summer”
The child actor favorite of “Third Rock from the Sun” is all grown up and is making a splash in the independent and now mainstream film world. Following stellar performances in “Brick” (2005) and “The Lookout” (2007), Gordon-Levitt is excellent in his latest, a relationship comedy directed by Marc Webb. Look also for G-l in this summer’s “G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra”.

Finally, a little treat from HBO has arrived for the new season of "Entourage". A clip is released to expose the hectic and glamorous scene where a red carpet premiere for Vince's new movie "Gatsby" is held.
Coming to the network on July 12, the sixth season begins with an episode called "Drive". Vince is back in the fast lane, preparing for his driving test and an appearance with Jay Leno to promote the premiere of "Gatsby," directed by Martin Scorsese.
Meanwhile, with a nudge from Sloan, Eric considers moving into his own house, but worries about the impact on Vince and the gang. Looking for career advancement, Lloyd confronts Ari with an ultimatum, which Ari counters with a proposition of his own.
The sixth season of "Entourage" will particularly be a star-studded fiesta. Extracted from on-location shootings are the news about guest star appearances by Zac Efron, Kanye West, 50 Cent,

You can bring a 90s football drama home in a new DVD edition or, for the first time, on Blu-ray this September. Varsity Blues will be released on a new Deluxe Edition DVD and debut on Blu-ray on September 15. We don't have any pricing details as of yet, but you can take a look at the cover art and the special features below. The film stars James Van Der Beek, Paul Walker, Scott Caan, Jon Voight and Ali Larter.
James Van Der Beek leads the action in this exciting, funny coming-of-age story about a small-town high schooler confronting the pressures and temptations of gridiron glory. At first, backup quarterback Jonathan "Mox" Moxom (Van Der Beek) is nowhere close to being a football star. He's perfectly content to stay on the bench and out of the win-at-all-cost strategies of coach Bud Kilmer (Jon Voight in a powerful performance). But when the starting quarterback is injured,

Stop me if you've heard this one before. A womanizing cad doesn't believe in true love, even though he makes his living writing novels about it. He sleeps with one beautiful woman after another, never getting attached, always pleased when the women leave before he wakes up in the morning. But his whole world is turned upside-down when, out of nowhere, he actually falls in love with one of them.
Yes, it's the ol' "education of a douchebag" story, going by the title Mercy this time around and starring Scott Caan, who also wrote the screenplay. (It's actually his third script; he directed the other two himself, and the first, Dallas 362, won the jury prize at CineVegas in 2003.) One is tempted to find autobiographical elements in Caan's swaggering character, especially since his real-life father, James Caan, plays his dad in the movie, but I don't know if that's accurate.

It looks like William Fichtner is going to go from chasing down convicts to chasing the boys from HBO's Entourage. The veteran actor is set to join the sixth season of Entourage in a multi-episode arc. He will play Phil Yagoda, a slick TV producer who wants to enlist Johnny Drama in the remake of his 1990s teen show. Brothers and Sisters actor Matt Letscher will also join, and will oversee the new TV series. Also joining for an arc is Scott Caan, a talent manager with tough talk that will become a nuisance for Eric this season. It seems as if the approach is to be bigger and better than ever this time around. However, I do hope that the show is able to focus this season and is not adding all these stars just for the sake of getting them on-screen. Entourage starts back up on July 12th at 10:30pm.

More boys are strolling into town as the list of recurring characters expands yet again for the upcoming season of HBO’s original series, Entourage. Joining the cast is Matt Letscher, William Fichnter & Scott Caan to strut it out along the streets of Hollywood.
Yeah, he's definitely ready to mess up E.
“Eli Stone” alum Letscher plays Dan Coakley, a handsome, arrogant TV studio executive who oversees Drama’s (Kevin Dillon) TV series. ”Prison Break” co-star Fichtner plays Phil Yagoda, a slick TV producer who had a hit teen series in the 1990s and is trying to remake it with Drama. Scott Caan, best known for his role in the “Ocean’s Eleven” franchise, plays Scotty Lavin, a cocky and highly competitive manager who acts tough and trash talks to cover up how insecure he is and sees E (Kevin Connolly) as a threat. Despite the recession, "Entourage" is not planning a shortage of guest stars when it enters the sixth season next month. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Letscher, William Fichtner and Scott Caan will be involved in a multi-episode arc.
Letscher plays a character named Dan Coakley who is described as handsome but arrogant TV studio executive who oversees Johnny Drama's TV series. The actor may be familiar as Nathan Stone on ABC's "Eli Stone" before the show got canceled.
Meanwhile, Fichtner aka the Alexander Mahone of "Prison Break", will play a slick TV producer named Phil Yagoda. His character had a hit teen series in the 1990s and is trying to remake it with Drama.
For Caan, this would be one of his early TV appearances. The actor who is known to play Turk Malloy in "Ocean's Eleven" and its two sequels, will take the role of Scotty Lavin. Scotty

The latest round of casting news finds Michelle Trachtenberg, Scott Caan and Josh Charles landing key pilot leads on NBC, Fox and CBS. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Trachtenberg will play one of three central nurses on NBC's "Mercy." The trade tells us that Trachtenberg's character is "tragically unhip." The "Harriet the Spy" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" will reprise her role as uber-bitchy Georgina on "Gossip Girl" later this spring. Over on Fox, Scott Caan ("Ocean's 11") will top the ensemble of the Brett Ratner-directed comedy "Cop House." The pilot is set around a halfway house for damaged cops, with...

Scott Caan and Colin Farrell in American Outlaws
Photo: Warner Bros. I can guess what you must be thinking. A cowboy movie? With Colin Farrell? Yes, you're right. It was an unknown Irishman playing a classic American cowboy--and Jesse James, to boot. It's everything wrong, and perhaps that's why, seven years ago when I first heard about it, I was immediately intrigued. Unless watching gay cowboys who are in love with each other, I've never been that much of a Western fan. I'm not saying that to immediately discredit any words I might share about this particular Western (though that might be the result). I'm saying it, in fact, to bolster the film's credibility. It didn't spin itself as an historical drama. It's a popcorn flick with some horses thrown in, and if you think of it that way, you're already saddled up for a smoother ride. But if you need further convincing,
