New York – CBS can count on a sprinkling of star wattage for its live broadcast of the Tony Awards June 10, with Andrew Garfield, Hugh Jackman, Cynthia Nixon and Philip Seymour Hoffman among those likely to be trolling the red carpet. But as is often the case with Broadway’s annual honors list, what’s more notable are the boldface names excluded from the nominations lineup. This year’s high-profile shut-outs, some of whom were expected to nab a nomination, include Tyne Daly, Alan Rickman, Rachel Griffiths, Angela Lansbury, Matthew Broderick, Samuel L. Jackson, Angela Bassett, Hugh Dancy and Blair

With 37 productions in contention for this year's Tony Awards, there were plenty of surprises in Tuesday's nominations announcement. (See full list of nominations here.) Among the famous folk left off the list of contenders were a pair of two-time Tony winners: Matthew Broderick ("Nice Work If You Can Get It") and Bernadette Peters ("Follies"). Also snubbed was Emmy and Tony champ Tyne Daly for her role as opera diva Maria Callas in the nominated revival of "Master Class." And Emmy winners John Larroquette and Eric McCormack were edged out of the lead actor race by their co-star in "The Best Man" James Earl Jones. The new tuner "Leap of Faith" earned a Best Musical bid but its leading man, Raul Esparza, who has contended in all four acting categories, was denied a chance to finally win a Tony. "The Mountaintop" may have won the Olivier for Best Play two years ago, »

The Tony Awards season is heating up. The Tony administration committee met today to decide eligibility for various categories: One Man, Two Guvnors will compete for best (new) play despite a push from its producers to be considered in the less-competitive revival category (the comedy is loosely based on Carlo Goldoni’s 1743 play Servant of Two Masters). James Earl Jones will be up for Lead Actor in a Play for Gore Vidal’s The Best Man. Ricky Martin will contend as Featured Actor in a Musical even though his name is above the title of Evita. And in a real head-scratcher, »

The Drama League Awards may not be quite as prestigious as the Tonys, but they have a few years on them. Established in 1922 and made official in 1935 (the Tonys began in '47), the awards honor the best in theater both on and off Broadway. The League announced their nominations today, and the list includes many of the names we expect to be seeing from the Tonys when they announced their nominations next Tuesday. Raven-Symone (currently starring in "Sister Act" on Broadway), Megan Hilty and Justin Long announced the nominees for the awards' five categories -- Distinguished Production of a Play, Distinguished Production of a Musical, Distinguished Revival of a Play, Distinguished Revival of a Musical and the Distinguished Performance Award, for which more than 50 actors -- male and female -- were nominated. The winner can only receive the award once during his or her career, according to Broadway World, which »

But first, a list of un-fabulous things about last night's Mad Men: Pete's lack of screentime. The lack of jokes from Roger's wife Jane. Betty's blahness. No Lane Pryce either! Oh, and finally: That hallucination where Don strangled his ex-lover in real time. So scary! And unexpected! And freaky! It was like a scene from Hitchcock's Frenzy, where the Boston Strangler shows us how to murder people without any edits. I didn't really like the point the scene tried to make. Don so wants to erase his dirty past, maybe he'd go to violent means to achieve it. Get it? Great. Not that fabulous. Dream sequence over.
However, These five moments are downright fab. Am I missing any?
1. Anyone else find Don's flu smirk hot?
Starting off the ol' Fab Quotient with a confession: I don't find Jon Hamm sexy. Yes, he is dreadfully good-looking, slick, and dapper to an extreme, »

War veteran Magnum with his iconic red Ferrari is one of only five men in history to look better with a moustache
Natalie Haynes's guide to TV detectives #4: Patrick Jane
On a sunny day my thoughts turn, inevitably, to Hawaii. And when I think of Hawaii, I think of only one man, and that man is Thomas Magnum. Tom Selleck may not be the greatest actor in the world, but he doesn't need to be, because much of the point of Magnum is that he is a major hottie. This is something Tom Selleck carries off audaciously, as he is one of only five men in history to look better with a moustache. (The others are Burt Reynolds, Dick Van Dyke, Jean Dujardin and Clark Gable).
Selleck was the first choice to play Indiana Jones, so it's no wonder that Magnum is a bit of an action hero. »

Sure, "Diner" is a landmark movie, one that launched numerous careers (including those of Kevin Bacon, Mickey Rourke, Ellen Barkin, and director Barry Levinson). But is it really the most influential movie of the last 30 years? Vanity Fair seems to think so. According to an article in the March 2012 issue, "Diner" -- released 30 years ago today, on March 5, 1982 -- is indirectly responsible for "Seinfeld," "The Office," "Pulp Fiction," and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin." Such writers as Nick Hornby, Stephen Merchant, and Judd Apatow acknowledge its impact on the way they write scenes that others omit, scenes were guys reveal what matters most to them by chatting over coffee about things that don't matter at all. Like its trivia-obsessed characters, "Diner" is full of unspoken tales beneath the surface. Even fans may not know how closely life imitated art in the alliances, rivalries, pranks, and power games that helped make the movie »
