Bill Pullman Doubles His Treasure at the Woodstock Film Festival

17 October 2017 5:00 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

During the Woodstock Film Festival’s Maverick Awards ceremony on Saturday night (Oct. 14), actor Bill Pullman graciously received an honorary award for Excellence In Acting and, as if on cue, allowed the trophy to fall to the floor and break in half. Holding up the pieces of his broken prize, Pullman quipped, “Oh my God, I’ve got two awards tonight!”

Maverick gestures aside, Pullman was also in Woodstock for the featured film “The Ballad of Lefty Brown,” an old-fashioned western drama, in which he stars. It screened at the Woodstock Playhouse for an enthusiastic crowd.

For the 2017 edition of the self-declared “fiercely independent” fest, currently in its 18th year and held Oct. 10 through 15, the programming was eco-friendly, class-conscious, gender-aware and racially sensitive — a fitting environment for the handful of host towns surrounding the area.

The Best Narrative Feature award went to the surreal comedy “Infinity Baby,” which was directed by Bob Byington and stars Kieran Culkin, [link »

The End is Nigh in First 'Maze Runner: The Death Cure' Teaser Trailer

25 September 2017 3:26 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"Every maze has an end." 20th Century Fox has finally unveiled the first teaser trailer for Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the third and final movie in the sci-fi series. This series had a small, humble beginning with a movie about a giant maze, then blew up into something much bigger with the second movie, The Scorch Trials, released in 2015. It definitely seems to be following in the footsteps of The Hunger Games, but there's an edge to it that makes it stand out in its own way. Dylan O'Brien stars as Thomas, and the full cast includes Kaya Scodelario, Walton Goggins, Nathalie Emmanuel, Katherine McNamara, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Rosa Salazar, Giancarlo Esposito, Patricia Clarkson, Barry Pepper, Ki Hong Lee, and Jacob Lofland. My first impression is that this actually looks pretty damn cool. Enjoy. Here's the teaser trailer (+ UK poster) for Wes Ball's Maze Runner: The Death Cure, from »

‘Stranger Things’ & ‘Westworld’: How a Sci-Fi Editing Race Could Lead to a Best Drama Win

For the past five seasons, the Best Drama editing winner has gone on to win the Best Drama prize as well. So if you want a potential barometer for this year’s big prize, the three crucial editing nominees are “Stranger Things,” “Westworld,” and “Better Call Saul.”

This doesn’t mean that “The Crown” or “The Handmaid’s Tale” won’t win Best Drama, but it’s noteworthy that they weren’t among the editing nominees. Neither were “House of Cards” or “This Is Us,” the other Best Drama nominees, as “Stranger Things” and “Better Call Saul” each got nominated for two episodes.

However, while “Better Call Saul” significantly saw Jimmy (nominated Bob Odenkirk) getting more Saul-like from “Breaking Bad,” it’s very much the dark horse. The real smackdown is between the dueling sci-fi newcomers, “Stranger Things” and “Westworld.” Both have their advantages (the Upside Down versus the robot »

This trailer for The Show, debuting on Et, is not for the faint of heart -- and if the preview alone requires a trigger warning, we cannot imagine how disturbing the full movie will be. The Show's rating should be indicative: R for "disturbing and violent content involving suicides, language throughout, and brief drug use."

Josh Duhamel plays Adam Rogers, a Chris Harrison-like host of a dating show that ends in an attempted shooting -- which is traumatic enough, until the network exec (played by X-Men actress Famke Janssen) decides to create an entire reality show about contestants killing themselves.
