It’s been a staggering twenty-nine years since legendary “Charade” and “Singin’ in the Rain” director Stanley Donen last had a film on the big screen—the 1999 Laura Linney and Steven Weber-starring TV movie “Love Letters” is last his directorial credit—but at age 89 he’s considering getting back behind the camera and into the director’s chair. Showbiz 411 reports Donen has co-written a comedy with his significant other and the great director behind “Ishtar” and “The Heartbreak Kid," Elaine May, that will be produced by fellow icon Mike Nichols, no less. What’s it about? “The making of a movie and everything that goes wrong” said a source to the site. A private reading was held a few weeks ago that included Christopher Walken, Charles Grodin and Ron Rifkin. Count us in. The news that NBC is planning a remake/reboot of "Murder, She Wrote" starring Oscar winner Octavia Spencer unleashed waves of snark online Thursday (Oct. 24). It's the latest example of TV networks and studios turning to old properties in the hopes that a new audience will take to them.

Leaving aside the question of whether such reboots actually work -- recent history shows a lot more misses than hits -- the "Murder, She Wrote" news got us thinking: If we were profit-hungry TV executives, what other shows might be ripe for a 21st-century update? "Diagnosis Murder" (ABC): As with the CBS original, a renowned physician moonlights as a police consultant and often ends up working with his detective son. Dick Van Dyke and his real-life son Barry starred the first time around; the reboot would reunite on-screen father and »

TNT has greenlit "Murder in the First," a drama from Steven Bochco ("NYPD Blue") that will follow a single case over the course of a season.

The show, which stars Taye Diggs, Kathleen Robertson and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy in the "Harry Potter" movies), is scheduled to premiere in 2014. The season will run for 10 episodes.

Season-long mysteries have become something of a trend on cable in the past few years, but they're old territory for Bochco. He co-created "Murder One," which followed a high-profile murder trial for a full season, for ABC in 1995. (It did well enough to earn a second season, but audiences didn't pick up the next case and it was canceled.)

"Murder One" was primarily a courtroom drama centered on the defense team, but "Murder in the First" will focus on a pair of homicide detectives played by Diggs ("Private Practice") and Robertson ("Boss"). Felton plays a »

HBO have released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Clear History, a film starring and co-written by Larry David and directed by Greg Mottola (Superbad). In it, the usually balding and clean-shaven creator of Curb Your Enthusiasm is given a full head of flowing locks and a giant beard, driving an open-topped sports car and singing along to some classic rock.

Entertainment Weekly revealed that the film will also star Jon Hamm, Bill Hader, Kate Hudson, Eva Mendes, Danny McBride, and Michael Keaton, and will stick to Larry David’s signature style of improvised dialogue over a structured story. Most excitingly of all, J.B. Smoove will also be joining the cast – his chemistry on Curb Your Enthusiasm was electric, and he can always be depended-upon to make a good scene great.

But what’s the story? Well, Larry David plays Nathan, a hipster marketing executive who sells his shares in »
