I've read some very substantial rumours that Johnston is slated to direct an adaptation of Lois Lowry's wonderful novel The Giver. I'm a bit angry about the choice of director for this project, because, the Giver is one of those books that would potentially be a rotten movie if mis-directed and especially, miswritten. That brings me to my next complaint: Robert B. Weide. This writer, who's experience lies merely in STAND UP COMEDY, is slated to right the screenplay. I cannot believe the powers that be would allow such a highly praised book to fall into the hands of such a potentially misfiring director/writer. The only light that shines on this project is Jeff Bridges, who is on to produce and act.
Hopefully this gets stopped before it gets started.
