First Look at the New Cast of Fox’s The Finder

27 October 2011 10:08 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

If you’ve been keeping up with news on Fox’s “The Finder” TV show (their “Bones” spin-off), then you probably already know that Saffron Burrows has been replaced as the show’s female lead. New castmembers included Mercedes Masohn and Maddie Hasson, but it’s really Masohn’s Isabel Zambada, a U.S. Marshall who will be getting most of the screentime as leading man Walter Sherman’s “Moonlighting”-esque love interest. Well here’s your first look at Masohn, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Geoff Stults on the set of “The Finder”. I guess if you had to introduce your new leading lady, having her dripping wet and emerging out of the ocean is a pretty, er, nice way to go about it. Plus here’s an extra news item: John Francis Daley, who plays FBI psychiatrist Sweets on “Bones”, will be transplanted to “The Finder” as a new regular. »

Frank Miller Says Sin City 2 Will Shoot Spring 2012

23 October 2011 1:43 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Sin City creator Frank Miller has been talking to MTV and reveals that the long-gestating Sin City 2 movie which director Robert Rodriguez previously told us would film before the end was out, is now eyeing a spring 2012 start date as being more realistic.

Miller/Rodriguez’s script is currently being passed on by acclaimed The Departed screenwriter William Monahan.

Miller also talked a little about their approach;

“‘Sin City’ number two is primarily an adaptation of the book ‘A Dame to Kill For’,” Miller reiterated, then adding: “It also features the short story, ‘Just Another Saturday Night’ and two new stories. One involving Jessica Alba’s character, Nancy Callahan, that I came up with for the movie in order to tie things together and make it be more united with the first.”

Miller didn’t confirm that Jessica Alba would reprise Nancy Callahan but with her recently appearing in »

DVD Review - Green Lantern (2011)

14 October 2011 1:22 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Green Lantern, 2011.

Directed by Martin Campbell.

Starring Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, Tim Robbins, Temuera Morrison, Taiki Waititi, Jay O. Sanders, Geoffrey Rush, Michael Clarke Duncan, Peter Sarsgaard and Clancy Brown.

Synopsis:

The first human to be selected for the Green Lantern Corps, test-pilot Hal Jordon soon finds himself as Earth’s last hope for survival when the planet is threatened by the destructive entity known as Parallax.

It’s fair to say that outside of Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise, Warner Bros. haven’t exactly set the world alight with their stable of DC Comics superheroes as of late. In fact, their output over the past decade or so has been anything but stellar (see Catwoman, Superman Returns, Jonah Hex), while the studio’s one decent effort – Zack Snyder's Watchmen – was never really going to be anything more than a cult hit (I mean, could »

Green Lantern Extended Cut Blu-ray Review

6 October 2011 8:20 AM, PDT | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Green Lantern is not a great film. But it's also not as terrible as you've been told.

It is the first attempt by Warner Bros. to exploit the big-screen potential of its seemingly endless DC Comics catalog, and it's absolutely a mixed bag of failures and successes.

Truth be told, I've spent quite a bit of time over the course of the last four months since the film debut in theaters thinking about where I stand on the movie. And judging from the veritable cacophony of opinions floating around inside my brain, it seems that this movie was everything to me at once.

Green Lantern tells the story of Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds), a showboating, risk-taking test pilot and the first human to be inducted into the intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps. Armed with a power ring that transforms its wearer's willpower into energy constructs, Jordan »

Toronto 2011 Review: Todd Solondz’s Dark Horse

25 September 2011 12:45 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars

Confession time: I have never seen a Todd Solondz movie before. This may alarm some of you and cause you to immediately discredit my opinion on this film, but that would be pointless. If anything, you could say that I can approach this film without any sort of bias in reference to his previous work. Everyone has to start somewhere and I went to see this movie with someone who was a huge Solondz fan and was desperately excited to see it.

Turns out, we both shared the same opinion. What an awful, waste of a film, Solondz worst apparently. All I can say on that, is I really hope so, as this film has gone some way into putting me off watching any of his back catalogue.

Dark Horse is Solondz’ attempt at picking apart the sub genre of manchild comedy that has become so prevalent in modern Hollywood cinema. »

'Bones' mini-season ordered by Fox

Fox has ordered four additional episodes of drama series Bones. Series star Emily Deschanel (Brennan) confirmed in March that she is expecting a child with husband David Hornsby. As a result, the show's 13-part seventh season was originally intended to air in two parts, with six episodes airing from November 3 and seven more planned for broadcast in the spring. New spinoff series The Finder - starring Geoff Stults and Michael Clarke Duncan - was planned to fill the winter gap. However, executive producer Stephen Nathan has now confirmed to TV Line that four extra Bones episodes have been ordered, though it is currently unclear when they will air. "It's a very odd situation we're in," he said. "[Fox] has scheduled us for 13 episodes, but they want as many episodes as we can produce." He continued: "We're (more) »

Mario Van Peebles & Michael Clarke Duncan Embark On ‘Redemption Road’

1 September 2011 6:57 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Delivering a powerful, distinct and enlightening message in film is a rare commodity in today's Hollywood scene, according to acclaimed actor-director Mario Van Peebles. The "Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song" star hopes that's what he has delivered in his latest directorial effort, "Redemption Road," which stars Michael Clarke Duncan, Luke Perry and Morgan Simpson, among others.

The Tennessee-set drama tells a tale of two men from distinct backgrounds embarking on a music-steered journey through the deep south who are then linked by a series of events that took place years earlier.

“One of the things that drew me to it was it has life affirming quality to it. You see a lot of films where you don’t care for the people and you’re watching them do things, but it just doesn’t help us out,” Van Peebles told The Huffington Post. “Dr. [Martin Luther] King said, ‘We either learn to live »

15 Movie Stars Heading to TV This Fall

School is back in session and the summer movie season has wrapped, which means the pop-culture focus temporarily shifts to television until the annual slate of Oscar contenders and holiday blockbusters hit theaters.

This fall, though, you'll notice the new television season has a host of big movie stars transitioning to primetime, either for the first time, like Luke Wilson, or in a splashy return, like Ashton Kutcher.

While the majority of film actors are headlining high-profile series, a couple of them are lining up for key supporting roles in ensemble casts. Take a look at these 15 familiar faces and find out where you can catch them on the small screen this year.

Zooey Deschanel, 'New Girl'

There's no other actress who can combine beautiful and quirky with adorable and dorky (adorkable) like Deschanel can. The "500 Days of Summer" actress joins her sister Emily (of "Bones" fame) on »

‘The Departed’ Writer Takes on ‘Sin City 2′

30 August 2011 8:57 AM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

William Monahan, best known for writing and winning the Oscar for The Departed, has been hired to “help shape” the script for the long-awaited, often-rumored Sin City 2 written by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller.

Actors who survived the first film (including potentially Clive Owen, Jessica Alba, Devon Aoki, and Rosario Dawson) are expected to return for the follow-up. Rodriguez told fans at Comic-Con this year that the sequel would be based on Miller’s A Dame to Kill For and two newly-written stories.

“A Dame to Kill For” centers on Dwight (Owen) in an affair with a former flame named Ava that, of course, turns violent. Outmatched, Dwight enlists the help of Marv (Mickey Rourke), who did not survive the first film, to battle Manute (Michael Clarke Duncan), so it’s unclear if Rourke will return.

Rodriguez has been teasing a sequel since 2005, when the original made a splash with its unique visuals. »

'The Departed' Scripter is Taking a Stab at 'Sin City 2'... You Interested?

William Monahan hasn't necessarily blown the doors off since winning the Oscar for The Departed back in 2007. I was one of the few that enjoyed Body of Lies, Edge of Darkness was a bust and his directorial debut, London Boulevard has yet to hit theaters stateside despite a cast that includes Colin Farrell and Keira Knightley. So excuse me if I don't get too excited when I learn Monahan has been hired to work on the script for Sin City 2, apparently supplementing a draft previously completed by the source material's author, Frank Miller.

Sin City 2 will be directed by Robert Rodriguez, who filmed the first adaptation of Miller's graphic novel and while at Comic Con earlier this year told the audience, "There is a scenario where Frank [Miller] has written a script for Sin City 2. It's called 'A Dame to Kill For' because we're kind of following the »

Director Robert Rodriguez has been promising to begin shooting "Sin City 2" later this year. Duncan said that he's not sure if he'll be asked to return. Michael Clarke Duncan recently did an interview with Rotten Tomatoes. In the interview he revealed that he thinks he would be a perfect fit for the role of Panthro in a Thundercats movie, and would love to return for Robert Rodriguez's Sin City 2.

Here is what he had to say:

Speaking of Daredevil and Sin City, I read that you were a big comic book fan growing up.

Is there a superhero you'd want to play if you had the chance?

Oh yeah. I'd want to play Panthro from ThunderCats. I like Panthro. I always have. He was cool, he did the nunchucks. I think I'd have to work on my nunchuck skills; when I was younger, I hit myself on the head with some nunchucks. But Panthro from ThunderCats.
