In the spirit of Halloween '09, we're breaking out reviews (some new, some old) of some Fall Frights you may want to work into your monthly viewing.

Gotta love the Internet rumor-mongerers--now that Queen Of The Damned is hitting theaters and Jason X has a set release date in April, you have to wonder if any of those people feel chagrined for insisting the movies were going direct to video. Queen certainly doesn't feel like something that warrants small-screen consignment, especially on a visual level, as this is one of the lushest-looking horror films in recent memory. It's pretty lush in the dramatic department, too, at least in its first and more enjoyable half.
As most anyone who's been paying attention to the film's development knows, Queen is based not just on the novel of the title but also author Anne Rice's previous installment, The Vampire Lestat (onscreen, »

When the 15-year-old Aaliyah first appeared on the scene in 1994 with the smash hit "Back & Forth," she was already a confident, cocksure young woman with an incredible sense of melody and a penchant for deceptive sexuality. She seemed to debut fully formed, which is why it seemed like she was around for a lot longer than she actually was when she died tragically eight years ago at the age of 22. Aaliyah managed to be the bridge between two great R&B universes: The silky smoothness of R. Kelly's post-New Jack Swing groove (Kelly wrote and produced much of Aaliyah's debut album Age Ain't Nothing But a Number) and the futuristic stutter-funk of Timbaland (who treated Aaliyah like a muse and gave her some of his best beats, like "Are You That Somebody?"). In an era when R&B seemed destined to wallow in the rut created by stuff like K-Ci and JoJo, »

On the eighth anniversary of her untimely death, we look back on her accomplishments and wonder what might have been.

One of the last hits from Aaliyah's all-too-brief career was the track "More Than a Woman," released posthumously from her self-titled third LP.
The song and the video both showcased Aaliyah Dana Haughton, then 22, at her finest: flirty, reserved, sultry and, most importantly, it left listeners and viewers with a palpable sense that there was indeed more to come from this talented artist. Unfortunately, her life was tragically cut short when a plane carrying her and her entourage crashed shortly after takeoff. Her death — which occurred exactly eight years ago — still feels like it happened entirely too soon.
Ever since the Detroit singer and dancer debuted in 1994 with Age Ain't Nothing But a Number, we all watched Aaliyah blossom. Her »

We recently reported that Robert Downey Jr was in-talks to play Lestat Du Lioncort in Universal Pictures' reboot of Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles.
Bsc Review decided to ask Rice if she would comment on the casting news, and here's what she had to say: "I cannot confirm or deny the rumor. I have not received official word as to the truth of it yet," she offered. "But I can say without hesitation that I love Robert Downey Jr and I think he would make a fabulous Vampire Lestat."
"He is a major actor, a powerhouse of talent and personality," she went on, "and he evinces an irrepressible and seductive charm. He would bring great energy and skill to the role. I would love to see this happen. So I hope the rumors are true."
"Some are saying he is too old to play the part," she continued. »

This vampire craze is getting out of hand. Stephenie Meyer writes a series of bad Twilight books and a few years later we’re wading through fanged teens and gothic heroes on screen. Now one of the biggest stars in Hollywood is considering a vampire series. No, not Robert Pattinson…
According to Bloody-Disgusting, Robert Downey Jr. is in close talks to headline a revival of Anne Rice’s “The Vampire Chronicles.” Another franchise for Rdj? Iron Man 2 is in post-production, Sherlock Holmes will probably solve more than one mystery, and now this.
Downey would play Lestat de Lioncourt, a French nobleman turned bloodsucker and the main character in the majority of the best-selling series. Universal Pictures is looking to restart the series, which could mean a remake of 1994’s Interview with the Vampire.
Lestat was played by Tom Cruise in the original film, which also starred Brad Pitt and a young Kirsten Dunst. »

Now here’s some vampire news I can really get my teeth into! Universal Pictures are looking to reboot the Vampire Chronicles series! The Vampire Chronicles were a series of phenomenally successful books written by one of my favourite authors – Anne Rice. The series of 10 books began with an initial trilogy of Interview with the Vampire (1976), The Vampire Lestat (1985) and The Queen of the Damned (1988) and culminated with the final novel Blood Canticle in 2003.
It’s quite obvious to me that Universal have reached this decision based on the recent success of Summit Entertainment’s Twilight franchise, with their latest film “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” already sending fans into overdrive.
However The Vampire Chronicles is the series that kick-started the tired vampire mythos with 1976’s Interview with the Vampire, the tale of Louis de Pointe du Lac and his journey into the underground world of the vampire, with the »

Universal Pictures plans to reboot Anne Rice's "The Vampire Chronicles", and is in talks with Robert Downey Jr. to play the vampire Lestat Du Lioncort, reports Bloody-Disgusting.
As most of you doubtless already know, the character of Lestat was played by Tom Cruise in the 1994 adaptation of Rice's "Interview with the Vampire", which co-starred Brad Pitt, Christian Slater and Kirsten Dunst.
Stuart Townsend later played Lestat in the 2002 film Queen of the Damned, which co-starred the late Aaliyah and took elements from the author's "The Vampire Lestat" and "The Queen of the Damned".
The series of novels also includes "The Tale of the Body Thief," "Memnoch the Devil", "The Vampire Armand", "Merrick", "Blood and Gold", "Blackwood Farm" and "Blood Canticle."
Bloody-Disgusting has confirmed that Robert Downey Jr is currently in close talks. However, no word on which book in the series the studio will tackle.

Updated: A member of Ontd contacted Anne Rice via her openly available email address regarding the following story and got this in reply: Stacy, I cannot confirm this story. The negotiations are entirely in the hands of my agents. I know they are always working on setting up my books with good motion picture prospects. But I do not have anything specific to say on the matter right now. I am optimistic that we will see good movies in the future based on the Vampire Chronicles. When I do have news to report, I will post it on my website. I thank you for your interest. I can certainly confirm that the film of Queen of the Damned was a terrible disappointment to me and to many of the readers. Thank you for your letter. Anne Rice. Perhaps I should wise up and do the same kind of reporting... Lesson learned. »

Bloody Disgusting has reported today that Universal Studios is looking to resurrect Anne Rice's popular novel series The Vampire Chronicles, which came to the big screen in 1994 with Neil Jordan's Interview with the Vampire, starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, and then hit the direct-to-dvd market in the Michael Rymer sequel Queen Of The Damned, starring Aaliyah and Stuart Townsend. The biggest revelation about this news is that Robert Downey Jr. is eyeing the role of Lestat, the vampire originally portrayed by Tom Cruise, and then later recast with Stuart Townsend in the lesser follow-up.
There is no word on how Universal plans to role out this proposed series of films. The first film would be titled The Vampire Chronicles, with Downey Jr. portraying Lestat Du Lioncort, a nobleman-turned-vampire leaving in the 18th century.
We'll alert you as soon as an official announcement is made about both the film, »

R. Kelly and his estranged wife Andrea Lee are officially singles in the eyes of law as their divorce has been finalized. Lawyers for both of them issued a joint statement on Thursday, January 8, confirming the dissolution of their marriage.
"The parties have reached an amicable resolution concerning all issues related to their marriage and will share joint custody of their three children," the lawyers said in a statement. "The details of this agreement will remain confidential and the family requests that their privacy be respected during this time."
