Actress Pell James

Pell James Takes A Hot Rod To The Dark Side In Surveillance

By

Alex Simon

Virginia native Pell James hit the ground running following graduation from Nyu’s drama school in 1999, mixing TV and stage work, then landing her first high-profile part in 2005’s The King, co-starring with Gael Garcia Bernal and William Hurt. Since then, James also made impressive turns in Jim Jarmusch’s Broken Flowers and David Fincher’s Zodiac, in one of the film’s most unsettling scenes, as one of the notorious Bay area killer’s victims.

Pell James shines in an entirely new light as Bobbi, a drug-addicted drifter who comes face-to-face with evil incarnate in Jennifer Lynch’s Surveillance, a smashingly original thriller hitting theaters June 26 from Magnet Releasing. She also appears in Shrink, a tableaux-like satire of life in L.A., starring Kevin Spacey, which arrives from Lions Gate on

'Shrink' Trailer Debuts

3 June 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | From CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news

The trailer for the upcoming drama Shrink, starring Kevin Spacey, has arrived online. Click on the Trailer tab above to watch it right here.

Jonas Pate's Shrink is a striking, fast-paced exposé of the "other" Hollywood, featuring folks living outside their comfort zone and the people who put them there. Henry Carter (Kevin Spacey) is a psychiatrist with an A-list clientele, including a once-famous actress (Saffron Burrows), an insecure young writer (Mark Webber), and a comically obsessive-compulsive superagent (Dallas Roberts).

Henry is not in a good place, however. He has been asked to take his first pro bono case, a troubled teenage girl from a neighborhood far from the Hollywood hills. Considering his present state of mind, is he ready for the real-life troubles of a young woman who loves the world of movies he has become so jaded by?

At its core, Shrink is a study of control

Trailer - Kevin Spacey in 'Shrink'

3 June 2009 1:38 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

There's a new trailer for Shrink, which stars Kevin Spacey as a psychiatrist to the stars undergoing a bit of a mental health crisis himself. It's looks like a nice fit for Spacey, who hasn't really found good material for himself in a lead role since before Beyond the Sea.

Spacey's also producing this film through Trigger Street, which finally found some hits in 2008 with 21 and the HBO Emmy-winner, Recount. But because it doesn't have huge studio backing, the cast is not full of big names; Keke Palmer and Saffron Burrows are probably the most notable other cast members, at least by the strength of their credits.

The film has that quintessential Los Angeles look, and while I have a lot of problems with Los Angeles, they only surface when I'm driving there. So kudos on the sun-drenched cinematography, which adds a little irony to the storm clouds brewing in everyone's story here.

Kevin Spacey-Starring 'Shrink' Gets Trailer

2 June 2009 8:30 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

What if the one person who is counted by others to hold them together is barely holding it together himself? In a brand new trailer of "Shrink" outed via Apple, Henry Carter portrayed by Academy Award-winning Kevin Spacey is introduced as the sought-after Hollywood psychiatrist, whose clients include a once-famous actress, an insecure young writer and a comically obsessive-compulsive superagent.

But, having a list of A-list clients doesn't mean that he is in a good place. Unable to cope with a recent personal tragedy, he turns into a pothead with no concern for his appearance. As a sense of inability to help his patients creeps into his mind, he is asked to take on his first pro-bono case. Now, he has to deal with the real-life troubles of a troubled teenage girl who loves the world of movies he has become so jaded by.

Exclusive: 'Shrink' Poster Premiere!

1 June 2009 1:45 PM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

Click image below to view full poster

Cinematical has just received this exclusive poster for Shrink, which premiered at this past Sundance Film Festival to some pretty great buzz. Starring Kevin Spacey, Saffron Burrows, Keke Palmer, Mark Webber, Dallas Roberts and Robin Williams, Shrink follows "a psychiatrist (Spacey) whose boutique L.A. office, A-list clientele and best-selling pop psychology books form a thin layer of respectability over his ruined personal life, insurmountable grief, serious pot problem and a host of other crises," so says James Rocchi, who covered the film for Cinematical during Sundance and interviewed its star, Mr. Kevin Spacey.

Reminiscent of his character from American Beauty, Spacey (as the celebrity shrink-turned-pothead) delivers a performance here that's not to be missed, and the supporting cast takes what could've been another film about annoying egotistical Hollywood types from Los Angeles and turns it into one that's funny, serious, sweet, sincere and a little bit sideways.

Boston Legal: Final Season and Last Episode Come to DVD

5 May 2009 10:06 AM, PDT | From TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news

After five seasons on ABC, court adjourned for Boston Legal last December. An often controversial and outlandish legal drama, the series revolves around Alan Shore (James Spader), Denny Crane (William Shatner), Shirley Schmidt (Candice Bergen), and other legal eagles from Boston's Crane Poole and Schmidt.

Other prominent castmembers have included Rene Auberjonois, Mark Valley, Julie Bowen, Christian Clemenson, Gary Anthony Williams, John Larroquette, Tara Summers, Henry Gibson, Constance Zimmer, Monica Potter, Rhona Mitra, Saffron Burrows, Meredith Eaton, Taraji P. Henson, Justin Mentell, Ryan Michelle Bathe, Craig Bierko, Lake Bell, Jill Brennan, Marisa Coughlan, Shelley Berman, Michael Ensign, and Roma Maffia.

Creator David E. Kelley knew that this would be the final season so he decided to end the show with 13 of the craziest and emotionally charged episodes in the series' history. In a nice tip of the hat to previous seasons, characters played by Auberjonois, Bowen, Larry Miller and Betty White

Trailer for 'Silent Venom' - Sex and the single female Scientist

30 April 2009 6:00 PM, PDT | From Pretty/Scary | See recent pretty-scary news

Clearly, I think we can all agree the greatest horror movie cliche ever created is the young, hot, sexy female scientist, aged 27 (who has been the best in her field for 25 years) who must join forces with the local sherrif/game warden/army captain to fight a vicious giant snake/reptile/sasquatch/gorgon before it destroys humanity. Need examples? Tara Reid as Aline Cedrac in Alone in the Dark (2005), Robin Riker as Marisa Kendall in Alligator (1980) and Saffron Burrows as Dr. Susan McCallister in Deep Blue Sea (1999). I could go on. But then I couldn't tell you about Krista Allen as Dr. Andrea Swanson, snake-studyer, in the new straight-to-dvd miracle Silent Venom about - you guessed it! - giant deadly scary snakes. watch the trailer... read more

Donald Sutherland directed toward CBS' 'Eastmans'

26 March 2009 12:01 AM, PDT | From Hitfix.com | See recent Hitfix news

Donald Sutherland as the patriarch of a wealthy, intelligent, eccentric family? That sounds so crazy it just might work! According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Dirty Sexy Money" star has been cast as the family patriarch in CBS' "The Eastmans," about a dysfunctional family of doctors.  The trade says that Sutherland's character is a roguish, but distinguished cardiologist. Sutherland joins David Wilson Barnes, Saffron Burrows, Gaby Hoffman and Jesse Bradford in the drama. Most recently seen as Tripp Darling on ABC's not-yet-cancelled-but-probably-not-coming-back "Dirty Sexy Money," Sutherland's other recent TV credits include ABC's "Commander in Chief." On the big screen, the "Klute"...

Northam Signs On To Play TV Doctor

10 March 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Jeremy Northam has become the latest British star to sign up to front a U.S. TV drama series - he'll play a trauma ward doctor in a new CBS drama.

Following in the footsteps of Hugh Laurie and Tim Roth, who currently front hit shows House and Lie To Me, the Gosford Park star will play an "enigmatic" medic in Miami Trauma, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

If the pilot is a hit, it won't be Northam's first success on U.S. TV - he played Dean Martin in TV movie Martin & Lewis and also portrayed Sir Thomas More in period drama The Tudors.

Another British star who is also set to get medical on U.S. TV screens is Saffron Burrows, who has signed on to star in The Eastmans, a drama about a "complicated family of doctors."

She'll play a medic trying find a cure for autism.

Jeremy Northam, Saffron Burrows land CBS pilot leads

10 March 2009 1:52 PM, PDT | From Hitfix.com | See recent Hitfix news

A total of eight actors have landed roles across a quartet of CBS pilots.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, Deanna Dunagan, Missy Pyle and Chris Parnell have been cast in comedy "Big D," Jeremy Northam has secured a lead in "Miami Trauma," Saffron Burrows, Jesse Bradford and Gaby Hoffmann will appear in "The Eastmans," while Matt Czuchry will co-star in "The Good Wife." "Miami Trauma" comes from Jerry Bruckheimer productions and centers around, predictably, a trauma center in Miami. Northam ("The Tudors," "Gosford Park") will play an enigmatic new doctor in the ward. "The Eastmans" focuses on a complicated family of...

Sundance Interview: Kevin Spacey of 'Shrink'

22 January 2009 4:02 PM, PST | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

In Shrink, screening in the Premiere section at the Sundance Film Festival, Kevin Spacey plays a psychiatrist whose boutique L.A. office, A-list clientele and best-selling pop psychology books form a thin layer of respectability over his ruined personal life, insurmountable grief, serious pot problem and a host of other crises. Spacey developed the film with his Trigger Street production company, with Jonas Pate directing Thomas Moffet's script, and Spacey part of an ensemble cast that includes Robin Williams, Saffron Burrows, Mark Webber, Dallas Roberts and Keke Palmer. I asked Spacey if doing so many scenes revolving on just two people talking is an actor's dream, or an actor's nightmare: "As compared to? Explosions, and cars flying through the air? I think it's an actor's dream, and I also think it's an audience's dream; there's noting quite like being able to go to to a play or the cinema and
