Single-Camera Comedy Mayhem: ABC, NBC & Fox To Clash In Tuesday 9-10 Hour In Fall

15 May 2012 8:51 AM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Damon Wayans Jr is heading to the Tuesday 9 Pm slot after all. The actor starred in the pilot for Fox’s New Girl but had to pull out because his series in first position, ABC’s Happy Endings, was surprisingly renewed for a second season last May. Now he will face New Girl as ABC is slotting Happy Endings in the Thursday 9 Pm slot this fall. ABC opening a 9-10 Pm comedy block on Tuesday is surprising given the fact that the network last May said it would expand its new Last Man Standing-anchored Tuesday 8-9 Pm comedy block to 10 Pm in January with the younger-skewing Cougar Town and Don’t Trust The B—- in the 9 Pm hour. But the network abandoned the idea, with ABC topper Paul Lee citing the strength of New Girl for the decision. Now the network is pitting Happy Endings and Don’t Trust »

'Happy Endings' Renewed

11 May 2012 12:45 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

ABC has renewed "Happy Endings." The cult favorite comedy will return for a third season, consisting of 22 episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The series debuted strong on ABC to more than 7 million in April 2011, but quickly lost steam. After moving behind "Modern Family" during Season 2, "Happy Endings" found ratings success and built its audience. However, the Season 2 finale had 3.7 million viewers, but it aired without a "Modern Family" lead in.

"Happy Endings" stars Elisha Cuthbert as Alex, Eliza Coupe as Jane, Zachary Knighton as Dave, Adam Pally as Max, Damon Wayans, Jr. as Brad and Casey Wilson as Penny.

"Wife Swap" and "America's Funniest Home Videos" have also received orders for new seasons. ABC also recently renewed "Once Upon a Time," "The Middle," "Grey's Anatomy," "Suburgatory," "Castle," "Modern Family," "Dancing with the Stars," "Shark Tank" and "The Bachelor."

Interview: 'New Girl' creator Liz Meriwether post-mortems season 1

8 May 2012 6:30 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

"New Girl" wrapped up its first season tonight with an episode about the gang trying to talk Nick out of moving in with his ex-girlfriend. (I reviewed it here.) It was, on the whole, a strong first season for the comedy, particularly starting around the point where Dermot Mulroney showed up. I interviewed the show's creator, Liz Meriwether, about the learning curve that any first-year show goes through, what she learned about each of her characters, how she adjusted to losing Damon Wayans Jr's Coach after the pilot, and more. That's all coming up just as soon as I declare squatter's »

Morning Meme: Jimmy Kimmel Roasts Washington, Benedict Cumberbatch Bashes "Downton Abbey," and Zach Wahls Talks Equality With Piers Morgan

30 April 2012 5:43 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Benedict Cumberbatch is not a fan of season two of Downtown Abbey. He recounts Rebecca Eaton flashing him her Golden Globe for the series, and replying "Begone, woman. Bring it back when it says Sherlock or [Sherlock creator] Steven Moffat or myself — someone else who’s more deserving than the second [season] of Downton Abbey."

At the box office Five Year Engagement wasn't engaging audiences, coming in at fifth place. Think Like a Man held on to first, with future ex-husband Russell Tovey starring Pirates! Band of Misfits falling in second, and The Lucky One taking third.

Not that you can discount The Hunger Games, which has now topped $600 million worldwide. That could feed a lot of people.

Meanwhile, The Avengers, yet to open stateside, in China or Russia, took in $178 million in overseas markets, shattering records in the UK and Mexico, and showing strongly in Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Hong Kong, »

Damon Wayans’ Mysterious Absence From ‘In Living Color’s TV Land Awards Tribute

29 April 2012 9:51 AM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Tonight, TV Land is airing the 10th Anniversary TV Land Awards where Fox’s In Living Color is recognized with the Groundbreaking Award. But you wouldn’t know from it that Damon Wayans was a part of the iconic sketch comedy series. There were two members of In Living Color‘s core cast who were no-shows at the TV Land Awards ceremony, which took place on April 14 in New York: Jamie Foxx and Damon Wayans. Foxx couldn’t attend because he has been in New Orleans filming Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, in which he plays the title role. The absence of Wayans, who told organizers he was unavailable, was more puzzling. Wayans, who is credited as co-creator of In Living Color with his brother Keenen Ivory Wayans, was a key In Living Color writer-performer, who played some of the show’s most memorable characters. Tonight on New Girl: Dermot Mulroney Guest Stars (Photos and Sneak Peeks)

Tonight on New Girl: Dermot Mulroney Guest Stars (Photos and Sneak Peeks)

Jess finds herself having both a conflict and a connection with the father of one of her students on tonight's New Girl. Dermot Mulroney is guest starring as Russell; a wealthy and handsome father who disagrees with some of Jess' (Zooey Deschanel) more creative teaching methods. There are other conflicts taking place tonight between Winston (Lamorne Morris) and Schmidt (Max Greenfield) as they become ultra competitive over bar trivia. Nick (Jake Johnson) meanwhile continues to have financial issues.

Jess has had a couple of love interests since her break-up in the pilot episode; including an attempted one-night stand with guest star Ryan Kwanten and a brief relationship with her co-worker Paul (Justin Long), who we will be seeing again before the end of this season. Dermot Mulroney will be playing a different kind of guy to the »

Sean Campbell: Community - Season 3, Ep. 11: "Urban Matrimony and the Sandwich Arts"

16 March 2012 12:18 PM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

It seems like an eternity since we last walked in the halls of Greendale Community College. Yes, Community is back (at the expense of Parks and Recreation being on the air (but that's another post)!

It had been so long since we saw the study table that I think I wanted to like this episode more than I actually did. I'm not saying that it was a bad episode -- just an uneven one.

It's about time that we got a Shirley-centric episode. Yvette Nicole Brown, aside from her ping-pong rivalry with Jeff, has been pretty quiet this season. The show returned to the reason Shirley came to Greendale in the first place - to start a cupcake business because her husband left her. But those two things conflict this week as she tried to start an on-campus sandwich shop with Pierce at Britta's urging and is about to remarry her husband, »

TV Review: Community 3.11, ‘Urban Matrimony and the Sandwich Arts’

16 March 2012 9:17 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Community makes a triumphant return with a concept-less, Chang-less and relatively normal episode. Shirley is getting re-married to Andre whilst beginning a business venture with entrepreneur Pierce, Jeff is worried he won’t be able to say anything at the wedding without being sarcastic, Britta finds it hard to deny her true calling whilst Troy & Abed try to ‘purge the weirdness’ from their systems for the wedding. Not to mention a cameo from Annie’s Boobs (the monkey).

The first half of season three dived in an out of concept episodes with a few puzzling episodes in between (Jeff and the Dean singing karaoke), so it was refreshing to see one of the strongest episodes of this season so far being carried purely by our beloved characters, and was very much reminiscent of the first season. It’s astounding how much the writers have squeezed into 22 minutes, »

The "Happy Endings" Cast Answers AfterElton's Burning Questions!

14 March 2012 10:11 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Happy Endings is one of the kookiest sleeper hit sitcoms in recent years. The Chicago-set series is both wacky and unpretentious, and that combination helps the friendships between its six ensemble characters (played by Casey Wilson, Eliza Coupe, Elisha Cuthbert, Damon Wayans Jr., Zachary Knighton, and Adam Pally) seem real. It's hard not to dig everyone involved.

I got to catch up with five of the six thespians this week -- only Adam Pally wasn't there -- and I asked about the show's greatest assets: its fun characters, its frantic pace, and its daring weirdness.

One of my favorite things about Happy Endings is that the show never tries to establish each of you as a separate type. No one is "the quirky one." You all get to be insane and similar, but with sly differences, like real friends. That said: What do you think distinguishes your character?

'Community': Andre proposes to Shirley in grand fashion

8 March 2012 9:12 AM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

We love Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) on "Community." So does her former husband and baby daddy Andre (Malcolm-Jamal Warner). In this clip from the return of the show, we get to see his cafeteria proposal to the love of his life.

This is no ordinary proposal, mind you. Of course it isn't. Nothing is ordinary at Greendale Community College! Andre not only dances with a group of backup performers, he makes a speech so adorable it had us grinning.

"I've loved you since there was a Soviet Union and there was only one Damon Wayans." Really, how could you get more romantic than that? Check out a sneak peek from the episode below and let us know what you think. "Community" returns with all new episodes on March 15th.

Damon Wayans Jr. Tells Jimmy Kimmel About Growing Up In A Famous Family

8 February 2012 3:47 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Damon Wayans Jr. -- son of comedic legend Damon Wayans and scion of the extended Wayans clan -- explained on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" (Weeknights, 12 a.m. Est on ABC) how the children of famous parents get to spend a lot of time with other famous people too.

For instance, his dad used to do stand-up with his "Earth Girls Are Easy" co-star -- and future megastar -- Jim Carrey, so Carrey spent a lot of time at the house.

Being the zany comedian he is, Carrey found numerous hilarious ways to surprise the Wayans when they returned home.

"One time we pulled up to the house to park and Jim Carrey falls out of the tree onto our windshield ... no shirt on, and just slides down."

Less nerve-wracking perhaps was their next-door neighbor, NBA supremo Michael Jordan, who also used to drop by.

Our Exclusive Black History Month Comedy Roundtable

Red Foxx, Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby, Wanda Sykes, Dave Chappelle... say any of their names to a serious fan of comedy and you're likely to elicit a reverential sigh of importance, followed by a word-for-word recitation of one of their most famous bits.

Black performers have played a pivotal role not just in entertainment, but in changing the way blacks and whites in America lived, worked and related to each other. And comedians especially, with their penchant for crossing lines and speaking uncomfortable truths, have been some of the most influential artists of the last century.

In honor of Black History Month, we wanted to take a look at the influence of black comedians through the eyes of the artists who are following in their footsteps.

So we brought six up-and-coming young comics together for a unique roundtable discussion about comedy, race and the most influential performers of the past and present. »

'Happy Endings': Brad Reverts To 'Blackass' College Persona

19 January 2012 2:38 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

After Jane advised Penny to change a man to suit her rather than look for one already perfect, using how much she's changed Brad as an example, Brad decided to rebel against her on "Happy Endings" (Wed., 9:30 p.m. Est on ABC). In doing so, he gave viewers a glimpse into the crazy man he used to be, and immediately showed how much fun a flashback episode to those days would be.

Apparently, back in college Brad was none too pleased that there wasn't an African-American version of "Jackass," so he created his own. And since "New Brad" had been replaced by "Old Brad" today, he gathered up some of his old college cohorts for a classic "Blackass" stunt in his apartment. The SnackPack Mousetrap Front Flip consists of jumping off of a trampoline and landing on a small target of pudding SnackPacks surrounded by a massive ring of mousetraps. »
