Pakistani minister demands apology from Mohenjo Daro makers

6 September 2016 9:50 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

While Mohenjo Daro failed to make a mark at the box-office, the film has now received flak from a Pakistani Minister who has gone a step ahead and demanded an apology. Sindh Minister for Culture and Antiquities, Sardar Ali Shah was miffed with the distortion of the facts in the film and hence has decided to approach the makers for the same. Apparently, Sardar Ali Shah accused that the film had mocked a highly respected culture and a 5000 year old civilization. Claiming that Mohenjo Daro was merely a figment of the director's imagination, he also mentioned that the film has no connection with history whatsoever. Considering that Mohenjo Daro has been included in the list of heritage sites of Unesco, the Pakistani Minister also added that he was really upset with the makers about portrayal of facts in the film and will soon convey his opinion to the makers of the film. »

Film Review: ‘Mohenjo Daro’

16 August 2016 11:46 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

In recent years, the main reason to see a Hrithik Roshan movie was to bask in the star’s magnificence. The standard description, “Greek God,” is an entirely accurate assessment of Roshan’s celestial beauty. Plus he can dance. So it may seem a little churlish to complain that “Mohenjo Daro” takes a similar trajectory to his superhero franchise “Krrish,” without the goofy humor: a simple man given to wearing tight-fitting shirts (or no shirt at all) goes from childish naïveté to hero status and saves the girl, or the city, or the world. Here he saves a civilization, the Bronze Age Indus Valley society known as Mohenjo-daro, thanks to his brawn and strength of character. Expectedly epic though disappointingly weak in production numbers (there are only two major dance sequences), the film re-teams director Ashutosh Gowariker, composer A.R. Rahman and Roshan for the first time since “Jodhaa Akbar,” a better film by far. »

‘Mohenjo Daro’ Review: Hrithik Roshan’s Star Power Can’t Save This Bollywood Misfire

13 August 2016 1:43 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

In 2001, Ashutosh Gowarikar’s “Lagaan” became the third Indian film in history to receive an Oscar nomination. The story, featuring villagers in British India who challenge their rulers’ tax impositions with a game of cricket, established Gowarikar as one of India’s leading filmmakers. It also triggered his preference for period dramas of epic proportions; he followed it up with 2008’s “Jodhaa Akbar,” a less dynamic but lavish fictional rendition of the love story between the famous Mughal emperor and his Hindu wife. A few forgettable films later, Gowarikar has returned to his favorite genre with “Mohenjo Daro.”

Based on the city at the heart of the Indus Valley Civilization, the film is an ambitious attempt to paint a portrait of a relatively obscure slice of the past. But the same writer-director who set the bar for historical fiction 15 years ago doesn’t meet it even halfway now—bloated and tiresome, »

We all know athletes all around the world are participating in the Rio Olympics 2016. As far as Indian athletes are concerned, entire nation including Bollywood celebs are coming out in support of them. Hrithik Roshan, who is already supporting our athletes, cheered the refugee participants as well. On Wednesday, Syrian swimmer Yusra Mardini participated in her match which also happened to be her last as well. She bowed out of the competition after competing in the 100-meter race because she believed she had helped open the world's eyes to the unfortunate condition of homeless. Hrithik Roshan, who has been following the Olympics, came out in support of athlete and wrote, "Tonight I cheer for Yusra Mardini, a real-life hero who saved lives through her swimming and is part of refugee Olympic athletes team. It's incredibly cool to have included displaced sportsmen in Olympics. This time as refugee Olympic team. They don't have a nation. »

Mohenjo Daro Movie Review

12 August 2016 5:53 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

There are a few films that don’t really need to be dissected to establish what was wrong with them. In fact the number of things wrong makes for such a long list that a simple sitting of the film establishes this quite clearly. Mohenjo Daro is that film. It’s a film that many will be willing to bet the makers never sat through themselves, because had that been the case, the film would have never been released from captivity to unleash terror onto unassuming audiences (or so you hope).

Within a minute of the film beginning with a man vs alligator duel you realise that you should safely exit the cinema hall before it gets worse, but of course, you’ve paid the ticket price by then so you give it a chance. And before you know it you are sitting there trying to sink lower than possible »

Film Review: ‘Bazodee’

5 August 2016 12:00 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Three different cultural traditions come together in “Bazodee”: the melodrama of Bollywood, the calypso-infused Indo-Caribbean “Soca” music of Trinidad and Tobago, and the sitcom humor and aesthetics of American TV. This uneasy hybrid from director Todd Kessler, former showrunner and co-creator of small-screen kids staple “Blue’s Clues,” never finds its rhythm while detailing the tumultuous romantic dilemma that befalls a young woman smitten with real-life Soca superstar Machel Montano’s musician. Devoid of drama and light on memorable melodies, it’s apt to find scant appeal outside its niche target audience.

As one of the most popular Soca acts in the world, Montano is undeniably “Bazodee’s” biggest draw, though he proves a rather one-note presence in this, his acting debut. As admired singer Lee de Leon, Montano smiles brightly but emotes clunkily, which would be a more significant hindrance to the proceedings were it not for the »

A few facts about the city ‘Mohenjo Daro’ before we watch the film

29 July 2016 1:00 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

The trailer of the much awaited film Mohenjo Daro, starring Bollywood Megastar Hrithik Roshan, was released recently and opened to rave reviews. It enthralled the audiences with magnificence of the Indus Valley civilisation.

The film is set in 2016 BC in the ancient city of Mohenjo-daro in the era of the Indus Valley civilization. Here are a few things about the great Indus Valley civilization which flourished on this planet.

The City of Mohenjo Daro

The words ‘Mohenjo Daro’ literally translate to ‘the mound of the dead’ in Sindhi. The historical city’s original name is not Mohenjo Daro. Nobody knows what the real name is, as the Harrappan scripture has still not been deciphered!

This ancient city was discovered in 1922

When a few Indus Valley sites and cities like Harappa and Lothal were excavated in 1922, the city of Mohenjo-daro was also among them, and that is when the name came to be. »

The Music Of ‘Mohenjo Daro’ Celebrates The Grandeur Of That Era

28 July 2016 12:00 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

The partnership of filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker and award-winning music composer A. R. Rahman has given us some splendid music in the past. Add to that, the soul-stirring lyrics of Javed Akhtar and you know that the outcome is a winner. The album of Mohenjo Daro can easily be listed as one of the best works by the music maestro of late. Though there is no written record of any sounds of that era, A R Rahman has done a wonderful job recreating the feel of the period.

The Mohenjo Daro music album begins with the title track, Mohenjo Mohenjo which is an apt start to such a grand, epic romance. Led by Arijit Singh, the song boasts of a range of singers like Bela Shende, Sanah Moidutty and A R Rahman himself. The amazing African influences to the music is what sets it apart.

The second song on the list is Sindhu Ma, »
