Interview: ‘30 Rock’ Star Kevin ‘Dot Com’ Brown Embraces Career in Comedy

25 May 2012 6:46 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – While some stand-up comics shield themselves with an ironic, larger-than-life persona, Kevin “Dot Com” Brown’s approach is more conversational. He mines the humor in his own life while developing a genial rapport with the audience. Some may still find him to be larger than life, but that would most likely be due to his formidable size.

After sharpening his acting chops on stage and screen, Brown got his big break when he was cast as “Dot Com,” the stage-trained actor in Tracy Morgan’s entourage on Tina Fey’s hit NBC sitcom, “30 Rock.” Shortly after Brown’s special appearance at April’s C2E2 convention, Hollywood Chicago spoke with him about his accidental entry into show business, his longtime friendship with Tracy Morgan and how his background as a bodyguard helped him land movie roles.

3 May 2012 4:34 PM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Following Debmar-Mercury’s success with the Tyler Perry sitcoms House Of Payne and Meet The Browns and Ice Cube’s Are We There Yet?, another syndication player is trying their hand at the model of accelerated production of urban comedy series for a run in broadcast syndication. Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios has just started filming Mr. Box Office, a pilot for a multi-camera comedy series starring actor/comedian Bill Bellamy. Co-starring in the project, which is aiming at producing a minimum of 104 episodes over two years, are Saturday Night Live alum Tim Meadows, Vivica A. Fox (Independence Day), former NBA star/actor Rick Fox, Keshia Knight Pulliam (Cosby), Jon Lovitz (SNL) and Gary Busey. Allen would not discuss his plans for the project but I sources indicate that Entertainment Studios has teamed on it with Tribune Entertainment and, in success, the show would air on the CW-affiliated stations through Tribune, »
