We might not get another "Harry Potter," but there's a lot coming down the pike to fill the void: a new "Alien"-esque film in "Prometheus," the gritty and ruthless "Hunger Games," the superhero spectacle "The Avengers," and a brand new Batman, via "The Dark Knight Rises." Here's a brief rundown of what we hope delivers on the hype and makes our "Best of 2012" lists this time next year.

'Hunger Games': New still of Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss still leaves me insatiable

28 December 2011 9:22 AM, PST | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

With the new year just days away, there’s plenty to get excited about in 2012. A Van Halen comeback, the return of Mad Men, and, of course, The Hunger Games, which hits theaters March 23. The trailer for Gary Ross’ adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ dystopian book was equal parts thrilling and terrifying, but we have yet to get another glimpse into Panem after the teaser was released in November. Unfortunately, that’s not about to change. A new photo from the film has been released… but, it’s hardly new at all. In fact, the picture — featuring Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss »

Germain’s 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2012

27 December 2011 12:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

If 2012 is the end of the world, that's all right with me. Hollywood has overstocked the Mayan calendar's final year with so many potentially amazing movies that trying to cut it down to a top ten was virtually impossible. How could movies like The Amazing Spider-Man, Brave or Lincoln not be on this list? Ten then became twenty, which was more satisfying but there were still a few major films lingering. So, while I could have easily done 30, here are my ten most anticipated films with a bloated honorable mention list. Is your most anticipated on the list? Here are my honorable mention anticipated films of 2012, from least to most anticipated: John Carter, This is 40, World War Z, Gangster Squad, Wreck-It Ralph, Lincoln, The Amazing Spider-Man, Brave, American Reunion, Looper And now the top 10, complete with photos and brief descriptions. 10. The Hunger Games Soundtrack to Feature Original Songs from The Decemberists, Arcade Fire, Taylor Swift, and More

26 December 2011 4:47 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Just the other day the first single from the soundtrack to Gary Ross’ highly anticipated adaptation of The Hunger Games, a song called “Safe and Sound” by Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars, was released. While some were dismayed at the inclusion of the teen-skewing Swift, producer T. Bone Burnett (Crazy Heart) has much more up his sleeve as a few more contributing artists have now been announced. Burnett is collaborating with composer James Newton Howard not only on the film’s score, but also on an ambitious soundtrack album made up of original songs inspired by the film’s themes . Hit the jump to find out who’ll be joining Swift on the soundtrack. At the time of the “Safe and Sound” release, I mentioned that I was hopeful Burnett would include a wide-range of artists on the new album, and now my fears of an entirely teen-centric soundtrack have been alleviated. »

Soundtrack Details for ‘The Hunger Games’ Most Interesting Thing About Film; Listen to Taylor Swift’s Contribution

26 December 2011 8:40 AM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

I thought the brief participation of Steven Soderbergh would — other than great reviews I’m not holding my breath for — be the only thing to get my eyes planted on a screen playing The Hunger Games. And, actually, that’s still kind of true — but something interesting has, nevertheless, cropped up in the adaptation’s circle.

As Deadline reports, the “companion album” for Gary Ross‘ film will have the work of some talented musicians peppered throughout. The most significant of these is Win Butler and Régine Chassagne of Arcade Fire (one of my favorite bands in the whole wide world); otherwise, we also have The Decemberists, Taylor Swift, and The Civil Wars.

Reports originally indicated that all of Arcade Fire would be contributing a song to the soundtrack, but I guess their two leading members were the only contributors; they wrote the tune with Oscar winner T Bone Burnett. (The »

Listen to Taylor Swift’s “Safe and Sound” from The Hunger Games Soundtrack

23 December 2011 10:27 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

In addition to weapons and teenage murder, music plays a crucial role in Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games. Director Gary Ross recruited producer/songwriter T. Bone Burnett (Crazy Heart) and composer James Newton Howard (replacing Danny Elfman who dropped out due to scheduling issues) to collaborate on the ambitious soundtrack for the feature film adaptation, which is set to feature music and songs both for the film and ones by new and established artists inspired by the film. Today, none other than Taylor Swift has released the first song from the soundtrack. Swift and singer-songwriter duo The Civil Wars have collaborated on a track entitled “Safe and Sound.” Given her far-reaching commercial appeal, Swift seems an obvious choice to have the first track out of the gate. While many may groan at the thought of a pop-heavy soundtrack, this is likely the first of many tracks and collaborations we »

Get Up Close and Personal With Effie Trinket in 'The Hunger Games'

22 December 2011 7:23 AM, PST | bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news »

I'm still clinging on to hope that Lionsgate's The Hunger Games will tonally be similar to Battle Royale and The Running Man, as originally promised. The trailer looked like it could go in the direction, but it also carried a ridiculous dystopian feel. Case in point: Elizabeth Banks' character, District 12 escort Effie Trinket. I previously joked about her clown make-up, now you'll get a up close and personal look thanks to MTV's faux cosmetic ad asking "what will you be wearing to the opening ceremonies"? Ask Joel Schumacher... Directed by Gary Ross, and starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Dayo Okeniyi, Amandla Stenberg, Chris Mark, Jacqueline Emerson, Wes Bentley, Lenny Kravitz, Toby Jones, and Stanley Tucci, Lionsgate will begin the games on March 23. »
