As 2009 comes to a close, we take a look back at some of the people and events that made this the Best. Lesbian. Decade. Ever. in pop culture.

Luckily for all of us, there was far more information to have mentioned from the last ten years than we could have included in this brief survey. That's why our lists for each year are not intended to be exhaustive, but are instead snapshots of different memorable moments that included the representation of lesbians and bisexual women in film, television, music, literature, comics, sports and the Internet since the year 2000.

Banks Branded 'Difficult To Work For'

31 December 2009 4:16 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Tyra Banks is facing a backlash from disgruntled former employees after announcing the end of her U.S. talk show - the ex-supermodel has been reportedly branded "difficult" and "a diva" by TV insiders.

The catwalk queen-turned-daytime talk show host revealed earlier this week (begs28Dec09) that the fifth cycle of her The Tyra Banks Show will be the last after five years and two Daytime Emmy Awards.

The former Sports Illustrated pin-up is planning to concentrate on developing shows and films under her Bankable Studios production company.

But the star, who also hosts the hugely popular America's Next Top Model series, isn't such a hit with her staff - with a show source telling the New York Daily News that working for Banks could be a tough task.

The insider tells the publication, "There had been a high turnover of employees for years... (it's) pretty difficult to work for Tyra. She and the higher-ups on the production staff could be extremely brutal. She really is a diva.

"When the show moved from L.A. to New York, several staffers weren't even directly told about the change. They heard through the grapevine it was going to move locations. Even so, a lot of those people gave up their lives on the West Coast so they could continue working for the show. Now they're out of luck." »

31 December 2009 2:19 AM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Toward the end of the year, TV shows that are doing well in rating have started getting the pick-up while those that struggle are given the ax. That way, networks would be able to determine which shows would return in midseason and which new shows should replace the canceled ones. Moreover, winners from reality shows such as "Survivor", "Top Chef" and "The Biggest Loser" begin to reveal themselves.

David Letterman who usually exposed other celebrities' scandal and have them explain on his show chose to do one of his own. He shocked both his team and the audience when he said during his monologue that he is a victim of extortion due to his affair with one of the female staff of the show. He apologized to wife Regina Lasko four days later, telling the audience that Lasko was deeply "hurt" by his affair confession.

Tyra Banks 'really is a diva?' Color us stunned.

30 December 2009 10:23 AM, PST | Zap2It - The Dish Rag | See recent Zap2It - The Dish Rag news »

The New York Daily News has quotes from several anonymous former staff members from "The Tyra Show" regarding what it's like working with Ms. Banks. The higher-ups say working with Tyra Banks was fine. The underlings say Tyra "could be extremely brutal."

What's that "Harry Potter" quote? Oh yeah... "If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals."

One former staffer had this to say:

There had been high turnover of employees for years. [Tyra] and the higher-ups on the production staff could be extremely brutal. She really is a diva.

Tyra made headlines Monday (Dec. 28) when she announced that her talk show "The Tyra Show" would be ending in 2010 after five years of being on the air. Apparently this came as news to many staff members, as Tyra told the media before she even told those involved with her show. »
