Talk about peaking at the right time: Carlito Olivero, Paulina Rubio's last remaining contestant in the Boys category, had his best night ever during "The X Factor" semifinals on Wednesday night (Dec. 11). He's been an underdog throughout the entire competition, but during his performances of Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" and Marc Anthony's "I Need to Know" he proved that he deserves his slot in the final four.
"If there was ever a time to peak and get to that level it was the semifinals. Nobody here wanted to come off that stage knowing it was maybe one of the last times we performed on that stage and knowing we could have performed better," Olivero tells Zap2it backstage after the show. "I feel like America has had my back this whole competition and I have been the underdog and fought for survival the whole way. Being in the »
Oh, X Factor, always swimming against the tide. The producers didn't take the hint when The Voice wisely pared down to a one-hour performance show this week. So, lucky viewers were treated to three rounds of performances by the top four. The jam-packed format left no room for a guest performer, but there was plenty of excitement to fill the two-hour running time without any extra fluff. Carlito Olivero impressed the judges with his version of "Boyfriend" that was perfectly suited for his swooning fans. His mentor, Paulina Rubio, selected Marc Anthony's "I Need To Know" as his last attempt to snag

I’ve been a real Negative Nancy with my recapping of The X Factor throughout Season 3, and dare I say, I’m starting to feel a little bit bad about it.
Oh, sure, I could blame my lousy attitude on the hysterical hype over Restless Road, three guys whose jeans are guaranteed to be tighter than their harmonies. Or I could point a finger at Paulina “Words: In no particular order!”* Rubio, the least effective singing-competition panelist since Paula Abdul woke up in the midst of Season 7 Top 4 performance night, looked at her producer-generated notes, and began critiquing »
