First Look: Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox

10 July 2009 10:47 AM, PDT | From TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news

The Joblo folks have debuted the first image from Wes Anderson’s upcoming stop-motion animated film Fantastic Mr. Fox. The film is an adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl story of the same name, which centers on Angry farmers who, tired of sharing their chickens with a sly fox, look to get rid of their opponent and his family. It arrives in theater in November. Hopefully we’ll get that elusive teaser trailer soon. Anderson co-wrote the screenplay with Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale) and the film features an all-star cast of voice talent including George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Michael Gambon, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Adrien Brody, Brian Cox, Anjelica Huston, Helen McCrory and Jason Schwartzman.

Kyle Gallner’s Haunting Body of Work

9 July 2009 2:13 PM, PDT | From Fangoria.com | See recent Fangoria news

Over the course of modern horror history, it has become fairly commonplace for young actresses (from Jamie Lee Curtis to Angela Bettis) to work their way up through the genre and establish positions of prominence within it. Rising young actors making a significant mark in fright fare have been less common—but one current exception is Kyle Gallner, who stars in the recent hit The Haunting In Connecticut (out on Lionsgate DVDs and Blu-ray next week), appears this fall in the much-buzzed-about Jennifer’S Body (see a new exclusive pic below) and tangles with Freddy Krueger in next year’s A Nightmare On Elm Street remake.

The 22-year-old Gallner (who discussed his Nightmare stint here) had amassed a lengthy résumé of TV credits and a number of supporting parts in features before Haunting beckoned with the central role of Matt Campbell, a teenager suffering from cancer who moves with his

Thursday Trailers: Trick’R Treat

1 July 2009 11:47 PM, PDT | From SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news

You've already heard this one before, but this time, it's for real : Trick 'R Treat is the horror film fans have been waiting for. It's the cure to all the tasteless remakes, sequels and excessively praised "Holy Grails" that we have had to suffer through for years. Told over the span of one Halloween night, the story encompasses a wide range of characters (teenagers, parents, children, and a grumpy old man) whose stories intertwine across a series of four narratives. The director, Dougherty, knows all tricks to keep us hooked and presents them to us with an array of well-known actors such as Brian Cox, Anna Paquin and Dylan Baker.

As North America’s largest genre film festival, Fantasia will once again make good on its promise to deliver diversity, innovation, entertainment, food for thought and a good dose of eccentric and biting humour.

Next is a message from Fantasia's Co-Director of International Programming, Mitch Davis, highlighting some of this year’s spotlights:

A nine minute clip from the upcoming horror film "Trick 'r Treat" is available on the "Friday the 13th" Blu-ray disc via Bd-Live. One fan already put up this clip online and you can check it out below. "Trick 'r Treat" is about four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween. An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband. It is written and directed by Michael Dougherty, who actually wrote the screenplay for "X2" and probably had something to do with the casting, since both Paquin and Brian Cox are in the film. 9 Minute Clip: If you cannot see the player, click here. Looking Ahead: 2009 Toronto Film Festival Line-Up Predictions

13 June 2009 | From ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news

- While Venice remains a fest that strictly selects auteur driven material, Toronto is a beast of a film festival that serves up a huge heaping plate of films rolled up in red carpets. Tiff is also a great place for journalists to follow up on cinematic experiences from Cannes and conduct some in-depth interviews as I plan to do with those behind the Tales From the Golden Age, A Prophet, Dogtooth, Fish Tank and Police, Adjectiv. They'll most likely receive their North American preems at this festival. So what are Cameron and Piers looking at? Read ahead. Usually reserved for the bigger films and Oscar buzz titles, the Galas and Special Presentations section in Toronto should be populated with: the long awaited thriller from Richard Kelly (The Box), Julie Taymor's The Tempest starring Helen Mirren and coincidentally it would make sense for her hubby Taylor Hackford to bring Love Ranch for show.

Trick 'R Treat - Flashback Review

10 June 2009 11:11 AM, PDT | From Fangoria.com | See recent Fangoria news

Other than John Carpenter’s Halloween, very few fright films have used the October 31 setting as an effective backdrop.

Most of the All Hallow's-themed genre movies are outright clunkers and don’t actually do anything with the holiday itself, the horror version of Christmas; most, if not all, of them could have been set on the 4th of July, and what difference would it have made? A big part of the fun behind Trick ’R Treat, the directing debut of X2 and Superman Returns screenwriter Michael Dougherty, is that it’s a Halloween movie through and through; its chills are all specific to that night, and it depends on the holiday’s trappings for its look and feel from first frame to last.

For that alone, Trick ’R Treat earns points in my book, but thankfully, Dougherty also understands that Halloween is also about having fun by scaring people; while
