Everwood Turns 15: The Creator, Stars Recall Braving Freezing Temps to Deliver the Pilot's Emotional Fight

16 September 2017 10:00 AM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

It’s been a decade and a half since Everwood‘s premiere — today marks the show’s 15th anniversary — but the pilot’s pivotal father-son argument is still as raw and powerful as ever. And it still stands out for creator Greg Berlanti and stars Treat Williams and Gregory Smith for being as frosty off-screen as the characters’ relationship was on-screen.

During the filming of Andy and Ephram’s emotional screaming match, in which the latter exclaims that he wishes his father had died instead of his mother, “it was probably negative 30 degrees,” Berlanti says. Williams remembers it as a “very, »

The Punisher: the legacy of Marvel's first superhero film

Mike Cecchini Aug 24, 2017

The Punisher, starring Dolph Lundgren, was the first Marvel superhero movie. It's not as bad as you've heard...

1989's The Punisher is Marvel's first superhero movie.

When you see it written out this way, it is really weird, isn't it? But it's true. The Punisher, the 1989 movie starring Dolph Lundgren as Marvel's premiere vigilante, really is the first Marvel superhero movie. While other Marvel superheroes (most notably Hulk and Spider-Man) had shown up in TV movies and series, they weren't big screen concerns. The 1944 Captain America movie serial doesn't count, because it's a serial not a feature film.  The 1986 Howard the Duck movie is technically the first Marvel film, but he isn't a superhero. None of 'em tick all the appropriate boxes. The Punisher, for better or worse, does.

The Punisher was written by Boaz Yakin (who eventually went on to direct Remember The Titans and co-write »

2 August 2017 4:26 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

It was entirely appropriate that several participants got choked up during the “Everwood” reunion panel Wednesday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, Calif. “Everwood,” which ran for four seasons on the WB and is newly available in full on CW Seed, always delivered more than its share of finely wrought emotional moments and tear-jerking family scenes.

Talking of how much she missed her real father when she moved to Park City, Utah, to shoot “Everwood,” which debuted in 2002, Vivien Cardone recalled co-star Treat Williams telling her, “My family is not with me either, so if you’ll be my temporary daughter, I’ll be your temporary dad.”

Williams and Cardone, both tearful, hugged each other. And though there were many jokes and laughs scattered through the session, Tom Amandes, who played Dr. Harold Abbott, noted that the emotional bonds on set were solid from the start, and »
