How A-List Talent Changed the Face of Reality TV

23 September 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Fourteen years ago, the world was introduced to an unfamiliar host on a new reality show: Ryan Seacrest on “American Idol.”

Today, “American Idol” has sung its last tune and Seacrest is a global phenomenon. But in 2016, would he have even gotten his shot at fame?

In the highly competitive era of peak TV, the Big Four are taking fewer risks on unknown talent when it comes to unscripted programming, placing all their bets on A-listers.

The reality show lineup of the 2016-17 season is a who’s-who of superstars. Arnold Schwarzenegger is taking over you-know-who’s seat on “The New Celebrity Apprentice”; Alec Baldwin is hosting “Match Game”; Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys are spinning around in “The Voice’s” red chairs; Michael Strahan is hosting “$100,000 Pyramid”; Simon Cowell returned to the States with “America’s Got Talent”; and Steve Harvey is the face of three series with two more on the way.

6 September 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

On September 6, 1968, Eric Clapton joined The Beatles for a day. It was for the recording of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” The George Harrison-penned song now famously features lead guitar by Clapton, though he wasn’t officially credited on The White Album where the song appeared. The Beatles had made a couple attempts to record “Guitar Gently Weeps” earlier that year, in July and also an electric version on September 5. None of those arrangements were quite coming together. “They weren’t taking it seriously,” Harrison later said of his bandmates. There was already a great deal of of conflict among the group by this point. The next day, Harrison was giving Clapton a ride from Surrey to London, and he asked Clapton to play on the track. Clapton at first balked at the idea, saying “Nobody [else] ever plays on the Beatles’ records.” But he eventually agreed to join the »

In the majority of photos of the singer throughout the evening, she's got her fingers in her eyes and her hand over most of her face. Whether she was posing with Mac in her seat or snapping photos with Kim Kardashian and the Olympic gymnastics team, Ariana's hand was firmly placed over her mouth. Did she have bad breath? »

Ariana Grande Is Being Sued For Plagiarism

24 August 2016 11:10 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

You can now add Ariana Grande to the list of artists who have been sued for song plagiarism as of late. Songwriter and producer Alex Greggs is hitting Grande and producer David Guetta with a lawsuit over their track “One Last Time,” claiming that it’s too similar to the song he wrote for Skye Stevens, “Takes All Night.”

According to TMZ, the court filings note that the biggest similarity between the two cuts is the chorus. “One Last Time,” a single coming off Grande’s 2014 record, My Everything, was a fairly successful hit. The song peaked at number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and reached as high six on the Mainstream Top 40. Greggs also states that music and lyrics are copied as well, most specifically, “take(s) [or taking] you home.”

Greggs himself has had his fair share of success, too. The songwriter is known for working with and remixing »
