‘Westworld’ Set for Fall Premiere at HBO

26 May 2016 12:07 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

HBO has slated drama “Westworld” for a fall premiere, following delays that temporarily halted production on the series earlier this year. The network has also set comedies “Divorce,” “Insecure,” and “High Maintenance” to debut in the fall.

As Variety first reported, HBO shut down production of “Westworld” in January after the project fell behind schedule — previously having been slated to wrap production two months prior. Filming resumed three months later.

No specific premiere date has yet been set for any of the shows.

Production delays on “Westworld” were among a series of recent hitches in HBO’s scripted development that preceded this week’s departure of Michael Lombardo from his role as programming president of the network. Miniseries “Lewis & Clark,” from producers Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, suspended production in August and was put into redevelopment. HBO suspended drama series “Utopia” from David Fincher that same month, and »

Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell are returning for Daddy's Home 2...

Whilst Star Wars: The Force Awakens was taking lots of money last Christmas, so another movie was quietly mopping up a few quid of its own. Daddy’s Home, starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell in the lead roles, earned $240m worldwide pretty much without anyone noticing. Well, scrub that: Paramount Pictures noticed, and it’s ordering a sequel.

Daddy’s Home 2 will see both Wahlberg and Ferrell return in the lead roles, with Sean Anders and John Morris back to pen the screenplay. Furthermore, Sean Anders is directing again as well.

It’s unclear as of yet whether Linda Cardellini, Thomas Haden Church and Hannibal Buress will be returning too. But the chances of that, we suggest, are quite high.

More on Daddy’s Home 2 as we hear it…

22 April 2016 11:59 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Paramount is pushing ahead with Daddy’s Home 2, bringing together the entire dysfunctional family that helped fire the original comedy to a relatively healthy box office haul – to the tune of $240 million, no less.

Of those family members on board for the sequel are director Sean Anders (Horrible Bosses 2, Mean Moms) and perhaps most important of all, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. Yes, Paramount’s two warring patriarchs are ready for round two, and the studio will be hoping to build another comedic crowd-pleaser on the pair’s undeniable chemistry.

No details were disclosed regarding the story, but we do know that John Morris will once again take point for scripting duties. Further still, Paramount didn’t allude to the chances of Hannibal Buress, Linda Cardelini and/or Thomas Haden Church reprising their roles from Daddy’s Home, though expect more details to arise as the comedy sequel inches closer to a production start. »

Diverse, awe-inspiring and memorable treasures that have sadly fallen off the radar

The noughties were a tough decade for film music fans. Not only was there the unprecedented loss of four great masters in the form of Jerry Goldsmith, Elmer Bernstein, Michael Kamen and Basil Poledouris; the nature of the industry itself began to go through some seismic changes, not all of them for the better.

With the art of film scoring becoming ever more processed, driven increasingly by ghost writers, electronic augmentation and temp tracks, prospects looked bleak. However, this shouldn’t shield the fact that there were some blindingly brilliant scores composed during this period. Here’s but a small sampling of them.

The first decade and a half of the 21st century has brought a lot of changes to the landscape of film. The advancement and sophistication of computers has made realistic computer generated effects a mainstay in both big-budget and small-budget films. The internet and streaming technologies have given big Hollywood new competition in films produced independently and by non-traditional means. We went from purchasing films on yards of tape to plastic disks, and now we can simply upload them to the cloud.
