Actress-turned-director Lori Petty makes her feature directorial debut with Poker House, a period drama set in 1976 that explores a typical day in the life of a decidedly atypical teen named Agnes (Jennifer Lawrence). Some folks have the luxury of living each day to the fullest, but for Agnes every day is a grueling struggle for survival; her mother (Selma Blair) is strung-out on drugs, her home has been overrun by degenerates, and her only father figure is a pimp. For Agnes and her two younger sisters this particular day will be marked by both tragedy and triumph, but which will resonate most in the days and weeks to follow? We recently met up with Petty, as well as her two leading ladies Selma Blair and Jennifer Lawrence, to chat about the making of this coming of age drama. I'm firmly on the record as being against Columbus Circle, entirely because it's a New York-set movie that's filming, cheekily, in L.A. Do the producers really think that by adding Beau Bridges to the cast, they can win me over? Nice try, guys. THR is reporting that Bridges has signed on to play Dr. Raymond Fontaine, a family friend who is the sole confident for reclusive heiress Abigail (Selma Blair), who gets wrapped up in a murder investigation next door.

Hearing about a mixture of Lori Petty and David Alan Grier immediately brings to mind the wonderful '90s, when Petty was the tough-as-nails Tank Girl in a post-apocalyptic water-hungry world and Grier was one of the big names of In Living Color. But now the two have teamed up, and it's not for some quirky bit of comedy, but rather a super-heavy drama that's finally going to hit the big screen.
Variety reports that Phase 4 Films has picked up the U.S. rights to The Poker House, which just so happens to be Petty's directorial debut from a script she wrote with Grier. The Living Color alum stars with Selma Blair and Jennifer Lawrence in the story which can, simply and vaguely, be described as "a portrait of life in a poor small town in Iowa in 1976," as Variety says. But a little more specifically, it's the story of

I get all excited when I see that something is filming in my neighborhood. Yes, I live in Manhattan, where not a day goes by without a film shoot, but there's still a joy in seeing the place where you ride your bike on the big screen. So the new thriller Columbus Circle, with its story about an upscale Manhattan apartment building and title referring to the location of my Whole Foods, sounds like exactly the kind of set I will complain about for months when it blocks traffic, and then be happy to see on the screen. Except that it's filming in Los Angeles. And that's no fun at all. So now it's up to the cast-- Selma Blair, Amy Smart, Jason Lee, Giovanni Ribisi and Kevin Pollak-- to make the whole thing worth watching. THR writes that Blair will play a reclusive heiress wrapped up in a

Jessica Alba made the trek from La to Rome for Bulgari's "Between Eternity And History" bash last night. She was joined by Ginnifer Goodwin, who ditched her recent racy look for something more demure, as well as Selma Blair and Chloe Sevigny. Jason Lewis was the lone male celebrity on the red carpet, as he continues making the rounds on the party scene before likely getting to work on the next Sex and the City movie. They were only one country away from all the star-studded action going down in Cannes, but it seems like Jason and the ladies managed to have a fun night among the Bulgari baubles. After the stunning red carpet, many of the fashionable stars of the Costume Institute Gala headed over to an afterparty hosted by Marc Jacobs at the Monkey Bar in NYC last night. Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake changed out of their formal wear into something more playful to party the night away. Kate Hudson, Liv Tyler, Kate Bosworth, Agyness Deyn and Stella McCartney all crammed into the backseat of a car, staying together after walking the red carpet. It was hard to miss Madonna in her eye-catching outfit as she went home on the arm of Jesus Luz. Josh Hartnett joined in on the festivities looking dashing in his tux, and even Naomi Campbell came out to play despite boycotting the gala. The Met's Costume Institute Gala did not disappoint last night in NYC, bringing us one of the most star-studded red carpets of the year. The theme was "Model as Muse," which apparently brought out some interesting fashion choices. Kate Moss and Marc Jacobs were two of the hosts and had all eyes on them when they arrived first and her outfit included a turban. Justin Timberlake was also the man of the evening with Jessica Biel on his arm. Rihanna switched it up for her first red carpet appearance in months and still looked sexy in her dramatic menswear. Josh Jackson and Diane Kruger can do no wrong in our eyes so it was not a surprise that they're perfectly put together. Something must have gotten into the Gossip Girl ladies because they both went with bold choices - Blake slicked down her hair and showed off a long sexy

Storms The Walls Of Castle

Editor's Note: The following article appears in the April issue of Venice Magazine.
Actress Stana Katic is on a roll. After scoring supporting roles in two of last year’s highest-profile films, Quantum of Solace and The Spirit, the statuesque Canadian stunner landed the female lead in ABC’s new police drama/romantic comedy Castle, playing Detective Kate Beckett, a tough-as-nails NYPD officer who finds herself with the regrettable assignment of allowing cocky, best-selling crime novelist Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) to shadow her for research on his next book. Not only does she find that Castle’s creative instincts for the criminal mind help her solve some of the city’s most challenging murders, she finds her tough exterior melting under Castle’s considerable charms. The show airs Monday nights on ABC.

Filmmakers always talk about how awkward it is filming sex scenes. Well guess what? Sometimes it's Equally as awkward watching them!
