First Official Look At Alexander Skarsgård, Paul Rudd And Justin Theroux In Duncan Jones' Mute

7 January 2017 6:16 AM, PST | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Duncan Jones will follow up Warcraft with a noir-ish sci-fi thriller set in futuristic Berlin, Mute. The story follows a bartender (Alexander Skarsgård) who teams up with a pair of surgeons (Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux) to track down his missing girlfriend. Mute is the second part of Jones' trilogy which kicked-off with Moon, and is apparently set in the same universe. There's a definite Blade Runner vibe from these first images, which you can check out below along with the synopsis. Set in the near-future, Leo (Alexander Skarsgård) is a bartender living in the pulsing city of Berlin. Because of a childhood accident, Leo lost the ability to speak and the only good thing in his life is his beautiful girlfriend Naadirah (Seyneb Saleh). When she vanishes without a trace, Leo’s search for her takes him deep into the city’s seedy underbelly. A pair of wise-cracking American »

First Look at Duncan Jones' Netflix Thriller, Mute

6 January 2017 10:43 AM, PST | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Duncan Jones' psychological thriller, starring Alexander Skarsgard, Paul Rudd, and Justin Theroux is coming to Netflix this year!  In anticipation for it's inevitable release, check out the first photos from the film!

The director of Moon, Source Code, and most recently Warcraft, has spent the last few months working his latest film, not for the big screen, but for the streaming juggernaut Netflix.  Today, we get to sample the fruits of his labor with new pics! Let's analyze the first pictures from Duncan Jones' Netflix Original Movie, Mute, shall we?

As you can see from the photos, Mute feels very 80s with its interpretation of the future.  Almost Blade Runner-esque or Judge Dredd without all the Rob Schneiders hiding in pasta robots.  The premise behind Mute is a pretty interesting one too.  See the synopsis below:

Mute First Look Images Reveal Hints Of Duncan Jones’ Layered Awesomeness

6 January 2017 9:11 AM, PST | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

The first, often tiny, reveals from films, especially those that are still rather far from release, don’t generally amount to much, but when Duncan Jones is involved, you hope for a taste of the wild world headed your way.

Mute, a film that sounds like a brilliant revisit to film noir, has released a few images, and though I’m not usually one for picking apart the details of such things, these actually manage to amp up the anticipation. Sure, the image of Paul Rudd is just Paul Rudd with a serious mustache, but he plays one of a pair of surgeons, and he looks like he’s stepped out of some warped reboot of Mash.

Beyond that little touch of fun, the images reveal something that looks like Blade Runner, and when you put it together with the dark, ominous plot, that throws things a bit out of »

Alexander Skarsgård and Paul Rudd Head to the Future in First Images From Duncan Jones’ ‘Mute’

6 January 2017 8:22 AM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

After entering the world of large-scale fantasy with last year’s Warcraft, director Duncan Jones is returning to sci-fi for his next film, but this time with a smaller scope. His long-gestating futuristic project Mute finally went into production last year, and ahead of a release on Netflix in 2017, the first images and new synopsis have arrived.

Starring Alexander Skarsgård, Paul Rudd, and Justin Theroux, it follows a mute bartender who has to track down his girlfriend in a near-future Berlin. Judging from this first look, we can see the Blade Runner-inspired set design and a mustachioed Rudd, which is often the best kind of Rudd. Check out the official synopsis and new images (above and below) for the film featuring a score from Clint Mansell.

Newswire: Take a look at the neon-heavy first images from Duncan Jones’ Mute

6 January 2017 8:20 AM, PST | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Netflix has released the first images from Duncan JonesMute and they feature a lot of neon, a brooding Alexander Skarsgård, and Paul Rudd working his Anchorman mustache. In this futuristic tale, Skarsgård takes on the lead role of a bartender named Leo who can’t speak. After Leo’s girlfriend goes missing, he crosses paths with two “wise-cracking” surgeons played by Rudd and Theroux. Back in 2011, Jones talked about his affection for these characters in an interview with The A.V. Club. “It’s kind of like buddy villains as opposed to buddy cops, and they see themselves as being so high above everyone else around them intellectually, as surgeons working in Berlin doing cybernetic work and enhancements in the black market, helping out bodyguards, getting them all wired up so they can tear people’s heads off,” he said. He now has outfitted them with distinctly wacky »

First images from Duncan Jones’ Mute revealed

6 January 2017 8:10 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The first batch of images from MuteDuncan Jones’ directorial follow-up to Warcraft, have arrived online. Three of the film’s main cast members, Alexander Skarsgård, Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux, are highlighted in the stills. Check them out below…

The first thing that comes to mind when looking at the images is how much the film’s visuals look like that of Blade Runner, with neon signs lighting up 2052 Berlin, which is where and when the film is set. In fact, Jones even told the outlet that the film draws influence from the 1982 Ridley Scott classic, as well as 1942’s Casablanca.

In the film, Skarsgård plays a mute bartender named Leo who sets out on a mission to find his girlfriend Naadirah (Seyneb Saleh) when she goes missing. On his noir-ish quest, he dives “deep into the city’s seedy, neon underworld” and constantly comes across two sketchy American »

Duncan Jones’ ‘Mute’: First Look at Highly Anticipated Futuristic Thriller Introduces a Brave New World

6 January 2017 7:35 AM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Get ready to re-enter the “Moon-iverse.” Filmmaker Duncan Jones’ long-teased and much anticipated feature “Mute” is finally, finally about to hit the screen after years of starts and stops, promises and just plain old wishin’ and hopin’. Back in June, Jones told us, “I’ve always wanted to make ‘Mute,’ and I’ve been on ‘Mute”’ for about 14 years. I’m determined, no matter what happens, I’m going to get that movie made, at some point.”

Netflix is producing the sci-fi thriller, offering Jones — who is coming off the disappointment of another long-gestating project, the video game adaptation “Warcraft” — the chance to get back in the filmmaking saddle with what sounds like his dream project. Netflix has now unveiled a first look at the film, including a look at the sci-fi universe it inhabits, along with its three principal stars.
