Each week within this column we strive to pair the latest in theatrical releases to worthwhile titles currently available on Netflix Instant Watch. This week we offer alternatives to Dark Shadows, God Bless America and Hick.

Tim Burton brings the peculiar tale of the Collins clan to the big screen. Johnny Depp stars as Barnabas Collins, a long-imprisoned vampire unleashed on the 1970s, where he discovers a colorful batch of dysfunctional descendants. Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter co-star.

Prefer camp with your macabre?

Dark Shadows (1966) Check out the cult classic that started it all. Originally conceived as a moody melodrama, this groundbreaking gothic soap found success following the introduction of tormented vampire Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid). From there the Collins family regularly crosses the paths of ghosts, werewolves, and witches. Oh my.

Edward Scissorhands (1990) Or revisit Burton and Depp’s first collaboration, the tale of a modern Frankenstein’s monster with scissors for hands. »

Exclusive: Trailer For 'A Green Story' Starring Shannon Elizabeth Premiering At L.A. Greek Film Festival

10 April 2012 11:26 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

While Shannon Elizabeth was back on the big screen last weekend in "American Reunion," reprising the role of Nadia that made her famous, an entirely different side of the actress will be on display in the upcoming biopic "A Green Story."

Joining Elizabeth are Ed O’Ross, Annabella Sciorra, George Finn, Malcolm McDowell, Billy Zane, Louis Mandylor, Debbie Matenopoulos and Alessandra Toressani in the film that tells the true story Van Vlahakis, a Greek immigrant who arrived in America with only $22 in his pocket and eventually founded the multi-million dollar green company, Earth Friendly Products. The trailer for the film which is unveiled below provides an interesting mix of true-life biopic and the quest for the American Dream. The film was shot on location in both Los Angeles and Greece, and certainly provides a bit of a different story to what is currently in the news about the state of Greek economy and politics. »

'American Reunion' Shannon Elizabeth: 'We're all still the same'

8 April 2012 8:04 AM, PDT | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Shannon Elizabeth has said that the cast members of American Reunion have not changed over the years. The actress, who played exchange student Nadia in the original American Pie film, praised the "fun" atmosphere on the set and said she was glad to see that the dynamic was still the same between the film's actors. "When I worked on the first American Pie, I never would have thought it would turn into what it has. I was just excited to get my first studio film and be a part of it," Elizabeth told People. "When the old cast got back together for American Reunion, it felt like a high school reunion for all of us. The mood on set was a lot of fun. Everybody was joking around, having a good time. New ‘American Reunion’ Movie Delivered Hysterical Laughs,Drama & More

7 April 2012 7:33 PM, PDT | OnTheFlix | See recent OnTheFlix news »

New 'American Reunion' movie delivered hysterical laughs, drama & more. Universal Pictures released the 4th American Pie movie, titled "American Reunion" into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out,and I thought it was super hilarious, delivering laugh, after laugh, after laugh with crazy Stifler and the other guys. The movie stars: Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Seann William Scott, Mena Suvari, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Jennifer Coolidge, Eugene Levy, Natasha Lyonne, and Shannon Elizabeth. The new flick kicked off by showing what kind of life the guys had created for themselves. Jim and Michelle seemed happily married with children, but hadn't had sex in ages. Finch made up a story about traveling to other countries and a bunch of other Bs,but really he just worked at Staples. Oz was a sports celebrity of some sort, and had a super hot chick for a girlfriend. »

Shannon Elizabeth Shares Favorite Vegetarian Snacks

6 April 2012 9:02 PM, PDT | Foodista | See recent Foodista news »

Shannon Elizabeth is an avid vegetarian who says going meatless allows her to stay away from crash diets.

"I'm a vegetarian so eating right definitely gives me the energy you need," the American Reunion actress said.

Her vegetarian diet often includes foods like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, oatmeal, kale salads and tomatoes. "It's funny though because I used to hate Brussels sprouts, but now I love them," Elizabeth said. "Veggies dark in color have more nutrients and are so good for you!"

The one food Elizabeth loves to indulge in is sweet potato fries.

"I love them when they're crunchy and really well done!" she said. "I also love anything chocolate... Oreo shakes, cookies. But I try to get the gluten-free ones because they're sweetened a little more naturally."

Five Reasons To See 'American Reunion'

6 April 2012 12:50 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Let me make a statement that, like a penis penetrating a warm apple pie, is anything but subtle and also kind of surprising: "American Reunion" is the best installment of this raunchy franchise since the 1999 original.

Is this something of a backhanded compliment, considering the second film was a letdown, the third was unwatchable, and the subsequent direct-to-dvd flicks simply went unwatched? Sure. "Reunion," nonetheless, has some damn funny moments. Those moments are too often broken up with stretches of needless character development and stilted acting (try taking Tara Reid seriously at this point — I dare you), but when writer/directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg dial into what made the original such a hoot, "American Reunion" delivers the belly laugh-inducing goods. Here are five reasons to check it out this weekend.

American Pie Hottie Shannon Elizabeth Discusses Her Character’s “Lack Of Costume”

6 April 2012 12:17 PM, PDT | TheFabLife - Movies | See recent TheFabLife - Movies news »

American Reunion opens wide today, allowing us to catch up with Jim, Stifler (and his mom!), Finch and the rest of the East Great Falls crew. But personally, we’re probably most excited to reconnect with Shannon Elizabeth, who stripped her way into teen movie history as the sultry exchange student, Nadia! VH1 News was lucky enough to speak to the actress at the red carpet premiere of Cirque Du Soleil’s “Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour” in New York City this week, where she looked just as lovely as she did in Jason Biggs’ bedroom.

Even though it’s become a modern classic, Shannon admits it’s still weird to see herself on film 13-years younger in the original American Pie. “We were babies,” she says. “We didn’t even look like adults then! I know at the time we thought we were adults. But now it’s like, »

'American Reunion' Movie Review (2012)

6 April 2012 8:22 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

If you're feeling a little skeptical about American Reunion, the fourth go around for the original cast of the American Pie franchise, don't worry, it appears they were just as disinterested. Jim (Jason Biggs), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), Oz (Chris Klein), Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) and Stifler (Seann William Scott) are back and all grown up, but while they may have matured as people, their characters haven't. You can almost hear each actor saying, "I'm too old for this s--t," with every line spoken. The lack of excitement oozes out of the screen as the late '90s comedy tries it's hardest to fit into a world dominated by Judd Apatow productions, which is to say humping a warm apple pie is no longer considered "funny" but showing your penis smashed against your thigh courtesy of a glass top lid apparently is. Yes, that happens. No, it's not funny.

Film Review: ‘American Reunion’ is Tasteless, Stale Piece of Comedy Pie

6 April 2012 7:54 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – “American Reunion” is not unlike the event from which it takes its title. Some of it rekindles memories of what worked in the past in a nostalgic, even sweet way. Some of it reminds one what they liked about these people in the first place. Some of it is just sad. Ultimately, it’s too inconsistent a movie to recommend in any way even if Seann William Scott and Eugene Levy pull every weapon from their comedy arsenals to try and save it. It’s a stale piece of pie.

Rating: 2.0/5.0

Of course, “American Reunion” opens with an awkward scene of a sexual nature as we quickly learn that Jim (Jason Biggs) hasn’t really matured much since he was a virginal teenager even though he’s now married to Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) and has a precocious son. In the opening scene, he starts to masturbate to internet porn »

Shannon Elizabeth Talks 'American Reunion,' New Jewelry Line And More

6 April 2012 6:30 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

The entire East Great Falls gang is back for another round of high school hijinks this weekend in "American Reunion," even if some alumni are bound to get more screen time than others. You'll see plenty of Oz, Finch, Stifler, Kev and Jim (perhaps too much Jim), but some of the other characters you've come to know and love make only the briefest of appearances.

Case in point: Nadia, the Czechoslovakian exchange student that helped turn Jim into an Internet celebrity way back in 1999. Shannon Elizabeth is indeed back for another round of pie-hurtling hilarity, and while her role is a quick one, we promise you this: it's a hilarious cameo.

MTV News recently spoke with Elizabeth about her brief "American" reunion and her future plans. Get the highlights past the jump!

Annette Bourdeau: 'American Pie' Alum Alyson Hannigan: Nerds Finish First

5 April 2012 8:22 AM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

Remember when American Pie first came out, and people couldn't get enough of "It" girls Mena Suvari, Shannon Elizabeth and Tara Reid? Thirteen years later, those three lovely ladies have largely fallen off the map (unless you count Reid's frequent mentions in gossip mags for her, um, unusual antics). Meanwhile, endearing nerd Alyson Hannigan has been steadily building a rather impressive career to become, arguably, the most successful of all the American Pie alum.

Hannigan had already built up a loyal fan base when Pie came out in 1999, thanks to her role as Buffy's trusty sidekick Willow on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She showed fans a completely different side of her as the sex-crazed band geek Michelle in American Pie. (Shy Willow would never throw herself at Jason Biggs like that!)

Since Pie (and Buffy), Hannigan has had memorable guest spots on shows like the cult classic Veronica Mars »

Five Reasons We're Psyched For 'American Reunion'

by Ryan Rigley

High school reunions remain a tried and true tradition to this day. In fact, some might say that they're as American as apple pie. On a similar note, this weekend marks the release of the 4th official installment in the "American Pie" series. Although there have been several straight-to-dvd spin-off movies since 2003's "American Wedding," none of those films featured any of the main cast from the original series. Except for Eugene Levy of course, who is literally in every single one of the "American Pie" movies.

We're talking about Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Sean William Scott, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Mena Suvari, Eddie Kaye Thomas, and even Tara Reid! They're all back, reprising their roles made popular by the original three films. Taking place over a decade after the first "American Pie," "American Reunion" appears to be the most genuine movie in the series as »

American Reunion Cast Skipped Their Own High School Reunions … And Other Revelations

I grew up on American Pie back in the day, so getting to interview the cast at the American Reunion premiere was a late ’90s high-schooler’s dream come true. I grilled Chris Klein, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Shannon Elizabeth and the rest of the Pie Crew on the red carpet and learned some important things. Mainly, that they all had horrible prom nights, skipped their own high school reunions and really love singing Journey. In other words, some stars really are just like us!
