Terminator Genisys crosses $400 million worldwide

30 August 2015 1:49 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It may have stumbled at the North American box office with just $89.5 million, but Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions’ Terminator Genisys has pushed its worldwide gross to $409.5 million, topping the international box office for the second weekend in a row thanks to its continued strong performance in China.

This weekend saw Genisys adding a further $23.6 million from 25 markets, with $23.4 million of that coming from China, where it has so far earned $82.8 million since it debuted last Sunday and scored the fourth-biggest ever opening day for a Hollywood movie.

Before its opening in China, Genisys had been perceived as a box office flop, but is now closing in on Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines’ $433.4 million gross, which would place it second behind Terminator 2: Judgment Day ($519.8 million) in terms of the franchise’s biggest earners.

Oh, and it’s also the tenth-biggest movie of 2015. So, how long until we get confirmation on a sequel? »

Terminator Genisys tops Chinese box office, crosses $350 million worldwide

23 August 2015 1:42 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Almost two months after its release, Terminator Genisys has crossed the $350 million mark at the worldwide box office, thanks to a $27.4 million opening day in China today – the fourth biggest for a Hollywood movie in that market after Furious 7, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Terminator Genisys has pulled in just $89 million domestically, but has amassed a healthy $264 million internationally and should cross $400 million globally thanks to a strong showing in China. So, we might get to see that sixth Terminator movie after all…

Djimon Hounsou Talks Air Movie

16 August 2015 5:40 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Djimon Hounsou is nothing short of astonishing, bringing to life a character that might have confounded lesser actors,” says Sam Moffitt in his review for the sci-fi film Air.

Directed by Christian Cantamessa and co-written with Chris Pasetto, Air takes place in the near future where breathable air is nonexistent. Virtually all of humanity has disappeared and those chosen to reestablish society reside in a controlled state of suspended animation. Two engineers (Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou) tasked with guarding the last hope for mankind struggle to preserve their own sanity and lives while administering to their vital task at hand. (Trailer)

Playing in theaters and available on iTunes and Digital HD now, the film has the feel of a science fiction from the late seventies and eighties and features a nostalgic score from composer Edo Van Breemen.

Film Review: ‘Air’

14 August 2015 11:42 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The future is short of breath in “Air,” a sci-fi chamber piece with Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou as two grunts charged with maintaining an underground government bunker after chemical warfare has rendered the Earth’s surface uninhabitable. This irst feature for videogame designer/writer Christian Cantamessa has an intriguing premise and two capable stars, none of which is utilized as memorably as one might hope. Competently crafted but ultimately just Ok, the suspenser should be able to parlay its cast names’ appeal into decent returns in home-format sales. Limited theatrical opening on 15 U.S. screens Aug. 14 is occurring simultaneously with a VOD launch.

At the start, Bauer (Reedus) and Cartwright (Hounsou) rise from their sleep tanks, as they do every six months. Twice a year they’re roused from artificial slumber and given two hours’ worth of oxygen to complete the tasks necessary to keep this subterranean complex operating. »

Air – The Review

11 August 2015 9:40 AM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Humanity has almost disappeared.  A biologic weapon has gone viral and wiped out almost all human life on the planet.  Somehow a handful of intelligent, educated people are kept in suspended animation, far underground.  Tended to by a couple of engineers who are also in suspended animation, at 6 month intervals the two engineers are awakened, make sure the sleeping people are kept alive, and then go back to sleep.  During their time awake they have only one hour and 40 minutes of time to check all the systems, tend to the sleepers, take care of their own needs, and then go back to sleep.

But something goes wrong, doesn’t it always in science fiction?  Especially post apocalypse science fiction, of which Air is just about the most grim and depressing vision of a post collapse landscape I can imagine.

The two engineers are Norman Reedus as Bauer and Djimon Hounsou as Cartwright. »

Terminator: Genisys passes $300 million at the box office

27 July 2015 4:06 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It has been destroyed by critics (read our reviews here and here)and was called the Worst Blockbuster of All-Time by our own Anghus Houvouras – but Terminator: Genisys passed a milestone this weekend.

Terminator: Genisys added another $2.5 million to its domestic total and has now made $305 million worldwide, the majority of which has come from overseas. In the Us, the movie has made just $85 million, but its worldwide take of $219 million (taken mostly in South Korea, United Kingdom and Russia) has helped push the movie past the $300 million marker.

However, the movie cost a whopping $185 million – and that doesn’t include marketing costs – so there is still some way for it to go before it becomes “profitable”. Terminator: Genisys is currently the 14th biggest movie of the year, and is being outperformed by The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, Taken 3 and Mad Max: Fury Road. »

Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou are the last surviving humans in Walking Dead creator's Air trailer

16 July 2015 2:39 PM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou are the only humans left alive in the trailer for Air.

The thriller takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where nuclear fallout has left all air toxic for the human body.

Two men (Reedus and Hounsou) are responsible for keeping the last remnants of humanity alive in hyperbaric chambers underground.

As the chambers malfunction and tension between the men intensifies, humanity comes dangerously close to extinction.

The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman is re-teaming with Reedus to produce Air, which also stars spinoff Fear the Walking Dead's Sandrine Holt.

Air opens in Us cinemas and on on-demand services on August 14.

‘Terminator Genisys’ Review

Stars: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Matt Smith, Courtney B. In a summer which has felt a little light on truly “wow” blockbuster spectacles, Fury Road very much excepted, Terminator Genisys has had a particularly rough time of it. The film’s marketing certainly didn’t help, publicity stills of grinning Terminators and Matt Smith and Jai Courtney shouting into the air while firing guns set off alarm bells fairly early and the main trailer which spoilt one of the film’s pivotal moments immediately let those paying attention know that faith was not strong in the film. Upon release, word has been fairly noxious so it may be with lowered expectations in mind but while Terminator Genisys »

Terminator Genisys bombs at the Us box office

6 July 2015 2:48 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It has been met with a sea of bad reviews (read ours here and here), and it seems as though the cinema going public aren’t willing to buy into Terminator Genisys either.

The movie opened to third behind Jurassic World (in its fourth week) and Inside Out (in its third week) to take just $28.7 million domestically. With a reported budget of $150 million, that has to be a huge disappointment for the Terminator team, who were hoping this movie could lead to another trilogy of movies. The previous Terminator movie, Terminator: Salvation (which was also set to start a new trilogy of movies) opened to $42.5 million and was seen as a failure at the time.

Thankfully for Paramount, Terminator Genisys did perform well overseas, and has a worldwide box office total of $129.6 million. So it’s not all bad news. However, a domestic opening of $28 million could put into »

Terminator Genisys 3D steelbook announced

Zavvi has announced an exclusive Terminator Genisys 3D Limited Edition Steelbook which will include a 2D copy of the film. The final artwork for the edition is yet to be confirmed, but it is likely that the price, currently at £24.99, will not change before release.

The steelbook is limited to just 4000 copies, but after distinctly average reviews from fans and critics alike, I doubt the steelbook will sell out too quickly. Zavvi have given the steelbook an initial release date of December 31st, so don’t go putting it on your lists to Santa!

Director Alan Taylor discusses Terminator Genisys’ spoilery marketing campaign, says experience on Thor: The Dark World was “wrenching”

30 June 2015 2:31 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

If you’ve been paying close attention to the marketing campaign for Terminator Genisys, then you’ll know that Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions have given away a major plot point regarding Jason Clarke’s John Connor, both in the promotional trailers, and the character poster you can see to your left (apologies if you’d managed to avoid spoilers until now).

It certainly seemed baffling that the studio would choose to give away such a major twist, and judging from comments from director Alan Taylor during a promotional interview with Uproxx, it appears he’s a little puzzled by it all too:

“I certainly directed those scenes with the intention that no one would know. One of my favorite moments – and I think Jason Clarke did a great job with it – is when he walks into the hospital in 2017 and everything from there until the turn, you’re supposed to think, »
