…Looking ahead to this December’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi now, and the new Japanese poster for the movie has given us one more reason to be excited. According to the poster’s tag line, the second part of the new trilogy will feature “the most shocking truth in Star Wars history”. Check it out here…

World War Is About to Erupt in New Black Panther Synopsis

19 May 2017 4:20 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Marvel, as with most of their movie projects, is keeping pretty tight-lipped on the details about Black Panther, which comes out on February 16, 2018. But as the movie approaches, some new details will slowly but surely make their way to the surface. Such is the case today, as a brand new plot synopsis for Creed director Ryan Coogler's upcoming entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has made its way online. And it is surprisingly revealing, all things considered.

The new synopsis for Black Panther, which comes courtesy of the magazine Licensing Global, reveals quite a bit about the movie in terms of story. At least a whole lot more than the first synopsis that was released by Marvel Studios a while back did. Here's the new synopsis for Black Panther.

"After the events of Marvel's Captain America: Civil War, King T'Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African »

Rumour: Ian McDiarmid to voice Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars Rebels

14 May 2017 11:05 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The Disney Xd animated series Star Wars Rebels has featured a number of big name cameos from veterans of the galaxy far, far away, including the likes of James Earl Jones (Darth Vader), Anthony Daniels (C-3Po), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Frank Oz (Yoda), Forest Whitaker (Saw Gerrera) and Genevieve O’Reilly (Mon Mothma), and it seems we may soon be able to add another to that list.

According to a report from Star Wars News Net, the previously announced Warwick Davis will not be the only familiar name to guest star in the fourth and final season, as apparently Ian McDiarmid has also taken part in a voice recording session, which was directed by the same person as Davis’ (who the site believes to be Rebels creator Dave Filoni).

While an Ian McDiarmid return as Emperor Palpatine would certainly be welcome, the Sith Lord has already featured in Rebels, »

Kylo Soars in Popularity on Baby Names List Following Force Awakens

12 May 2017 5:15 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

When it comes to cinematic families, it's hard to argue that there is a worse movie son than Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While this nefarious villain, who slaughtered a number of young Jedi students, and even his own father, isn't exactly a great role model for kids, it seems that U.S. parents have taken quite a liking to the name Kylo. The U.S. Social Security Administration revealed in their annual report today that the name Kylo rose in popularity more than any other boys name in the year 2016.

Associated Press reports that the Social Security Administration has released their annual list with the 1,000 most popular names for both boys and girls. While Kylo is not the most popular name on the list by far, arriving in 901st place, Kylo represented the largest surge in popularity of any other boys name this »

The 33 Highest-Grossing Movies Directed By Black Filmmakers

12 May 2017 9:35 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

When a film earns over $100 million domestic, it’s noteworthy but hardly unusual; 30 films claimed that distinction in 2016 alone. When a film directed by an African-American joins that group, however, it’s a different story.

In all of film history, considered by adjusted gross, only 33 titles from black directors have earned over $100 million domestic — a fact that highlights the endemic lack of opportunity. (A 2015 DGA study put all minority male directors at 11.2 percent of studio releases. Minority female directors comprise 1.3 percent; none are on this list.)

Several names show repeatedly: There’s John Singleton with four, F. Gary Gray, Keenen Ivory Wayans, and Antoine Fuqua with three, and Spike Lee and Forest Whitaker with two. And the name that shows up most of all is Denzel Washington; he stars in five of the films. »

Feature-Length Tupac Shakur Biopic In The Works From Steve McQueen

10 May 2017 8:17 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

All Eyez on Me? Deadline is reporting that an authorized, feature-length Tupac Shakur biopic is in the works from the Oscar-winning Steve McQueen.

The director, best known for his acclaimed work across 12 Years a Slave, Hunger, and Shame, is set to work closely with the late rapper’s family in order to craft an authentic portrait of Shakur’s life and legacy. Though it’s yet to nail down an official title, McQueen’s Tupac Shakur biopic will foster a collaboration between Amaru Entertainment, a banner created by his mother Afeni Shakur, and White Horse Pictures. Jayson Jackson (What Happened, Miss Simone?) is on board to produce, while Gloria Cox, Shakur’s aunt, will executive produce.

Striking up a partnership with the surviving family of Tupac Shakur will no doubt lend Steve McQueen and Co. unprecedented access to the archives of an icon who many believe to be one of »

The Most Disappointing: Saw Gerrera in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

22 April 2017 6:40 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Anghus Houvouras on Rogue One’s Saw Gerrera…

Disappointments are the product of anticipation. The more excited you are about something, the more likely it won’t live up to your expectations. Soaring heights soon turn to flaming fuselage. No one is going to be disappointed by The Fate of the Furious because not even fans of the franchise have high expectations. You may want to see the eighth Fast & Furious film, but I’m guessing there’s very little in the movie that wouldn’t deliver exactly what you were expecting. This is why franchises like Fast & Furious and Transformers never generate a lot of passion or anger. Sure, you might have been upset after seeing the original or Revenge of the Fallen, but after that you knew you were never going to get a remarkable Transformers movie with Michael Bay and his creative team at the helm.

Headed up by director Ryan Coogler (Creed, Fruitvale Station), Black Panther is packed to the rafters with A-list talent, and while we bide our time in anticipation of the film’s first trailer – word is that it’ll drop sometime this summer, likely in and around the same time as Spider-Man: Homecoming – Entertainment Weekly has posted a recap of the first footage shown to press.
