I was shocked and disgusted to learn that Lars von Trier killed a donkey during the shooting of Manderlay, his last movie. The animal who dies in the script was actually killed on the set, which was a decision made by the director.
This is the most appalling fact in recent film-making. We live in the 21st century, and there is a famous director who is making a movie about slavery, of all things. And he feels free to just kill an innocent animal in order to add "shock value" to his movie.
