Which Marvel movies pass the Bechdel Test?

19 July 2014 2:00 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

"This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is Thor. This is the Thor of the Marvel Universe." So ran this week's statement from Marvel Comics, announcing that hammer-wielding Norse god Thor will be female in a new comic series. While a number of reactions from fans and industry folk have been dead on, others have been predictably hostile.

Coupled with the imminent release of Guardians of the Galaxy, which is the first Marvel Studios movie to date with a female screenwriter, this announcement has reignited an ever-brewing debate about women in superhero movies. More to the point, the lack thereof.

After Black Widow proved to be more or less second lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier earlier this year, many were hoping that Marvel would finally bite the bullet and announce a standalone movie for Scarlett Johansson as part of their Phase Three plans. »

Watch: Idris Elba Stars In Intense Thriller ‘No Good Deed’

14 June 2014 2:49 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Idris Elba seems to effortlessly switch between uber-cool and incredibly intense in an instant and this first trailer for No Good Deed is no exception.

Directed by Luther‘s Sam Miller, this thriller stars Elba as a dangerous killer convict on the run and eventually finds his way into the house of Terri (Taraji P. Henson) and her young daughter. They ramp up the tension and bring out all the flickering thriller/horror tricks for this first insight and although – once again – I think it shows far too much in quick snippets, with both Elba and Henson looking strong, and a Panic Room vibe, this could be one to watch out for.

No Good Deed also stars Leslie Bibb, Kate del Castillo, Kelly O’Neal and Henry Simmons. It opens in the UK on October 31st (Halloween-thriller-fest) and in the USA on September 12th, check it out:

No Good Deed Trailer: Idris Elba Goes Bad as a Home Invader

13 June 2014 2:14 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Screen Gems has released the first No Good Deed trailer for director Sam Miller’s (Luther) upcoming thriller.  The film stars Idris Elba as an escaped convict with a dangerous past who makes his way into the home of a devoted wife (Taraji P. Henson) and her young children.  The pic looks to be a pretty disturbing home invasion thriller, maybe because Elba is just so damn likable in most of his other roles.  Here, though, Elba appears to be playing a character with very sinister intentions.  Stringer Bell this is not. No Good Deed Trailer Teaches Us To Never Let Idris Elba In

13 June 2014 8:20 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

After playing hard-boiled cop John Luther on the absolutely brilliant BBC series Luther, Idris Elba is stepping on the other side of the law for his next movie role, in this fall’s thriller No Good Deed (not to be confused with the plainly awful 2003 Samuel L. Jackson/Milla Jovovich crime thriller of the same name). Elba stars as a dangerous killer who, after staging a jailbreak, invades the home of a young mother (Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson) and threatens both her and her children. The mother, a District Attorney, is forced to pick up arms to defend herself against the intimidating intruder.

We’ve got the first trailer for the film today, and though it looks quite predictable, Elba’s presence may be enough to get me into the theater. He rarely goes for psycho roles, opting instead to play charismatic heroes (in films like Pacific Rim and »

Takashi Shimizu’s 7500 Opened Somewhere on Planet Earth

A few years have passed since myself and a handful of genre colleagues ventured to the CBS lot in Studio City for a set visit to Takashi Shimizu's 7500 - the ghost story-on-a-plane thriller. And by "few years" I mean three. Cameras rolled in 2011 with Ryan Kwanten, Amy Smart, Leslie Bibb, Nicky Whelan and Alex Frost starring. And yet, we've haven't see the film released domestically. There have been rumors over the years pointing to false release dates. Hell, one theater here in Los Angeles accidentally listed it on its website, but when you went to buy tickets it directed you to another film.
