"Paul Blart: Mall Cop" - A second review. Should be escorted from the building.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop reviewby Mike Digiorgio, Writer Paul Blart:  Mall Cop.  The title makes you hopeful you’ll get a movie with some big, dumb laughs.  You want to see a guy who’s over-confident and takes his job way too seriously.   But Adam Sandler’s production company and writer/star Kevin James (King of Queens) have given us a sad, quiet and decent guy.  He wants to be a state trooper but can’t pass the physical test.  He’s hypoglycemic and passes out periodically if he doesn’t eat something sugary.  He lives with his mom and his daughter, who he had with an illegal immigrant who took advantage of him to get a green card.  And unlike the Mall Cop the bold title conjures up, he knows he’s a kind of a loser.  I can’t laugh at this guy.  I’d be as big »

"Paul Blart: Mall Cop" review. Relies too much on tired jokes.

15 January 2009 10:58 PM, PST | Movie Jungle | See recent Movie Jungle news »

Paul Blart: Mall Cop reviewby Eric Sloss, Writer   Happy Madison Productions (Adam Sandler’s production company) films are like fast food.  They are simple, easy and very popular with the masses.  Each don’t demand much from their respective audiences and they don’t do anything daring or bold.  “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” falls in this category.  It is a harmless comedy with a likable lead.  It also doesn’t generate much laughs and fails to be original in any way.   Kevin James is the aforementioned likable lead.  He was aspiring to be a state policeman, but fails the obstacle course test when his Hypoglycemia kicks in.  Hypoglycemia renders Paul unconscious when he doesn’t get enough sugar.  This is played for laughs, but like so much in this film is overused to the extent of exhaustion.  With his condition, Paul ends up working as a mall cop.  There is not much to the job. »
