'Fringe' Season 4 finale: No one ever really dies in scifi

11 May 2012 9:03 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Oh "Fringe," how you play with our emotions! This review is chock full of spoilers, so look away if you haven't watched "Worlds Apart: Part 2" yet. The impact of the big moment with Olivia (Anna Torv) would have been even more difficult to take if the writers put that in the ending they shot, should the show not be picked up. Not sure anyone's heart could have taken that.

The Observer prophecy about Olivia having to die in any scenario was real. After finding out that she was the power source to create a new universe, Walter (John Noble) shot her in the forehead. Did anyone else jump out of their seat? We all knew you could bring someone back for a few moments. We saw it with the incredibly, horribly creepy, eye-jerking final moments with Jessica Holt (Rebecca Mader). But all that cortexiphan brought Olivia fully back to life! »

10 May 2012 11:03 AM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"Fringe" has had some great villains over the years, but the return of Leonard Nimoy as William Bell in the first part of the season finale "Worlds Apart" might mean the end of both universes. Bell wants to create his own new world and it doesn't matter who dies in the attempt.

After four seasons, we want to know who your favorite villain is. The nefarious David Robert Jones (Jared Harris)? Alt Nina (Blair Brown)? Belly? Or is it someone else? Vote for your choice in our poll.

Before the finale, check in to Get Glue to relive some of your favorite moments with "Fringe" stickers like the ones below. What was your favorite moment? We want to hear your thoughts. "Fringe" airs Friday nights on Fox.

TV Review: Fringe 4.19, ‘Letters of Transit’

21 April 2012 11:22 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

This episode takes us into another dystopian future like in the Season 3 finale, only this time; the world has been taken over by Observers! Set in 2036, the exposition explains that the Observers, who once only watched human history, now police it. In 2015 they seized control of the human population. Those who survived are called Natives. Those who serve the Observers are called Loyalists. Fringe Division has been utilized to police the Natives and crush any resistance.

Fringe Agent Etta (Georgina Haig) serves as the protagonist for the episode. She leads a double life as part of the resistance with her superior Agent Simon Foster (Henry Ian Cusick). The opening sequence serves to establish the nature of this new future, where the Observers can basically go around doing whatever they want, and people have to put up with it.

'Fringe': 'Letters of Transit' keeps the episode 19 tradition alive -- We want to know what you thought!

20 April 2012 8:01 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

This is huge. The things that happen in "Fringe" episode 19, "Letters of Transit," will blow your mind. Not that it hasn't already been blown open by episode 19 in every season, but something is revealed in this one that is going to change everything.

There was an audible gasp in the room in the last five minutes. The thing is, the reveal isn't even the best thing about the episode. Henry Ian Cusick (what did he do to our fair lady?) and Georgina Haig kept us riveted to the screen. They couldn't have cast it better, if you know what we mean.

The setting is 2036. The Observers have taken over. Those loyal to them are called "loyalists" and tattooed on the face. Other humans are the "natives." The feel is post-apocalyptic and actually a little "Hunger Games." It's a police state, and the Fringe division is working for the Observers -- or are they? »

DVD Playhouse—April 2012

By Allen Gardner

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (Warner Bros.) An eleven year-old boy (newcomer Thomas Horn, in an incredible debut) discovers a mysterious key amongst the possessions of his late father (Tom Hanks) who perished in 9/11. Determined to find the lock it matches, the boy embarks on a Picaresque odyssey across New York City. Director Stephen Daldry and screenwriter Eric Roth have fashioned a film both grand and intimate, beautifully-adapted from Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel, thought by most who read it to be unfilmable. Fine support from Jeffrey Wright, Sandra Bullock, John Goodman, Viola Davis and the great Max von Sydow. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Featurettes. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS-hd 5.1 surround.

Battle Royale: The Complete Collection (Anchor Bay) Adapted from Koushun Takami’s polarizing novel (compared by champions and detractors alike as a 21st century version of A Clockwork Orange) and set in a futuristic Japan, »

As we have done weekly since Fringe returned from the last break, we first present you with the latest edition of John Noble waxing poetic about Walter’s involvement in last week’s episode. Entitled “Noble Intentions,” these featurettes are a treat. In last week’s installment he talked about the very sweet scene between Walter and Peter when Walter brought out all the yearly birthday presents. This week’s is equally sweet, and features another fan-favorite character, as you can see.

Fringe's Top-Secret, Twisty Episode 19: What Do the First Photos Reveal?

11 April 2012 11:14 AM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Ok, so now there is this.

While the very real future of Fox’s Fringe still hangs in the balance, the network has let slip with a handful of episodic photos from the annually “out there” Episode 19, which this time around is titled “Letters of Transit.”

The title is of course a nod to the (fictional) documents that drive the narrative of the 1942 cinematic classic Casablanca, papers that ostensibly allow a person to travel freely and without question during World War II. And per Fox’s official synopsis, “the story jumps ahead to 2036 when the Observers and the Fringe team engage in a game-changing battle. »

TV Review: Fringe 4.17, ‘Everything in its Right Place’

7 April 2012 9:10 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Finally we get to see some action on the other side, something that’s been a little lacking this season. ‘Our’ Lincoln (Seth Gabel) goes to the other side to help Fauxlivia (Anna Torv) and Alt Lincoln track down a vigilante killer. As we whittle our way down to the last episodes of the season (and maybe the series), there’s going to be plenty of spoiler material. There’s a major development this week and I’m not going to write around it, so only read on if you’ve seen the episode.

Unlike the titular Radiohead song suggests, we begin with everything very much in its wrong place. Lincoln, who began the season as a new recruit to Fringe Division, developed an unspoken attraction for Olivia. Whether she felt the same way we will never know for sure, although the signs were certainly suggestive. »

Q & A With Fringe’s Blair Brown – The Nina, The Meana, and the Massive Dynamic Between Them

30 March 2012 5:03 PM, PDT | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

It’s Fringe Friday and to mark a new Fringe episode, we’ve got this quick Q&As with Blair Brown who plays Nina, head of Massive Dynamic. In support of Fringe Social networking use the hashtag #Changeyourworld starting at 8Pm Est, building towards tonight’s episode.

Could you talk about your alternate version of Nina?

Bb: I had always wondered, ‘Where’s my alternate?’ It eventually came along and they were discussing what she should be, ‘She should be a crazy woman, a bag lady, and so out there because she’s so controlled. Then I get these scripts and they say she looks the same, she talks the same, and I thought, “bummer.” [Laughs] And then I got that one script, where I went, “Yyyyes! I get it now. And that is the fun of it. The last eight scripts of the season are very surprising. Then there’s »

Q & A With Fringe’s Seth Gabel – Face to Face With Himself

It’s Fringe Friday and to mark a new Fringe episode, we’ve got this quick Q&As with Seth Gabel who plays Agent Lincoln Lee. In support of Fringe Social networking use the hashtag #Changeyourworld starting at 8Pm Est, building towards tonight’s episode.

What did you think of Josh Jackson’s comic he recently wrote that tells what happened to Peter between the end of Season 3 and when he first appeared in Season 4?

This is going to sound like I’m puffing up the show but I just read Beyond the Fringe on the airplane coming here and I didn’t realize he had written it until after I was halfway through and I said, “The writing on this is incredible, who wrote this?” Then I saw that it was by Josh Jackson and went, “Holy crap, this is amazing!” If people haven’t read that, it’s »

TV Review: Fringe 4.15, ‘A Short Story About Love’

24 March 2012 6:31 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

So after another hiatus, which seems to happen an awful lot with Fringe, Olivia (Anna Torv) and the team return to hunt down one of the more disturbing serial killers of this season, a troubled burn victim (the awesome Michael Massee) who tracks down couples in love, murders the male partner and extracts his pheromones, then taunts the female partner with the scent of her lover, before murdering her as well. A warning to anyone who is yet to see the episode, the opening murder is pretty damn grim.

While this is going on, Peter (Joshua Jackson) goes on a solo treasure hunt of sorts involving everyone’s favourite Observer, September (Michael Cerveris) and Olivia also deals with her multiple memory syndrome.

To kick things of, we learn that Olivia is now losing her true memories (or false, depending on how you look at it). They »

Fringe 4.15 "A Short Story About Love" Review

Fringe 4.15 "A Short Story About Love" Review

Despite its science-y weirdness, Fringe is a show dedicated to the superiority of love. The show argues that love is something that doesn't adhere to the rules of science. It's something that can bring universes together, and it's something that can shatter them. "A Short Story About Love," the March 23 episode of Fringe, is ultimately part of a much longer story about love. But does the episode serve as a representative microcosm of the rest of the series, as any episode bearing such a title ultimately should? The answer is yes, though not without a few flaws.

"A Short Story About Love" thankfully put an end to the most frustrating part of season 4 so far: the contrived mystery of where Peter is. It's been obvious to most fans since the outset that Peter is in an altered version of his own timeline, but »
