"Star Trek" actor Chris Pine has been attached to "Moscow", Paramount's reboot of Jack Ryan franchise, for quite some time as the project has picked up heat and stalled in a seemingly endless loop in recent years. In Cannes this week, Empire Online asked the actor as to the film's current status.
"The latest is that it looks like it’s happening. We have a script, and the beginnings of the production are happening" says Pine who also admits he's already talked with one of the former Jack Ryan actors, Alec Baldwin, about taking on the role. Kenneth Branagh is the latest linked to direct this project.
Can Tom Clancy's hero still work in this day and age? "The trick with that one is to try to find a way to make an American spy movie in 2012 that’s just as current and apropos to the world situation, what »

The saga of the tentatively-titled Moscow, Paramount’s much talked about reboot of the Jack Ryan franchise, has been the ultimate ‘will they/won’t they’ saga, making Ross & Rachel look like a one-night stand. Directors have come and gone, writers have whirled around on a revolving door, but one thing has remained steady: Chris Pine.Pine has been attached to the reboot of Tom Clancy’s cerebral spy series since 2009, and when we spoke to him in Cannes, we asked him for the latest. “The latest is that it looks like it’s happening,” he said. “We have a script [by, among others, David Koepp], and the beginnings of the production are happening.”Kenneth Branagh is going to sit in the hotseat for the movie which, rumour has it, will see Ryan – working in Russia – framed as an American spy and forced to go on the run, Bourne-style. Even while actor Chris Pine floats around space thanks to the production of helmer J.J. Abrams' “Star Trek 2,” it would look as if he’s lining up his next projects once he returns from the Enterprise deck. One option could be that he takes the role of the Tom Clancy-created character Jack Ryan for another spin at Paramount, which we’re not really sure we want to see, but it seems he could take an altogether more promising route that offers him work both in front of, and for the first time, behind the camera.
Deadline has word that Pine is serving as both co-writer and star of the independent comedy “Mantivities” for the Waterstone Entertainment banner, with a script by Pine and a literal army of his bros, including Will Greenberg, Drew Howerton, Robert Baker, Ian Gotler and Tony Liebetrau. “Reno 911” and “Drop Dead Gorgeous” helmer »

At the press line before Paramount's CinemaCon presentation, ComingSoon.net had a chance to talk with superstar producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura about G.I. Joe: Retaliation and before he was whisked away, we quickly asked him about some of the other projects he had in the works including Red 2 . One long-in-development he's excited about finally making happen is the Untitled Jack Ryan Project , starring Chris Pine, which he hopes to start shooting in September, presumably with Kenneth Branagh ( Thor ) who has been in negotiations to direct. Di Bonaventra's exact optimistic words when talking about the project were: "I think we're going to go this September. It looks pretty good right now. Not guaranteed but hopefully..." It's now been a decade since we last saw the popular Tom Clancy character Jack Ryan on screen in The Sum of All Fears, but Paramount has been working (for some time now) to bring his adventures back to moviegoers. Chris Pine has been attached to play the lead for a while now, but even that hasn't gotten things moving very fast. Last week director Jack Bender (Lost) exited the project, creating yet another setback. Luckily, Kenneth Branagh has stepped up to the plate and, if his deal goes through, Paramount will put the untitled film back on the front burner. The movie has gone through several rewrites, but David Koepp has most recently come on for a polish with the idea that production could start after Pine wraps Star Trek 2. The prospect of Branagh directing a Jack Ryan film would have been surprising a few years ago, but »

News has broken that the new Jack Ryan movie has found a new director after Jack Bender vacated the project last week. His replacement will be Brit-stalwart Kenneth Branagh, who last summer showed he was capable of helming a big-budget blockbuster when Marvel’s Thor became a huge hit.
Branagh was the surprise choice for Thor, the actor and director was more famed for bringing Shakespeare’s works to screen and the much-maligned Mary Shelley’S Frankenstein. Paramount obviously feel he’s the right man to take over the project with a decision that comes rather soon after the news of Bender’s exit.
Tom Clancy’s CIA analyst and all-round American hero, has been portrayed by Alec Baldwin in The Hunt For Red October (1990), Harrison Ford in Patriot Games (1992) and Clear And Present Danger (1994) and finally Ben Affleck in The Sum Of All Fears (2002).

EW has confirmed a Variety report that Thor director Kenneth Branagh is in negotiations to direct the yet untitled Jack Ryan film for Paramount.
Based on the character created by Tom Clancy (and previously portrayed by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck), Chris Pine (Star Trek) is on board to star, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing. A source close to the negotiations says they’re hoping to start production in September.
Branagh, an Oscar nominee, most recently for his supporting role in My Week With Marilyn, proved he could direct more than just art-house fare when Thor pulled in $449 million worldwide. »

Looks like the Untitled Jack Ryan Movie is finally a priority for Paramount, who have hired Kenneth Branagh as a replacement for Lost director Jack Bender, who exited the project last week.
The studio was reportedly searching for a new director "in haste," and with less than a week since Bender's departure, the addition of Branagh signals that they are serious about their first Jack Ryan movie to feature the Tom Clancy character since 2002's The Sum of All Fears. That is, if Branagh officially commits.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that director Jack Bender has decided to drop out of Jack Ryan, a Tom Clancy creation who has previously been played by Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games/Clear and Present Danger) and Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears). However, the film is still going ahead with a tentative release date set for either 2013 or 2014. Thor director Kenneth Branagh is now in talks to helm the project which will still include Star Trek's Chris Pine as the CIA analyst. Paramount are reportedly planning to start production this September and have hired Spider-Man screenwriter David Koepp to rewrite the script. »

About a week ago, we learned that Jack Bender ("Alcatraz") dropped out of directing the new Jack Ryan film, called "Moscow," due to a scheduling conflict with his television projects. Paramount Pictures was hoping to begin shooting as soon as Chris Pine, who will be playing Jack Ryan, completed shooting the "Star Trek" sequel. The goal has been to meet that start date, which is why the studio immediately started looking for Bender's replacement. Variety is now reporting that Kenneth Branagh (Thor) is in negotiations to direct. The new movie is based on the character created by Tom Clancy. That character has previously been played by Alec Baldwin in "The Hunt for Red October," Harrison Ford in "Patriot Games" and "Clear and Present Danger," and Ben Affleck in "The Sum of All Fears." »

Just over a week ago director Jack Bender was forced to depart the untitled fifth Jack Ryan project in development at Paramount Pictures and Skydance Pictures due to his already heavy workload.
Now, the studios have found a replacement - Kenneth Branagh according to Variety. The actor and filmmaker, who helmed money-spinner "Thor" for Paramount last year, is reportedly in talks to take over the gig. Should he sign the project would once again become a priority at the studio.
Chris Pine ("Star Trek") is still attached to play Tom Clancy's character while the likes of David Koepp and Steve Zaillian have done work on the script which aims to reboot the franchise which has seen four films onscreen including "The Hunt for Red October," "Patriot Games," "Clear and Present Danger" and "The Sum of All Fears".

For Kenneth Branagh, there is life beyond the realm of Asgard.
Paramount is looking to the "Thor" director to revive their on-again, off-again attempt to bring CIA superstar "Jack Ryan" back into action, according to Vulture.
"Star Trek" star Chris Pine is attached to play the title role in the reboot of the Tom Clancy spy franchise, which has been in development for several years. Jack Bender ("Lost") had signed on to direct the project but recently dropped out due to the endless creative differences over what direction the film should go in.
Luckily, David Koepp recently turned in a draft of the screenplay that manages to be the character-driven espionage story that Pine wants, the action movie that producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura wants and the smart thriller that Paramount executives want. No small task -- and the final piece of the puzzle seems to have fallen into place with Branagh being approached to direct. »

It looks as though Paramount has quickly found a replacement for the new Jack Ryan movie. At first Jack Bender was attached to direct the movie, but had to drop out due to prior TV obligations, now Vulture is reporting that Thor director Kenneth Branagh is in talks to direct the movie, which sees Star Trek star Chris Pine taking on the role of Jack Ryan.
But another reason why Jack Bender left the job was because there were just to many writers taking a stab at the movie, and with so many ideas penned on the script, the movie went through a prolonged developmental process. Then producer Lorzeno di Bonaventura and Paramount execs had creative differences of their own. Bonaventura wanted an action movie, but the Paramount Execs wanted a thriller. And screenwriter David Koepp turned in a script that would supposedly make the two parties happy.

It seems that Paramount’s reboot of the ‘Jack Ryan’ franchise may not be as dead in the water as everyone thought. Following on from last week’s news that original director Jack Bender vacated the director’s, now comes word from Variety that Paramount and Skydance have wasted no time in securing a replacement with news that ‘Thor’ director Kenneth Branagh is in talks to take over the reins of the project.
After Bender departed the project due to those pesky scheduling conflicts, it seemed that Tom Clancy’s CIA analyst hero would not be making a return to the big screen, but with news now of Branagh stepping in, it seems that the project is once again full steam ahead for Paramount.

Things did not look good for Jack Ryan, Tom Clancy's perennial hero, last week when "Lost" producer Jack Bender dropped out as director of his next adventure due to scheduling conflicts, but a director from the Marvel universe may be stepping in.
Variety is reporting that Kenneth Branagh is not circling the next Jack Ryan project as Bender's replacement.
Interest in the project has been high since "Star Trek"'s Chris Pine signed on to reprise the role previously played Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck. This would be the first Jack Ryan movie since 2002's "The Sum of All Fears."

Though he's not set to return for the sequel to his big hit Thor, Kenneth Branagh is apparently not done stepping into the director's chair behind very, very big movies. According to Variety, he's been selected as the new director for the next movie about Jack Ryan, the character created by Tom Clancy who will be revived by Chris Pine. The untitled film will presumably be in the vein of previous Ryan adventures like The Hunt For Red October and A Clear and Present Danger, and really nothing at all like Branagh's previous films Hamlet, Dead Again and As You Like It (among others). Lost veteran Jack Bender was on board for a long time to handle this new spy thriller, but he backed out last week, making a lot of us believe the long-gestating project might just disappear. But with Branagh on board and on the heels of Thor, »
