Queen’s trailer was the catchiest Bollywood trailer I had seen in a long, long time. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the film. The promise of a fun journey taking off from an innovative premise – a traditional girl who sets off on her honeymoon alone- turned out to be a lot of fun but a disappointing and superficial coming-of-age drama that resorts to Bollywood trappings of women’s liberation.
Ten minutes into the film and a Punjabi wedding song later (they never fail to work!), the film had completely absorbed me. Irrespective of how many times you have seen them on screen, the chaos of a Punjabi wedding and a fun-loving Punjabi family shimmying to an already superhit song manage to charm you no end. Rani (Kangana Ranaut), introduced to us without any frills, talking to herself about things as banal as uploading her »

“There are a number of reasons why you may be tempted to watch Gulaab Gang. They include the fact that it is a women-oriented film; the powerful action sequences that have been displayed via the promos; as well as the fact that it brings two legends of Indian Cinema together for the first time. Starring Madhuri Dixit Nene and Juhi Chawla in the leading roles, Gulaab Gang did have some enjoyable moments, but it is ultimately a film that was not as exciting. It’s disappointing to have to report this, given that there is so much excitement surrounding this film in particular. I very much appreciate women-oriented films as they are integral in the shaping and development of Indian Cinema. Past contributors include Mother India (1957), Pakeezah (1972), Chandni (1989), Zubeidaa (2001) and Kahaani (2012). I really wanted Gulaab Gang to be on the list of the greatest women-oriented films of all time. However, »

Sridevi, who ruled Indian cinema in the 80s and 90s, made a solid comeback two years ago with English Vinglish. However, post the massive response that English Vinglish garnered, Sridevi has maintained a distance from the silver screen. Finally, her husband Boney Kapoor announced that he is producing a film which will have Sridevi playing the main lead. While he has been mum about the rest of the cast and crew, it is being said that this one too will be a trilingual film just like English Vinglish. However, Boney Kapoor maintained that this yet to be titled film is slated to go on floor this year in the month of September or October and will be shot in Delhi. »

Boney Kapoor's Tevar, his first film on the floors in 8 years, just got bigger. The enterprising producer has now decided to shoot a big introductory song with his leading lady Sonakshi Sinha. The song is being currently shot in Indore apparently at a cost of whopping Rs 2.5 crores. Apparently, Sonakshi's costume alone costs a mind blowing Rs. 75 lakhs. Sajid-Wajid who has composed the song was briefed to come up with an item song on a par if not better than Kareena Kapoor's 'Fevicol' song in Dabangg 2. Speaking from Indore where the song is being shot right now, Boney Kapoor said, "Firstly let me clarify I am not the producer, just the guardian-overseer of Tevar. My brother Sanjay Kapoor is the official producer. I can't tell you much about the song except that it would be one of the biggest item songs ever. Remo D'Souza is choreographing it. »

The role is that of a middleclass Maharashtrian woman opposite her cop-hero Ajay Devgn and would require Kareena not only to dress but also talk like a typical Maharashtrian woman from the suburbs.
Says a source, "The character of Devgn's love-interest in the first Singham film was sketchy. She was loud but at the fringes of the plot. In Singham 2, the female protagonist is pivotal to the plot. Rohit Shetty re-wrote the role after Kareena agreed to do it."
Apparently, the character would be shown breaking into fluent fast-flowing Marathi in her excitable moments. Says the source, "Kareena knows a smattering of Marathi but for the part in Singham 2, she will practice the Marathi with her Maharashtrian friends. »
