Adam Lambert Defends His Glittery Image: The MTV News Quote Of The Day

1 hour ago | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

"People want to talk about whether I have rock cred, whether I'm selling out, the theatricality, the gay stuff. ... Chill out! And just enjoy yourself. It's not that deep. Sometimes it is deep. Some of the songs on the album are. Sometimes it's just, 'This is hot, I feel good, this song makes me want to go get a drink and flirt with somebody and have a good time.' Good energy is just as credible as the cathartic, dark, heavy stuff. It's just as important!"

-"American Idol" runner-up and budding glam icon Adam Lambert, who spoke to The Los Angeles Times about his debut album, his ever-evolving image and the public reaction to his work outside of "Idol." Lambert's first record For Your Entertainment drops in a few weeks, but he has already found himself defending his aesthetic choices — including his embrace of traditionally theatrical tropes. Adam Lambert Says He's More Like Beyonce Than Daughtry

'American Idol' runner-up says 'most female pop stars right now' are as influenced by musical theater as he is.

Adam Lambert clearly likes to have fun with his image. He loves the glamorous worlds of rock and roll and disco. He's not afraid to wear makeup and glitter. Plus, he likes to poke fun at people's perceptions of him, as he does on the kitschy cover for his forthcoming debut album, For Your Entertainment. But when it comes to his music, Lambert isn't shy about shedding his pop-star persona and singing about deeper emotions.

"The dress-up supports that; the fantasy element supports it. People want to talk about whether I have rock cred, whether I'm selling out, the theatricality, the gay stuff. ... Chill out! And just enjoy yourself," he told the Los Angeles Times. "It's not that deep. ... Sometimes it is deep. »

Let the rock-off begin! Just days after the track listing and 30-second samples of Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment were revealed, the tracks and talent roster for fellow "American Idol" alum Allison Iraheta's Just Like You have been unveiled. The list of familiar contributors to the album suggests that while Iraheta is digging into her rock roots, she's also seriously indulging her pop side as well.

Like Lambert, Iraheta tapped "Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi for some songwriting help for the LP, due out December 1. Kara penned "No One Else" with Pink (listed by her birth name, Alecia Moore) and Grammy-nominated producer/writer Greg Wells (Katy Perry, OneRepublic, Kelly Clarkson), who also contributed to Lambert's album.

Alan Cumming Is The Emcee For All Time

5 November 2009 7:08 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Is there any doubt that Burlesque is going to be the craziest movie of 2010? It's already got Cher and Christina Aguilera duking it out in the main roles, and Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell and Cam Gigandet, among others, as witnesses to the catfight. Now they've completed the crazy package: Alan Cumming is on board! Better yet, they seem to have brought him in essentially to reprise his Emcee role from Cabaret, which won him a Tony in 1998. Variety describes the role as "the club's gender-bending host and master of ceremonies," which again, is exactly like the Emcee. At least they know he'll be good at it. »

Diddy Celebrates His 40th Birthday

4 November 2009 11:12 AM, PST | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

If you happen to pass by Sean Combs, be sure to wish him a happy birthday, as the man better known as Diddy turns 40 years old today. While it's bizarre to think if Diddy as a guy in the depths of middle age, it's also odd to think that he isn't older. Diddy has been such a dominant, ubiquitous force in pop culture since the '90s that it's almost as if he has always been with us. There have been countless highs (smash hits like "It's All About the Benjamins," "I'll Be Missing You" and "Bad Boy for Life") and devastating lows (most notably the death of his friend the Notorious B.I.G.), but he has certainly changed the face of hip-hop and gave rise to the idea of diversification among pop stars. He's dabbled in fashion, fragrances, restaurants and alcohol, and his empire is constantly expanding.

It's casting notes time again. Alan Cumming has joined Steve Antin's Burlesque, about "an ambitious small-town girl with a big voice who finds herself at a neo-burlesque club." Christina Aguilera is the girl, Kristen Bell is the rival dancer, and Cumming is the gender-bending club Mc. So this is really a failsafe in case that Showgirls sequel falls through? Tinker Bell And The Lost Treasure – Blu-ray Review

30 October 2009 2:54 PM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

I’ll watch essentially anything The Mouse House churns out, within reason. Most of their live-action catalogue can be done without, but at the end of the day the Disney is that childhood friend you ultimately can’t turn your back to. I’ll even suffer through some Disney Channel schlock because my old friend and I go way, way back. For this reason, and because I’m in love with Disneyland, is why I chose to sit through Tinker Bell And The Lost Treasure. Quite honestly, I’d almost say I’m glad I did as the direct-to-dvd/Blu-ray movie turned out much better than expected.

The main reason this Tinker Bell adventure isn’t terrible is due in large part to the effort that’s on display. The writing isn’t particularly sharp, but the writers have turned in something that actually expands the mythology of Tink and Pixie Hollow. »

Project Runway: The Claws Come Out!

30 October 2009 5:37 AM, PDT | People.com - TV Watch | See recent People.com - TV Watch news »

Talk about a blast from the past! On Thursday's Project Runway, the six remaining designers came face to face with their winning designs -- except for Logan, who has never won a challenge -- and were asked to design a look they could pair with the outfit. Theoretically, it was an opportunity for everyone to shine, to revisit past glories and create something new and stunning. In reality, though, some of the designers produced ho-hum pieces while others seemed to rip each other off -- or as Irina (sort-of) diplomatically noted, there was a lot of "resemblances" in the workroom. Logan vs. Althea: Logan decided he needed to amp things up this week, so the designer bought 50 zippers from Mood which he decided to incorporate into his garment. His concept? Create a collar made out of said zippers -- only the idea wasn't so fresh. As Althea pointed out, she »

Priscilla Renea isn't the first artist to parlay YouTube fame into a music career, but she might be the savviest. Even though the 21-year-old Vero Beach, Florida, native is wrapping up work on her major label debut, Jukebox (due December 1), and has already scored a hit single with her Katy Perry-esque love-gone-wrong anthem "Dollhouse," even she can't believe how far she's come in such a short time.

"I got the majority of my fanbase from YouTube, because I was on there for a year and a half before anyone saw me from a label," said Renea, currently a featured artist on MTV's Discover & Download.

It all began in December 2006, around the time "Dreamgirls" came out and Justin Timberlake participated »

After the deadly-game song title, razor's-edge logo and barbed-wire wrap she wore on the cover of her "Russian Roulette" single, it wasn't unreasonable to expect that Rihanna's upcoming Rated R album would feature a similarly dangerous image.

But the grainy black-and-white cover shot that leaked Tuesday (October 27) finds the singer in a moody, contemplative pose reminiscent of outrageous 1980s avant-garde singer Grace Jones. Wearing what looks like a leather top, Rihanna is depicted with her hand covering her right eye, with each finger wrapped in an intricate set of rings that hug two knuckles.

The image for the album, due November 23, was shot by fashion photographer Ellen von Unwerth, who said Rihanna is "so beautiful, sweet and tough at the same time — and a pleasure to shoot," according to PopEater.com. Von Unwerth »
