Ever wonder what stars do when they're not working? They're seeing each other's plays and visiting backstage. The other night at the Eugene O'Neill, after Jane Fonda finished "33 Variations," Bernadette Peters was enraptured with Fonda's dog, Tulea, and was reminding everyone about her Broadway Barks event July 11 in Shubert Alley. Sam Waterston, on hiatus from "Law & Order," said he's writing a screenplay about financier Andrew Mellon. Presidential historian Barry Landau suggested Waterston perform his famous Lincoln soliloquy at the Barack Obama White House. Tim Robbins

It made it. After spending yet another season's end on the bubble, Law & Order is being welcomed back to NBC for a 16-episode 20th season, where it will tie Gunsmoke as the longest-running prime-time drama on TV. NBC hasn't officially announced the pickup, but sources are telling such things to Variety and other outlets. Law & Order, the daddy of the modern-day procedural and the mother ship of creator Dick Wolf's L&O fleet, will most likely show up on the network's midseason schedule, as it did this year. The detect-and-prosecute series, which still boasts a couple of thesps—Sam Waterston and S. Epatha Merkerson—from the 1990s, is more famous for its...

It was a dark, rainy afternoon in New York City. On speakerphone with the other executives in Los Angeles, a group of business-clads are studying charts. The New Yorkers are pouring coffee, preparing for a long night of decisions. The La exec's are doing the same and gesture wildly at a flat screen television that's on in the background of our scene. On the screen is a familiar face. It's Jack McCoy. But as we recognize him, we're back in New York. Arms still waving wildly around the table. Meanwhile in La: "We have to pick one!" One says pounding a fist on the table. "How can we decide?" The New York exec's respond, looking for the caffeine rush and taking long swings from their coffee mugs that have a familiar Peacock logo on the side.
Suddenly in La the arms have stopped waving and they are brought down to a low whisper.

Slumdog Millionaire continued its winning streak this awards season, with Simon Beaufoy winning the 2009 Writers Guild of America award this evening for adapted screenplay. Dustin Lance Black won the award for best original screenplay for Milk. Slumdog has already won DGA, SAG, PGA and Golden Globe awards, and is a multi-award favorite for the Oscars. Milk has won SAG and PGA awards and is also a strong Oscar contender in multiple categories.
On the television side, awards went to the writers of Mad Men (drama), 30 Rock (comedy), Recount and John Adams in long-form categories, and In Treatment, Breaking Bad, and The Simpsons in various other fields. Controversially, among other awards was one for videogame writing (to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed). Some publishers declined to submit their titles for consideration, viewing the award as primarily an organizing tool for a guild seeking to gain a foothold in a non-unionized sector.

Here's a great idea for a spoof from this weekend's Saturday Night Live, hosted by Nph. Based on the glorious critical success of Frost/Nixon, the producers put together a series of films based on the premise that David Frost would blow the lid off the secrets of other celebrities from the 1970s.
Like a lot of things on Saturday Night Live, though, the premise is better than the payoff. Man, they sure do try to give Kenan Thompson something to do, don't they? But it does feature one of Fred Armisen's best impressions, although nothing can top his Sam Waterston.
Anyway, here it is - Frost/Other People:
