TF1 Studio Celebrates One Year as French Film Banner

TF1 Studio is about to turn one year old. France’s largest commercial network launched the vertically integrated film banner in May as a way to consolidate their disparate acquisition, development and multi-platform distribution channels.

By centralizing its organization, unifying aims and offering partners a single point of contact, TF1 Studio execs say a clear brand and a steady hand will give them a competitive advantage in the country’s ever-difficult film distribution marketplace.

Run by Nathalie Toulza-Madar and Tristan du Laz, and overseen by TF1 Entertainment director Olivier Jacobs — he is also responsible for TF1 Films, a co-financing and production subsidiary that is nonetheless wholly apart — TF1 Studio will partner with local distributors for 12 theatrical releases this year, and up to 15 in the years to come.

Berenice Bejo Joins Indian Star Dhanush in Ken Scott’s ‘Journey’ (Exclusive)

Berenice Bejo, the Oscar-nominated actress of “The Artist,” is set to star in “The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir,” an adventure-fantasy film directed by “Starbuck” helmer Ken Scott. TF1 Studio is selling the film.

One of the most ambitious English-language titles on the slate of the recently rebranded TF1 Studios, “The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir” will also topline Indian star Dhanush, Erin Moriarty, Barkhad Abdi, Laurent Lafitte, and Abel Jafri.

The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir” was initially set to be directed by “Persepolis” helmer Marjane Satrapi. Scott came on board a few months ago to rework the script and direct the movie, which is scheduled to begin shooting in May in Mumbai, Paris, Brussels, and Rome.

Exclusive: Comedy centres on woman who wakes up one morning with something extra.

Elle Driver is reporting brisk business on Audrey Dana’s comedy If I Were A Boy following a packed screening at the Unifrance Rendez-vous With French Cinema in Paris, which runs from January 12-16.

Popular French actress Dana directs and stars as the unlucky-in-love heroine Jeanne – a recently-divorced single mother who has sworn off men.

One morning she wakes up with a penis – a development that mystifies her gynaecologist and results in some quirky situations as Jeanne navigates her way – emotionally and physically – through the unprecedented development.

Other cast members include Serial (Bad) Weddings star Christian Clavier; Eric Elmosnino, whose recent credits include the hit La Famille Bélier; and Alice Belaïdi (A Little Job, The Climb).

TF1 Studio Scores Deals on UniFrance Rdv’s Standout ‘Alibi.com’ (Exclusive)

Paris– TF1 Studio has scored a raft of sales on Philippe Lacheau’s high-concept comedy “Alibi.com,” a highlight at UniFrance’s mini-market Rendez-Vous with French Cinema in Paris.

The film turns on Greg (Lacheau), whose new startup alibi.com, a service allowing people to pay big bucks to come up with creatives lies in order to hide their double lives, is a major success. But Greg’s job starts to become highly problematic once he meets the girl of his dreams, Flo, whose father happens to be a client of Alibi.com.

Directed and penned by Lacheau, who is behind some of France’s biggest comedy hits such as “All Gone South,””Babysitting” and “Paris or Perish,” “Alibi.com” has stirred a large buzz at the Rendez-Vous where it had its market premiere.

French Comedy Heavyweights Christian Clavier, Catherine Frot Star in ‘Finding Mom’ (Exclusive)

Paris – A pair of French comedy heavyweights, Christian Clavier (“Serial Bad Weddings”) and Catherine Frot (“Marguerite”), are set to star in “Finding Mom,” the big-screen adaptation of the popular French play “Momo.”

TF1 Studio is handling international sales on the film and will introduce it to buyers at the UniFrance Rendez-Vous with French Cinema, which kicks off tomorrow in Paris.

The director of the play, Sebastien Thiéry, is directing “Finding Mom” with Vincent Lobelle, and wrote the script in collaboration with the actress Pascale Arbillot, who also stars in the film.

“Finding Mom” turns on André (Clavier) and Laurence Prioux (Frot) as a middle-class couple whose tranquil life in an upscale suburb of northern France gets turned upside down by the arrival of a deaf and mute man who claims to be their son.
