The cast of ABC's Dirty Dancing, a three-hour TV remake, is starting to come together, now that Abigail Breslin and Colt Prattes have been set as the two leads. Deadline reports today that Katey Sagal has signed on to join the cast, with production set to begin this week in North Carolina. The actress is playing Vivian Pressman, a role originally portrayed by Miranda Garrison in the 1987 hit movie.
Vivian Pressman is described as a "bungalow bunny," a former beauty queen who spends her free time trying to seduce the younger male workers at the Kellerman resort, such as Colt Prattes' Johnny Castle. Vivian is also said to be "fabulously wealthy" and recently divorced, who takes matters into her own hands when Johnny leaves her for Baby (Abigail Breslin). With Abigail Breslin already locked in to play Baby, ABC's Dirty Dancing has finally found its Johnny Castle. The Wrap reports that actor/dancer Colt Prattes has landed the iconic role in the Dirty Dancing TV special. The site also reports that Debra Messing has come aboard to portray Marjorie Housman, Baby's mother.
ABC's Dirty Dancing is said to be a three-hour musical special, but it won't be airing live like popular specials such as NBC's The Wiz Live! and Fox's Grease: Live. Instead, it will be filmed prior to broadcast, much like Fox's upcoming The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event. Our report from last month revealed that ABC will likely give this special the green light once Johnny Castle was cast, so we may get an official announcement soon, now that Colt Prattes has come aboard.
