Santa Claus Conquers The Stage!

23 December 2009 11:29 AM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

The greatest UFO incident of all time was not Roswell or Area 51--it was when little green men landed in the North Pole and attempted to kidnap Santa Claus!  This occurred in the grade Z atrocity, Santa Claus Conquers The Martians.

Everyone knows Santa Claus Conquers The Martians, the 45-year old bad movie that surfaces this time of year on late night TV and at 99-Cents Only Stores.  It's #77 on the IMDb's "Bottom 100" of the worst movies of all time.

The legendary made-in-New Jersey bomb that pits the Christmas Crusader against backwards aliens who know nothing about our Yuletide traditions, is a goofy holiday perennial best known for introducing the world to Pia Zadora, who played the Martian daughter, Girmar..

The Maverick Theater in Fullerton, California lives up to their name by staging a faithful adaptation of Santa Claus Conquers The Martians that simultaneously takes the piss out of it! »

I Heart Camp! No, Not The Kind With Tents!

I have no taste. That's the general consensus from my friends, who are by turns bewitched, bothered, and bewildered by my obsession with camp, especially when it comes to films and 80's pop culture. Things came to a head last week when I invited some of them to a special screening in my house of the 2006 remake of The Wicker Man. For those unfamiliar with it, here's a clip of some the movie's greatest scenes. Enjoy!

"How'd it get burned? How'd it get burned? How did the Bees in my eyes get Burned?

There is absolutely nothing better than Nic Cage at his most spastic. The Wicker Man had Nic in full looney-tunes mode, along with the most unintentionally hilarious script to come along in many a moon. Plus it also had the great Ellen Burstyn looking like Braveheart's crazy grandma. »

World's Worst Director Admits It

17 February 2009 11:32 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

This weekend, Uwe Boll will be "honored" by the Golden Raspberry Awards, which for 30 years or so has laid the smack down on cinematic lowlights as far reaching as Pia Zadora and Battlefield Earth.

Boll will receive the Worst Career Achievement award, for a body of work that includes two BloodRayne movies (and somehow, a third on the way), House of the Dead, In the Name of the King, the 9/11 satire, Postal, and about a half-dozen journalists Boll bloodied in a boxing ring for saying negative things about him.

You'd think Boll would be just as defiant about his new distinction, but apparently, he's taking it in stride. He tells Fangoria that he won't be in Los Angeles on Saturday to pick up the trophy because he's busy filming in South Africa. »

Week in Review - The Best and the Worst, and Loads of 'Watchmen'

9 January 2009 4:02 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

The first full week of the year got things back on the front burner - we had tons of news this week. Now, Watchmen alone counted four about 10% of it; there were multiple updates at least three days this week about that flick. But we're also christening a new year and saying goodbye to an old one, so some of those headlines made our week in review as well.

Don't forget: The Golden Globes are Sunday night. I'm so glad the Hfpa has put all the Pia Zadora ugliness behind them.
